Yo no quería un celular. Ya le había dicho mil veces a mi hija que no. Pude vivir casi setenta años sin celular, para qué voy a querer uno ahora. Acá en Pico estoy como en mi casa, conozco a todo el pueblo y me conocen todos. Me las arreglo. Ocho años en Suecia viví. No hablaba el idioma, nunca... "Abuela, yo te quería decir que, bueno, vos ayer dijiste que no querías hablar con nadie, pero el celular que te regalamos nosotras, si vos no querés, no es para hablar. También se pueden mandar mensajitos de texto. Estaba ahí muy chiquita, muy firme. Yo sentía que me hervía la cara. Fui a la ventana a abrir para que corriera viento. Me despejó un poco. Ella seguía ahí con la cajita. Me senté de nuevo. Y eso cómo es. Levantó la cara contenta. Empezó a abrir la caja rapidísimo. Por momentos se le complicaba pero yo no quería ni tocar. Hizo todo con sus manitos. Al final me muestra el aparato y dice. Vas a mensajes, crear mensaje, ahí escribís lo que querés ponerle a alguien, ponés el número de esa persona y apretás enviar mensaje. Por ejemplo vos a quién le escribirías... Hacía calor, pero entró aire por la ventana, y no sé por qué le dije: A Gloria."

These maps, by reddit user sp07, show the relationships between various European languages by highlighting the similarities and differences between their words for apple, bear, beer, church, cucumber, orange, pineapple, rose, and tea. I’ve posted some of these maps before (and even made a few of my own), but since they’ve been getting some recent attention around the internet, I thought I’d consolidate them.

We found that the overwhelming majority of the equity research reports did not mention copyright infringement as a possible risk factor.

None of the 14 reports for Reed Elsevier and 18 reports for Pearson identified copyright infringement as a risk factor.

Only 13% of the 15 reports for Sony and 22% of the 23 reports for Vivendi mentioned copyright infringement as a potential risk.

Just 8% of the 26 reports for Viacom and 27% of the 26 reports for Disney referred to copyright infringement as a risk factor.

26% of the 19 reports concerning Adobe and 41% of the 27 reports concerning Microsoft identified copyright infringement as a risk factor.

Cumulatively, only 19% (32) of the 168 reports referred to copyright infringement as a possible risk; 81% did not.

Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn, who outlined the conventions of the Internet in a hotel room in 1973, spoke separately about what has become of it and where it is going.

When Edward J. Snowden, the disaffected National Security Agency contract employee, purloined tens of thousands of classified documents from computers around the world, his actions — and their still-reverberating consequences — heightened international pressure to control the network that has increasingly become the world’s stage. At issue is the technical principle that is the basis for the Internet, its “any-to-any” connectivity. That capability has defined the technology ever since Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn sequestered themselves in the conference room of a Palo Alto, Calif., hotel in 1973, with the task of interconnecting computer networks for an elite group of scientists, engineers and military personnel.
