i think it would be cute if spamton and the addisons were just a big bunch of extremely incompetent siblings and spamton is the MOST incompetent out of all of them
I had a dream last night that I found Spamton laying partially in a ditch on the side of the road in the rain and I was like screaming and sobbing and hollering like I just found my long lost bastard son dead on the road but it was Spamton and he was literally fine
I made a list of the new details about Kris’s personality and backstory. Feel free to add anything I missed!
- After Kris overhears Toriel talking with Alphys, if you call Toriel, Kris will tell her that they’re “normal,” and then try to hand the phone to Alphys.
- When everyone gets personalized rooms after being captured by the queen, Asriel has a room. Kris opens the door with their eyes closed.
- Kris’s search history: diy bath bomb, sharpest kitchen knife jello, how to use magic, summer vacation college when, video game piano tutorial.
- Noelle, Kris, Asriel, and Dess once explored the forest behind the graveyard.
- After killing Berdly in the Snowgrave route, Kris meets up with Susie and Ralsei. Susie wonders if Kris is “hurt,” suggesting that they look shaken.
- After the Pacifist battle with Spamton NEO, Susie and Ralsei notice that Kris seems unwell. Susie points out that they have “goosebumps,” and that their voice is “strained.” If you choose to have Kris say they’re not okay, Ralsei responds that they’re “yelling.”
- Susie also notices that Kris is smiling after she makes a funny comment.
- To comfort Kris, Ralsei offers to make them cake, which makes Susie note that Kris’s “stomach is rumbling.”
- Ralsei also offers to let Kris share his scarf if they’re cold, but Kris seemingly responds that they’d rather have Susie’s jacket.
- During the Snowgrave battle with Spamton NEO, it is specifically stated that “Kris” calls for help, in contrast to “you” calling for Noelle.
- At the library, when Kris picks up a book with “unfamiliar humans” inside, they shut it quickly.
- At the police station, Kris skims a news article about Undyne taking over as police chief. When it mentions Asgore being removed from the force, Kris stops reading.
- If you try to play the piano at the hospital, Susie is surprised that Kris can play. When you fail to play, Susie laughs, saying she “almost thought they were serious for a sec.” She then remarks that Kris has a “pissed off look.”
- When Kris and Noelle would ride on Ferris wheels as kids, Kris would shake the seat when they got to the top.
- When Snowdrake and Monster Kid are at the bunker, Monster Kid is afraid about something, making Snowdrake comment that “only kids believe that stuff.” Monster Kid starts to say something about Kris, but is cut off, implying that Kris has a connection to the bunker.
- There is a puzzle where you have to stand on a switch to let Noelle pass through an electric barrier. If you “prank” her by stepping off the switch, Noelle will flinch, and tell you that “isn’t very nice.” She then pulls the same prank when Kris has to pass, but wonders why they “look so hurt.”
- The “own-flavored tea” seems to heal based on relationship strength. Susie Tea gives Kris 120 HP, Ralsei Tea gives Kris 60 HP, and Noelle Tea gives Kris 70 HP, if friendly dialogue options are chosen for Noelle.
- If you direct Kris to take the five dollars from Asriel’s drawer, they do it “reluctantly.”
The separation between Kris and the player really intrigues me.
In the Spamton NEO “snowgrave” battle, when you choose to call for help, the text says, “Kris called for help.” When you choose to call for Noelle, it says, “You whispered Noelle’s name.”
This implies to me that Kris doesn’t want this. Kris just wants to be saved. You being the one to call for Noelle shows that you were the one manipulating her. You’re the one using Noelle as a weapon.
This is reinforced in the hospital later, when Noelle says that a “terrifying voice” was telling her what to do. She even specifies that it wasn’t Kris’s voice.
Whatever happened in the ending, I don’t think Kris is evil. While they may be withdrawn and mischievous, they chose to save Susie in Chapter 1, without player intervention. Furthermore, their internet searches show that they miss their brother, as well as how their “throat tightens” when they drink the hot chocolate. (It reminds them of getting hot chocolate with Asriel.)
Additionally, I noticed that—when everyone gets personalized rooms after being captured by the queen—Asriel has a room. The text for his door reads, “You opened the door with your eyes closed. You saw nothing.” This again suggests that Kris misses Asriel, to the point where they don’t even want to be reminded of him.
Lastly, if you try to play the piano at the hospital, Susie is surprised that Kris can play. When you fail to play, Susie laughs, saying she “almost thought they were serious for a sec.” She then remarks that Kris has a “pissed off look.” Kris is angry because they can play the piano, as the receptionist mentioned in Chapter 1. The player is the one who can’t play.
This chapter definitely added to Kris’s character for me (and made me feel bad for them).
