How an Amazing Single Mom Rebounded from a Life-Changing Ordeal to Rediscover Herself and Regain Her Confidence Through Kickboxing and Fitness
Meet Rebekah Miller â an amazing woman and single mom who has overcome huge obstacles in her life to ultimately become an incredible inspiration to her 11 year old son, her family, her friends, and many others. Rebekah has overcome incredible odds and is a wonderful example of perseverance and hope in the face of adversity. This is her story.
In 2011, at age 32, Rebekah suddenly found herself a single parent and a widow when her husband passed away. One short year later, Rebekah had a stroke. She says that this was a very difficult time in her life, âIt is hard to deal with stress after having a stroke. My brain would shut down and I could not respond to anything sometimes. Itâs like someone puts a helmet on your head and you canât think right. For a while I gave up, laid in bed, and would not do anything.â
When Rebekah started her road to fitness and recovery, she started with just walking around the block. At first, she could barely make it around the block. Her balance and coordination had been thrown off because of her stroke. She was determined to keep going though and by 2015 she was able to walk 9 miles.
As her determination to recover and get in shape grew, Rebekah hired a trainer at the gym, tried out Zumba and barre classes, continued with her walking / running regime, and took some other fitness classes as well â but she had a hard time connecting to the instructors and got bored with things easily. In 2015 she joined a transformation contest. She remembered a kickboxing class she had tried out years before, prior to her stroke and her husbandâs death. Rebekah remembered how much she had loved kickboxing back then, and she knew that she would be able to win the contest through taking kickboxing classes.
When Rebekah started kickboxing with iLoveKickboxing-Sandy in August of 2015 her original goal was to lose weight. âI wanted to lose 60 pounds. I was mortified because I was overweight and it was time for me to start dating again.â So far, Rebekah has lost more than 35 pounds and she won Third Place in her transformation contest.
Here are just some of the many ways that Rebekah has changed her life through kickboxing classes:
·        Lost more than 35 pounds
·        Lost fat and gained muscle â she lost 3.5% body fat in just 45 days of Kickboxing (her total is even higher than that)
·        Lost inches and dropped from a size 16 to a size 10
·        Regained confidence â people tell her all the time that she looks great and Rebekah feels great in her own skin again
·        Won 3rd place and a $1,000 in a fitness transformation contest in 2015 and is working towards reaching new goals in a new transformation contest this year
·        Found a great stress reliever â she is more clear-minded and better able to think through things because of kickboxing than at any other time since her stroke
·        Went from barely being able to walk around the block to running 5Kâs with her son â since starting kickboxing Rebekah has completed more than fifteen 5K races
·        Rebekah even tried snowshoeing for the first time last year and was able to go 6 miles thanks to the conditioning she had done in her kickboxing classes
·        Better able to function as a caregiver for her grandmother now that she is in better shape herself
Rebekah said about iLoveKickboxing-Sandy, âIf people just knew what these classes would do for you, and stuck with it â everyone would do this! The more you come back the easier it gets and your body starts to change with it. You have more energy and you look forward to every single class!â
Rebekah has not only transformed her own life and that of her son and grandmother, but she actively works to give back to others. She works closely with the NICU unit at the University of Utah to raise funds and supplies for families with infants under their care. She is a true inspiration to all who know her.
From all of us at iLoveKickboxing-Sandy, congratulations on your many successes and successes yet to come Rebekah!
