Saint Sebastian
By Giuseppe Giorgetti, 1671-72
Saint Sebastian was one of the most popular subjects in Renaissance art. He is instantly recognisable as the semi-naked chap with a body full of arrows.
Saint Sebastian, a Roman soldier and Christian convert, is believed to have been martyred (c. 288) during the reign of the emperor Diocletian (r. 284-305). According to legend, he was tied to a post or tree and shot with arrows.
He was left for dead, but was discovered by a Roman widow, named Irene, who removed the arrows and nursed him back to health. Shortly after his recovery, Sebastian went to Diocletian to chide him for his sins and was duly clubbed to death.
(San Sebastiano fuori le Mura, Rome.)
Thou art the only person in the world that ever was necessary to me. Other people have occasionally been more or less agreeable; but I think I was always more at ease alone than in anybody’s company, till I knew thee. And now I am only myself when thou art within my reach.

Requested by @amymel86, who wanted a Jonsa edit of Alphonse Mucha’s work. I’m actually really happy with how this turned out considering I’d been avoiding making a Mucha edit because I didn’t think I could pull it off believably.
Decided to share both color variants because I couldn’t decide on whether I liked the Fall or Winter version better. Would love to hear your thoughts!
