i feel like im losing my mind but in my head supernatural and gravity falls are like. the same story in two different genres specially with all the parallels between the stan twins and the winchester brothers LIKE WE HAVE:

"book-smart" (but also very quick on his feet and natural survivor) brother who goes away to college and loses contact with his brother over it, marked since birth & always an outcast, feelings of loneliness and not being understood lead to involvement with a demon who manipulates him. AND is the one who made the gate that The Devil would use to cross onto their realm (in ford's case these are both bill, for sam it's ruby and well. lucifer. OH!! also the possession). in the latter stages of life, he's the most knowledgeable on the creatures they hunt & generally does the research.

"street-smart" (but very observant and persistent, determined & cunning) sibling who stays behind and falls into a life of crime by necessity, which makes him in turn very resourceful, can seem aloof but it seems almost like a facade... he can be incredibly funny and good at reading the room & charming people, and he's also definitely the most family-oriented of the two, almost to the point of selflessness; precisely why he doesn't take well to losing his brother and goes to extreme measures to get him back (dean made a deal w a crossroads demon and stanley spent 30 years decoding and fixing the portal while pretending to be ford)

the main difference is that stan and ford never got a chance to reconnect before ford got sucked into the portal, but dean and sam spent almost a year looking for john and then months more together before sam died... and so the rekindled bond between them is the driving force of the narrative because it's what pushes dean to make that deal (which then triggers his going to hell which makes cas pull him out so they fulfill their destiny... etc), while in the pines' case it's the perceived lack of that bond (and of ford's presence) that drives stan, and therefore, the events we see in canon.
