Illustrative Text
A brief in which we were required to finish the sentence “typography is...” with a word of our choice - I chose the word 'joy’! I used a stencil and crushed up chalk pastels to create this effect which I think perfectly reflects the word itself. We were additionally required to incorporate the phrase “typography is” into the image, however I think it looks better without it (shh).
The second image is a little bit of process work - it was another attempt which was a little too messy to be usable. The third image is just a close up of the texture which I think is pretty cool!
The font I used is called Smoothy, and you can find it here.
Visual Elements of Design Photographed
A set of 20 images that capture the core elements of design through photography. It was originally an A1 poster however I’ve optimised the text for easier viewing on the web (I hope).
I’m really happy with how this turned out - the images were all captured in the suburbs surrounding me and are all fairly abstract. The idea was to frame the images in a way that focuses on their objectivity rather than their subjectivity, thus revealing how abundant these elements are in the world surrounding us.
Also, fun fact: all of these photos were taken on a Samsung Galaxy S4. Your camera shouldn’t ever hold you back!
Reflective Postcards
A uni assignment. A reflective task where we were required to reflect on our first year of studies, producing imagery that supported six individual reflective insights.
My goal with this assignment was to make something that was fun and incorporated a little bit of humour. The insights are definitely reflective of my own experience, however they’re not too serious and are written in an colloquial tone to make the set seem a little more fun, rather than insights that are super deep and ridiculous. My first year of viscomm was fun, so I wanted to reflect that in this set. I think it paid off.
Also, there’s a typo on one of the postcards in the picture. I wish I picked up on that before I handed them in. Fantastic!

Hi! Haven’t done one of these in a while - I’ll leave the blame for that on university and life in general trying to crush me :--) This playlist isn’t some sort of great leap from anything else I’ve been listening to recently, however I have unexpectedly started enjoying Drake more. I didn’t really dig his music for a long time - just the style of his rapping put me off - but it’s kind of grown on me. I’m really enjoying some of his more recent releases, so this playlist has a bit of his stuff along with some other tracks I’ve been enjoying. Hope you like it!

This EP is so so incredibly good. It’s explosive. I never got into twigs before this - I liked some of her stuff and generally found her music pretty intriguing, but I couldn’t really get into LP1. It’s a nice listen, but I feel like it lacks a bit of energy to keep me constantly interested. However, this EP totally makes up for it, and I’m so excited to hear her next full length project if it continues in this vein!

This week I sort of focused on making a playlist based around synthwave. A few tracks skew, but a little variety is fine right? I’ve been really digging Tame Impala’s new record, Currents, and a few other artists in the playlist are old faves. Synthwave is honestly up there in terms of my favourites (blame Hotline Miami for that), so I hope you guys dig this little collection!

This album is amazing. Really unique, energetic and is kind of like a hard-hitting sonic rainbow of math rock that commentates on the world around us. A total groove that I’ve had on repeat!

This week has a heavy focus on rap. I really enjoy lots of different kinds of rap music - not all, but most - and this weeks playlist is a little darker sonically. I’m always keen to find new songs that intrigue and interest me, and this playlist is a combination of old and new finds.
