These old-timey names got me thinking about Carlton...

Why did that name trigger the fandom so much? Why do so many of us dislike that name?

We probably would've had a similar reaction if, Will, let's say, got an epilogue boyfriend called, uh, checks map... Marston? Trenton? Herbert? Randolph? Bernie? Miller? WILLARD?

It's because the name Carlton isn't prevalent now, nor in the 80s. The reason that name, and the other ones on the map I've listed above, feel so foreign to us, and therefore evoked such a strong reaction, is because they're not names we commonly see in people (be it our peers, or adults that would've been alive in the 80s).

Back to the Futur AU, in which Mike travels back in time using a bicycle as a time machine and tries to stop his younger self from hurting Will's feelings with his incredible cluelessness. But he's always too late...

Genuinely continuously thinking about how tragic it is that Mike is essentially robbed in the finale. While others are all shown to be moving on he is emotionally caged both by the text but also by the visuals of the shot by his past and what he wishes he had.

In both these scenes he is isolated in the frame and blocked off on either side. It feels like he's caged in and in both instances he ends up sadly looking at things that remind him of his connection to his past. His entire ending is focused on him telling the stories of others, but never his own. Never what he wants in the end. Stuck in the past and as a bystander to his own life.

He becomes an echo of his father, and implied that he is doomed to also fall into the same pattern of reliving his past through stories of his youth. Even though his are far more eventful, it is still a sad sign of being trapped in the routine of conformity he always sought to escape while his friends are depicted as moving forward. I'm not saying he is doomed to stay this way forever, he is young, but the fact the Duffer Brothers leave him here in the main story is genuinely so devastating and frustrating.
