hello isat fans!! just uploaded a fic centered on sif's religion and the constellations - AND it has beautiful illustrations done by an amazing artist from the community!!! here's a little taste below the cut, just to getcha hooked ;]

(Well, it makes sense, you guess.) (Everyone else is also processing everything that happened, even if it has been a little while.) (So it’d make sense that you’re also still feeling the effects, right?) (Everything that happened…) (The reality of it often still eludes you.) (Despite living it, breathing it…) (Enduring it. why do ppl call anime girls white. like yes theyre pale but like i think its just white-as-default to see a character without obvious 'racial' features and assume it's white

another big part of this is that oftentimes, East Asian characters in western cartoons are drawn without the animators/designers confronting the legacy of racist caricatures against East Asians in western drawn arts. Like, I can post some that are done on purpose to play up the caricature (looking at things like minoriteams' animated run, among others), but even on works that are supposed to make the characters look neutral/attractive, there is a presistent trend of buckteeth/slanted eyes/jaundice-yellow skin tone. For instance, let's compare the East Asian character and her best friend white character in Fairly Odd Parnets, and also look at the three East Asian characters in Proud Family standing alongside non-East Asian characters.

There is the noticeably smaller eyes, as well as only the East Asian characters having the two incisors while others have a full set of teeth.

When many people grown up in the West, esp the USA, the site of these images' production, have to reckon with the fact that East Asian characters, in fact, are not drawn this way in animation designed and drawn by people from East Asia, they end up defaulting to their idea that these are, in fact, white people. This is because the heuristics for differentiating white and East Asian is often the larger eyes and paler skin, as well as lack of buckteeth. It's as much a product of the legacy of the West's caricature of East Asians than anything else.

i want to double down on darkrai for competitive reasons which is: darkrai has the signature move dark void, which was a spread sleep move with 80% accuracy. which is Really Really good in doubles formats for obvious reasons. however, darkrai has never been legal in official competitive formats, which is where this gets interesting. Basically, because smeargle can effectively learn Every Move, doubles players taught it dark void. it became such a problem that gamefreak actually stepped in and 1. nerfed the move to 50% accuracy, which immediately made it totally dogshit and 2. stopped allowing smeargle to learn it entirely. So. darkrai was punished outright for the actions of a completely separate pokemon

I'd like to add:

Zorua lines For Zorua the dex entries really hammer in how they are constantly disguising themselves and hiding away from others using an illusion. And, entries like: "This Pokémon has a cowardly disposition, so when it's not around friends, it basically always stays transformed as something else." They're only themselves around the people they know will love and accept them. And, the Hisuian entry: "A once-departed soul, returned to life in Hisui. Derives power from resentment, which rises as energy atop its head and takes on the forms of foes. In this way, Zorua vents lingering malice." Note the demonization once it returns to life, the negative framing of its resentment. As for Zorark there is a lot of emphasis on them having strong bonds among themselves and being insular, while protecting their packs. But, most importantly, there is a lot of hearsay and emphasis on them making people see their illusions and trapping people within them. (I don't think I need to explain this one?) And, note the inversion of the perception on how the illusion is used now that it isn't constantly hiding itself. But, I think a really important one is Hisuian Zoroark's entry: "With its disheveled white fur, it looks like an embodiment of death. Heedless of its own safety, Zoroark attacks its nemeses with a bitter energy so intense, it lacerates Zoroark's own body." It's lashing out at its enemy, its described as a scary and terrifying monster when it does this, and it harms itself when it lashes out. (Daring to defend itself.)

Gilbert Baker added a 9th stripe shortly before his death, with the new stripe representing diversity. He added this stripe in reaction to the 2016 US election. It’s unfortunately not as well known as the 8 and 6 striped versions.
