Mansome: Review (Available on NetFlix)
Mansome is one of the lesser known offerings from Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock. It focusses centrally on the topic of the construction of masculinities and men's gendered identity work in an age where gender boundaries are increasingly becoming blurred. Although not specifically covering the relationship between sport and masculinity, the film makes reference to a number of aesthetic sports including wrestling, bodybuilding and the questionable sport of brearding. Whilst not one of Spurlock's more critically acclaimed works, Mansome provides an interesting context to the discussions that we have been having about docile bodies, self-discipline, power and opression within post-modern society. Definitely worth a watch!
