Author’s Note: Requested by anon. I honestly wasn’t sure which gif to use, Scotty or Chekov. I was going to use one of both, but they are harder to find than I thought. I went with Scotty, because this is basically him finding out his daughter is dating his friend and the gif just goes with the theme I have in mind.
A little over three years into the five-year mission. You were 20 years old, joining the USS Enterprise at the young age of 17. Of course you graduated the academy at the top of your class, and of course you went into the engineering department. It was only natural, considering your father was Montgomery Scott. Everyone knew of you, but they never got to officially meet you until the day you graduated and was assigned to the Enterprise. Your father helped you by pulling a few strings and getting you assigned to the same vessel as him. You weren't complaining, since it was the exact ship you wanted to be aboard.
You were very skilled at keeping certain aspects away from your father. He was always breathing down your neck, and you had to have his back with most arguments. Family always stuck together. He taught you that. Which meant that the Enterprise crew was your family as well, every last member. It wasn't surprising that you bonded quickly with Pavel Chekov, he was the closest person to your age. Only by two years, and he loved holding the fact that he was older than you over your head. Heated--yet playful--arguments were shared between the both of you.
The crew thought it was endearing. The friendship you formed over the three years. The mere fact that your father took Pavel under his wing and was showing him the ropes of the engineering department helped your bond grow tremendously. You also got in a few teaching moments, yet everyone but your father seemed to get the idea that you and Pavel were closer than the average friends. You, of course, didn't mind the rumors--because they weren't rumors. You were in love with the boy, but you did everything you could to keep it from your father. He was a bit overprotective, and as much as people liked teasing him about you and Pavel--he always had the same reaction.
Oh boy was your father wrong.
"No, Pavel, this is how it's done." You corrected your boyfriend, who was standing so close to you that he was basically hugging you. You showed him how to fix the sensors, but a part of you felt that the Russian wiz kid was only faking not knowing how to do it in order to get more time with you. It was sweet, and you obliged because you didn't mind the reason at all. You turned to face him, a small smile on your face as your eyes locked with his. Being centimeters away from his soft lips, the moment was tempting--only downfall was that your father could walk in any second.
As if on cue, Scotty walked into the room, prompting you to push Pavel away from you gently, your face burning up as if you had a fever. You tried to diverge the look he was giving, by looking down at the equipment in front of you and explaining the situation. "So, yeah, that is how you fix it." You cleared your throat, seeing out of your peripherals that your father approached. He looked to be in a bad mood. "Hey, dad." You gave him an innocent smile, Pavel stepping away even more to give more distanced between you both. Scotty looked at Pavel, then at you.
"Can you believe the nerve of some people, Y/N? They keep telling me that you and Chekov are dating, just to get under my skin! If they wanted to do it, they could at least pick a topic that is a little bit more believable, aye?" From behind Scotty, Pavel almost choked on air. The moment caught Scotty's attention, he eyed Pavel for a long moment. Your eyes widened, seeing Pavel's ears were a bright red. Fuck. The secret was out. "What? That's crazy.." You tried to get your father's focus on you rather than your boyfriend, but the high pitched tone of your voice only dug your grave deeper.
You weren't the best liar.
Scotty's eyes narrowed at you as you looked away from him, pretending like you were doing something productive. The smile on your father's face started to fade as he blinked a few times, the lightbulb in his head turning on. "Wait a bloody minute!" He called out, in the exact instant, Pavel turned to you and spoke. "Well, I should be going, I believe the captain needs me on the bridge." He lifted a finger before he swiveled on his heels and hightailed it out of the room. "Pavel, don't you dare leave me in here to deal with this by myself!" Before you could stop him, Pavel was gone.
"Y/N, what is the meaning of this?" Scotty placed his hands on his hips, expecting you to explain. You closed your eyes, taking in a deep breath before you finally decided it was pointless to hide it anymore. "You see, dad, me and Pavel.. have been dating for about a year.." You admitted, squinting your eyes, expecting the worst from. "What? And you didn't tell me? Everyone else knows but me? I'm your father, Y/N!" He whined, his mouth agape for dramatic effect. "I just didn't want you to freak out." You sighed, looking down, mildly ashamed.
"I don't care who you date, as long as the wee weasel treats you well. I am going to have a few words with the lad!" He announced, causing you to roll your eyes in a way only a child could do in spite of their parent. "I don't have to know everything, just don't hide something like that from me." He stepped closer to you, placing a loving hand on top of your head, a small smile on his face. You felt your lips tug into a smile as you stared up in admiration of your father. "I will have to put the fear into him, though, for dating my little munchkin."
"Ugh, dad. Stop!" You placed both your hands on your head in annoyance, leaning your head down on the equipment in an attempt to get away from the conversation.
