I fucking love vigilante as autistic representation
I've been watching peacemaker lately and just finished season 2 and I can not express enough how much I love the way Vig's character is handled here. He's not just unusually complex and nuanced for a character of his archetype, but he genuinely feels like some of the most empowered and positive autistic/spectrum representation in media I've seen in a while, maybe second only to Asakusa Midori in Eizouken.
I think the thing about James Gunn is that he understands that people are deeply complex and strange creatures with idiosyncratic ideals and principles. He knows how to heighten that oddity, and juxtapose it with a setting that has very real moral dynamics. Then he roots that oddity in deeply human qualities of the character possessing it, so that the things that make them weird are actually very human and believable, and as a result their oddity feels highly realistic.
On first blush, Vigilante seems like a wanton murderous psycho archetype with a goofy demeanor, but when you break him down, you realize this guy isn't like, eagerly killing for sport? Like, he enjoys killing to the extent that he's pursuing his moral goals, his extreme morals does see him dehumanizing his targets, but it's not necessarily the killing that motivates him at all, or even the point. He just fucking hates bad guys so intensely, in a very ill-informed way on what makes someone "bad" or on what punishment fits the crime.
Beyond that, it's implicit that he grew up in a very permissive home environment where his parents didn't challenge him and thus he never had friction growing up that led him to learn important life lessons about ethics.
We see that with how little his mother pushes against his berating of her, and we hear about how his father abandoned the family. We also hear about how his brother was hard on him and how he's just looking for an older brother figure to believe in. I think it's fair to assume he's had no real role models to teach him a more nuanced right-from-wrong, and as a result his development was stunted in his adolescent youth.
I also don't think he's a sociopath or a psychopath as defined, because his behavior is not anti-social at all. In fact, it more closely resembles the autism spectrum, particularly in his difficulty reading social cues, rote memorization of how to handle certain social interactions, and his fixation on specific key interests.
Unlike a sociopath or psychopath he's actually deeply social, even overbearingly so, and constantly seeks involvement with and validation from peacemaker and his friends. He wants to share his interests with others and constantly shoehorns himself into conversations to share those interests. He's a very poor conversationalist in the way a young teenager or older child might be, but he expresses a very sincere desire to be involved and to belong with a group, which is a quality you don't typically expect from sociopaths who tend to use socializing as a means to their own ends. Adrian wants friends.
As a result of all these factors, Adrian is living the life of a 13 year old's power fantasy with all the moral nuance of a 13 year old who REALLY likes like, deadpool comics. But it isn't just like, a weird sociopathic guy who acts like a more childish deadpool, it's a guy who you can believe was led to become this way. You can understand where he's coming from.
the more strange part of his character is how fucking effective he is as a combatant, and there's a lot of comedy in not showing how the hell he trained to be arguably a better killing machine than bloodsport or peacemaker. The fact that THAT is the part of his character that's outrageous (in this universe) has an element of comedy.
Coupled with the signs of autism spectrum disorder and how he's explicitly shown to be a gamer in season 2, it's not farfetched to imagine that he learned a lot of his skewed morals from video games. There's a genuine chance that his motivation for becoming vigilante was like, playing Assassin's Creed and thinking Ezio was so cool he HAD to be like him. I think that's maybe the funniest thing ever, and I'm really glad Gunn left this part of his background open-ended.
Vigilante is straight up such an incredible character study, I can't believe how much I fucking love Gunn's Vigilante
is anyone on here like sincerely analyzing the characters in peacemaker bc I'm about to

I'm only just now making a tumblr, but over the summer I made the Gnarliest Garb for TF2 and I was told by some folk it kinda blew up here.
if anyone is curious this is what the highpoly looked like!

this is one of my favorite things I've worked on, so I'm really glad people enjoyed it
I’ve decided to use my powers as an artist for good, by which I mean when I’m going to start drawing fan art of tf2 workshop cosmetic items that I would like to see in the game in the hopes that some of the people who see said art and like it go vote for it. What a run on sentence that was. Anyways This cosmetic item set is called The Loch Ness Master and King of Beggars. I think its a really well made set of cosmetics and imo Demoman doesn’t have that many cosmetics that aren’t, like, hat hats in comparison to the rest of the cast. If you would like to check out what the set actually looks like you can take a look at the link below :)

We need an adult conversation about transit.
So, I’ve been pulled over a few times in my life. Not many, but a few. And I’ve also been in a couple of cars that got pulled over. And let me tell you, if you were actually doing something wrong, the officer doesn’t make any small talk, just straight into “I clocked you doing 70 in a 55.” The only time I’ve ever gotten the “do you know why I pulled you over?” was the time when I wasn’t doing anything wrong, and I got let go even though he insisted to the end that I was doing 87 in a 70 (white privilege at work).
“Do you know why I pulled you over?” is a trap. It means there’s a good chance the officer doesn’t actually have a good reason to ticket you, and is trying to get you to waive your 5th Amendment rights and incriminate yourself. If you make a guess, that’s a confession of guilt.
But there’s another trap, that I’ve heard of but haven’t yet experienced. It’s “do you know how fast you were going?” With that one, they’re hoping you’ll say no, because then they can name whatever speed they want – you just said you didn’t know how fast you were going, if you deny the speed they name then you’re lying to them.
Oh, I’ve had that one. Go with “yes.” Don’t give them a number, just say “Yes.” Then they still have to offer a number and you can deny it without contradicting yourself. They could just ask you, at that point, but that’s suspiciously similar to saying they don’t know, and they tend to avoid doing that.

if you scroll past this just because it doesn’t affect you personally, i see you.
Also, you can always go to court and contest a ticket, and a lot of times you’ll win. Or if the cop thinks you’ll win they won’t even show up and you’ll win by default.
They like to target out of state plates because anyone who would be majorly inconvenienced by a court date two months away is a lot more likely to just pay it.
The $100-200 it usually costs to hire a ticket attorney is well worth it.
I just want them to get along TT o TT
It's so fucking unfair that Daniel Radcliffe, Elijah Wood, and Robert Pattinson have never been in a movie together where they all play the part of dirty little gremlin man that must go on a grand quest of some kind in which they spent the entire film arguing, lighting each other on fire, inexplicably dressing in drag to sneak into locations that welcome both men and women, and singing old sea shanties.
this fucking tag...you're so right.
Frye is the new Marina: Exploring Frye and Minority Anxiety (An essay by @Terminatorbuns)
I’m gonna preface this with something very important: Frye is best girl. Fight me, I write lore essays. I wrote that other essay on Deep Cut and I’ve continued to obsess over them since, especially on Frye, who’s been an extremely interesting character for me to analyze.
We know Frye, she’s the chipper Inkling idol partner to the more sophisticated Octoling Shiver. There’s obvious parallels to be made with the previous idol group, Off the Hook, since Frye is like the energetic Pearl and Shiver is like the cool Marina. And uhh .. that’s probably all there is to it, essay’s over, everyone go home.
No but seriously, what I want to share instead today is the personal, alternative interpretation I arrived at after obsessively overthinking the situation since release. It’s not fully supported by canon, but this is a reading of Frye constructed from the most subtle lore details a Frye-obsessed lore nerd could find, and I hope to at least highlight some lore elements the community might have missed. I want to demonstrate the layers upon layers of complexity that can be read into Frye as a character, and why I care so fucking much.
Frye isn’t the new Pearl, she was the new MARINA this whole time and it took me months to see it. Yes, it has absolutely everything to do with their skin color. Splatoon’s world is designed with real life racial diversity in mind and, intentionally or not, are also influenced by real life racial dynamics in turn. Like Marina, the analysis of Frye absolutely OPENS UP if we examine her through the lens of her real life racial status, we start to infer stuff about her motivations, her fears, her secret needs and wants, EVERYTHING is on the table. Good news for Shiver fans, I can’t talk about Frye without digging into her relationship with Shiver (platonic or otherwise) so that’s going to happen too. We need to talk about our precious brown baby.
my only criticism is the insinuation that frye isn't hot as hell (ik she's not by normative standards and thats what u meant but i have such a crush on her) !!!
