CHARACTER INFORMATION

Daybreak the Biolizard: A salamander hybridized with several species of lizard. He is the ultimate lifeform, his life support perfected and with added anti-black arms combat protocols.

Project Shadow: Once thought to be the perfected version of the ultimate lifeform, Shadow the Hedgehog’s Black Arms DNA reacted violently and transformed him into a rampaging monster. The only thing able to quell his rage is his big sister Maria Robotnik’s presence.

My Fic for the StH 2025 Big Bang is COMPLETE!

It’s about my AU, Bioswap, and focuses on Daybreak’s relationships with Maria and Tails.

If you don’t know about Bioswap, it’s an AU where Shadow and the Biolizard (named Daybreak in the AU) switch roles. Daybreak is a very different person than Shadow is, so it’s a lot of fun writing how he grapples with his trauma in a different way.

Mephiles design for Bioswap!

First form (bottommost drawing) is pretty standard fare for Mephiles- saturated orange turns to bluish gray, everything else gets desaturated, he doesn’t have a visible mouth, and he’s got those uncanny green eyes.

Second form (topmost drawing) his tubing becomes crystalized and he loses his nostrils. However now his mouth can ‘rip’ open, though it always fuses together again when he closes his mouth. The teeth inside are bright purple.

Btw I think it’d be fun if I answered stuff in-character as daybreak on this blog? It’d be tagged ‘#Ask Daybreak’ or smth along those lines and I’d add it to the masterpost.

In character text would be “orange, with quotation marks around it”

Ooc add-ons would be for stuff that Daybreak can’t/wouldn’t answer in-character, or an elaboration on something if he gives a vague response.

Now I aim to keep Bioswap relatively similar to the games in that romance stuff isn’t the focus and I don’t think there’ll be any canon ships.

HOWEVER. Daybreak is such an *interesting* character to explore romance wise.

Now, I’ve already established that this dude has Issues actually establishing his own interests and hobbies and such, because he’s working through life like a Bucket List for Maria (which, while sweet, isn’t really healthy if that’s its only motivation for doing things)

When introduced to the prospect of a romantic relationship for himself, I think he’d mull it over and eventually arrive to the conclusion that “This is a regular thing that people do therefore I must do it because if everyone does it then Maria would have done it, and since she’s gone, I’m kinda obligated to” (and this is before he registers that you don’t *have* to be in a relationship to be happy or to be fulfilled)

I think cause of this he would effectively “fall” for the first person who gives him any sort of attention in that regard, and I think this ends one of two ways:

1. Daybreak finds out people Don’t have to be in relationships it’s not an obligation, realizes it’s not enjoying the relationship, and they go their separate ways (hopefully on good terms)

2. Daybreak ends up genuinely enjoying the relationship. Even when it finds out it never *had* to be in one he’d probably stick by his partner

I think maybe in the outcome of number 1 it could potentially find another partner but would also totally be fine without one- in which case it’d basically line back up with canon

I might lowkey write out some hypothetical dynamics with canon characters if I feel interested enough (disregarding my own personal headcanons for it, because ya boi headcanons like a good quarter of the cast as aroace 😭)

Daybreak’s super form is something I’ve been puzzling over for a while

I want it to be golden like the other super forms, but I wanna add some unique flair

I think it’d be cool to have his tubing turn red or pastel-rainbow. Red would make sense as his eyes would turn that color like all super forms, but the pastel rainbow tubing would be cool as it looks like the energy of the chaos emeralds is literally flowing through him. Especially cause I want his life support’s indicator to shift between all 7 chaos emeralds’ colors.

I’ll post some concepts later and poll probably

I’ve been meaning to do more bioswap content but I got stuff to get done lol

I got fics coming though! One will be tumblr-exclusive until I finish another fic.

Tumblr-exclusive will be about Daybreak’s relationship with other characters and how he relies on them, and the other will be the events of SA2 in Bioswap.

Also a brief afterthought:

The triple S (SSD Now I guess?) is just two hedgehogs and a massive salamander/monitor lizard and that’s super funny to me

In this AU, Shadow’s Black Arms DNA went haywire, causing him to become raging and monstrous. Black Doom didn’t see an issue with this and still expected Gerald to hold his end of the deal in 50 years. Gerald revitalized the prototype Biolizard, painstakingly working to stabilize his life support.

The Biolizard bonded with Gerald and Maria, the latter giving it the name ‘Daybreak’, because when things are their darkest, the day will always inevitably arrive.

Uhmmmmm more Bioswap posting hope yall dont mind…

During the events of SA2, Daybreak does not tell anyone his name till the very end- specifically he tells Sonic before his bossfight. At the beginning, he introduces himself simply as ‘The Biolizard’, and is referred to as such throughout the story. From Heroes on is when everyone refers to him by name, with a few exceptions (Abraham Tower, and it takes Eggman and his minions a while to properly pick up on his name.)

There is ONE notable exception to this, and that’s Starline. Starline NEVER refers to Daybreak as Daybreak, only as ‘The Biolizard’. So, since he does this, Surge and Kit don’t actually know his name till they actually *meet* the guy. They hear about a ‘Daybreak’ from others, but never actually realize that Daybreak is the Biolizard until they meet.

Bonus:

Daybreak and Abe actually did get along on the ARK, since Shadow really scared him and Daybreak was very much Not part alien. He did struggle to see Daybreak as a person, and was making progress on that when the ARK raid happened. He fully fell into his thinking that Daybreak was a weapon and that he killed Maria. In present day, they are on amicable, if not awkward, terms.
