Lately everything that happens feels like it was engineered in a lab to drive us all insane
so. campaign 4 episode 4
He has me in a chokehold I fear
my interpretation of critical role campaign 4 so far
I really like the idea that Julien's curse is literally that Thjazi is haunting him, and while I'm not counting on this being the case, I do think it would be so funny if Julien's fighter subclass is some kind of echo knight situation wherein his echo is literally like... some sliver of Thjazi's soul. Like yeah you're being haunted by that fucking bastard you hate and also his shade fights at your side in combat. You have effectively become two sides of the same coin, mirror images of each other. That piece of the man you spiritually helped march to the gallows is taking blows for you. Makes Julien wishing he could've seen Thjazi die twice go hard as hell.
Congratulations Julien on your newly evolved daddy issues!! 🥳🎉
An addendum based on the tags:
This Wick character intrigues me. Squints at him... What's Wrong With You....
Jewelry inspired by a conversation I had with @ofteasandherbs :3 he DOES deserve more jewelry ur right
My commissions are open, if you're interested in something similar for YOUR character :3
Of course Laura Bailey already had me crying during the first episode of critical role campaign four. So I chose to further my pain by drawing the scene in question. what an incredible start to a campaign!!!🧵🪡🤎
To recap, so far we have:
Ex lovers who still care deeply for each other, not necessarily in the "I'm still in love with them" but rather "this is my family and I'll do anything to protect it" (Thaisha and Hal)
"we used to fight on the same battlefield when I was a boy, but do you recognise me now? Do you see me? Do you see how much I grew? Am I your equal now?" "I see you" (Azune and Teor)
Ex brothers in arms, one of them falling into being a drunk and hermit after being a coward, leaving the others behind and the second one greeting him with open arms. What forgiveness? I don't think you need it from me. I see you as my brother still (Teor and Kat)
A mentor and a mentee. A young man from a family that lives by countless rules with no room to breathe since they are a Symbol of Light. An older man who lives for art, who tells stories and writes music and creates countless universes that bring comfort or wisdom to many. One looking up to the other, to how he inspires people (Hal and Wick)
A demon who smells and acts surprisingly sweet at times and a priest who in the moment of high tension yells with anger that shuts everyone down. A bond. A pact? Another mentor and follower, but this time they're far more similar to each other (Tyranny and Wick)
A man carrying a dead friend (someone he looked up to, someone he loved enough to risk his life for) into his brother's home, then always watching said brother from the corner of his eye. Meeting eyes across the room. I want to talk to you, but I can't now. I don't know if I want to now, because what if the answers you give me aren't the one's I'm hoping for? What if you don't have any? (Azune and Hal)
"I love you so dearly that I'll come to the funeral of a person whose death I've laughed at simply because I want to be there for you and yours. Because I know you'll be hurting. So I'll put on a mask and tuck my feelings aways and I'll make sure your children don't see or hear anything that may upset them. Because I know you love them more than anything. Because I love them like they were mine. And you see my mask and don't think twice about it. You put your hand on the side of my head." (Bolaire and Hal)
I let my son study under you and you talk about him like he's your greatest achievement. You're the reason my loved one's brother is dead. You spit on his corpse and yet I can't make myself hate you. No, I pity you. But this pity won't help you if you're in any way shape or form a reason my little boy gets hurt. Then you'll learn what a wrath of nature means (Thaisha and Julien)
A twink and his three battle-scarred beefcakes (Occtis, Teor, Azune and Kat)
Okay, Critters. There's a lot to absorb from last night's premier of Campaign 4, but one thing I know is on everyone's mind is this lying liar who lies:
Rocking up to the funeral, we meet Wicander Halovar, supposedly a third level Cleric of his family's brand spanking new religion, The Candescent Creed. He's earnest. He's nervous. He's 5'11. He's already been boxed into a chair by Orc DILF Hal. He has a Wisdom of 10.
Wait.
That's right, our naive little Cleric apparently has a 10 Wisdom and an 18 Charisma.
As a Cleric.
The people, they doubt.
I know a lot of people are thinking Warlock, because of the Charisma. Plus the fact that Tyranny, his personal pet demon aspirant, is a Warlock.
But might I suggest a different path?
We know Wick cast Thaumaturgy (to amplify his voice and get Tyranny's attention). We also know that this Campaign is playing by 2024 rules.
Thaumaturgy was a Cleric spell, yes. But if you look it up on dndbeyond (dndbeyooooond!) now, it shows it as a Cleric spell in Legacy rules only. Now, it's a spell used by a brand new class: Illrigger.
What's an Illrigger? I'm so happy you asked.
Well, that's interesting. And definitely makes the whole demon-aspirant angle make a bit more sense, now doesn't it?
Even more interesting, is what scores our friends the Illriggers should take:
Wicander: Charisma, 18. Constitution and Dexterity, 15. So, how about that Architect of Ruin subclass?
For a young man who's never seen a dead body before? Yeah, I can see it.
Now, of course, new Campaign, who dis, they might choose someone other than Asmodeus. But assuming they loosely base it on him, there are a few interesting tidbits to keep in mind.
Like Lucifer, Asmodeus was once a Celestial who fell and became the ruler of the hells. (Lucifer, notably, was known as The Light Bringer). Another interesting fact?
Oh hey, look! It's our girl!
(Oh, something else that I found interesting but could also be nothing: Tyranny specifically mentions her forked tongue in her intro, and Illriggers have a special ability called Forked Tongue. Maybe a little [forked] tongue-in-cheek callout?)
Asmodeus also specializes in political intrigue (which House Halovar seems to be getting deeper and deeper into) and wants nothing more than those delicious, delicious souls (every soul who passes joins the light!) And his arch-nemesis in Exandria was the Changebringer which, let's be real, Sam would.
This concludes my TedTalk on why I believe that Sam Riegel, lying liar and little shit, is playing an Illrigger in Campaign 4, based almost entirely on his decision to cast Thaumaturgy and his WIS 10 CHA 18 scores.
Is it Thursday yet?
Happy Critical Role Campaign 4 Day for those who celebrate! Can’t wait to meet all these new characters and places tonight.
No, I’m not obsessed by this character design what are you talking about. I’ll draw other characters next time, I promise.
Tyranny is Whitney Moore's
@criticalrole Campaign 4 let’s go!!!!
it's kind of fucked up that pig is an insult considering that the pig is a humble and virtuous beast
