There are moments when the only kindness left is to end it. I have lived through cycles where the weight of his choices became unbearable, where the bodies stacked so high that no amount of time could soften what he'd done. Where the only mercy for Barovia was to let it all fall dark and begin again. If you are reading this, and if you find yourself in such a moment, know that garlic is not a weapon that kills. It is a weapon that buys time. Seconds, perhaps. Enough to cross the distance between you and him. Enough to strike true if your hands are steady and your resolve does not falter. But understand what you are choosing. I have done this before. I have made the choice to cook my last meal for him, to weave garlic so carefully through each dish that he would not taste it until it was already working through him. Practice until the garlic becomes invisible, until even you cannot detect it in the finished dish. When the moment comes, there is no room for error. There is no second attempt. Before you do this, you must make sure that everyone who matters is already gone. Send them through the mists, give them gold or stories or lies, whatever it takes to get them beyond the borders before it begins. Because if he survives your attempt and they are still here, he will find them. He will make you watch as he destroys them, slowly, deliberately, until you understand the full cost of turning against him. I know this because I have failed before. I know this because I have had to begin again with their blood still fresh in my memory, and his eyes cold with the knowledge of what I tried to do. So when you choose this path, you must be certain, my dears. My sweetest girls, you must be all in. There is no halfway with a curtain call. Either you both go down together, or you lose everything trying.
