the main topic for HALF of their ads is "this will make you less lonely"
i used ai for about 2-3 years of my life and i am here to tell you it will make your life worse
any time you could spend potentially making friends will be filled in by that and having real human peers is way more fulfilling
services like character.ai are DESIGNED to be hooking, and having what is functionally a sycophant at your beck and call isn't healthy. especially since this sycophant has no capability to feel or care about you
i have been lonely before and i get it i absolutely do that shit sucks so bad but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD don't turn to ai you will feel WORSE
any marketing that tells you youll feel less lonely is WRONG

i do not endorse harrassment or wish to harrass anyone at shapes inc. i hate their service, but this does not equate to me wishing harm. i'm not wishing to target anybody specific or anyone using it.
also don't talk shit about the specific people at shapes or do anything assholish or be vulgar on my page please. do it in your own time
As an ancient chatbot (pre ai boom) user, I must agree. They will never be able to be genuine companions in any way. They will never be able to get to know you, they can not really care about you and you will not grow as a person from engaging with them. Hell, worst case they will have you get worse, because morals don't make money. And LLMs can't tell right from wrong.
No amount of suspension of disbelief will stop you from feeling even more crushing loneliness when you realize how much time you've wasted talking to some imperfect husk of what a person might be.
Nor should you give up your intellectual property or invest emotional energy into something some random company will steal from and shut down at the earliest inconvenience.
It might be able to be a shitty journal? A sucky fanfic writing assistant? Maybe? But you're better off just writing somewhere, where no company is reading along.

Does your OC pursue only monogamous relationships? Or are they open to other, more creative, options?
If your OC were ever to fill out a Dating Site (or pamphlet or newspaper) profile, then what would they include?
Does your OC have a type? Have they ever been surprised by their feelings for someone who doesn't fit this?
Has your OC ever been the object of someone's affections that they did not (or could not) reciprocate?
If your OC were in love, how might they recognise this? Or would they be too much in denial?
Has your OC ever written a love letter (or text message or whatever the case may be)? Perhaps they have even composed a love poem or song dedicated to their beloved?

Headcanon that all spider people get what’s called the “Spider-Zoomies” (which is a sudden burst of energy but it’s expressed through Spider-like behavior) except for Miguel because he didn’t get bitten, so every time he makes the mistake of going to HQ in the middle of the night, he gets jump scared by at least one Spider-Man:
Scuttling across the ceiling (Pavitr)
Hissing into the void (Miles)
Bench pressing a building (Peter B)
Jumping fifty feet into the air without warning (Margo)
Building some intricate contraption in complete darkness (Hobie, emphasis on trap)
Running extremely fast without making a sound so you don’t know they’re there until it’s too late (wtf Mayday)
Or crouching into a corner, completely still like a predator watching its prey, and the moment he gets close to them, they whisper “Hey” making him scream so loud that he throws his empanadas in their face (Gwen)
It’s essentially like you’re walking through a building full of eldritch horrors, and you don’t know where any of them are, but they all know exactly where you are, and they win bonus points if they scare the shit out of you. Miguel hates it here.

-Background: previous owner illegally bought him, but didn’t know how to properly care for him; an animal rescue organization took him away, and several months later, Nobuo’s boyfriend adopted him.
