It's a girl's best friend and her worst enemy, makeup. We love to spend excessive amounts of money on it, and more importantly love to spend some extra time delving into the art. However, we forget how much it can harm our skin. Here's some tips about how to salvage your skin, while still enjoying the world of makeup.
CLEAN YOUR BRUSHES! I can't say it enough. Makeup brushes hold all the bacteria from your skin, and using them repeatedly without washing them puts that bacteria right back into your skin. Consider investing in a daily wash. Also, make sure to give your brushes a nice bath, if you don't use a daily wash I would recommend once a week, if you do I would suggest waiting no longer than once every two weeks.
Try going makeup free! Okay, so I don't expect anyone to give up makeup altogether, as there's no fun in that. Instead, consider an everyday look that's lighter than you would do if you were say, going to a nice dinner or out with friends. I love this tip because it saves me so much time and money by using less product. My personal favorite is to throw on a little concealer, powder, brow, and mascara to utilize the essentials. If I have a little extra time, I may spice it up with a quick lip.
If you like a more full coverage consider interpreting the previous tip in a different way. Find ways to get lighter coverage with the products you already use. Instead of throwing on two layers of foundation, try one, or get a foundation that is lighter and allows your face to breathe. Invest in a high quality primer designed to keep the makeup out of your pores. There's so many alternatives these days, you're bound to find something that helps your skin while also still satisfying your coverage needs.
My last tip involves time. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I wear makeup ALL. DAY. It's bad, but sometimes I'm just too busy to take it off. So make sure whenever you know you're done with your face of makeup for the day, take it off! Don't delay because you're too lazy or you're just going to do it later. You want your skin to breathe for as long as possible before you have to put it all back on again.
Don't forget to show yourself, and your skin, some love. Treat it right, after all it is a part of you, and an important one at that. Makeup is all fun and games until it starts to damage your skin.
