Blog for the interactive fiction Immortal, written by Robin (he/they). Created in Twine using Sugarcube, in development. 18+. Asks are open and welcomed.
It was supposed to be... well, maybe not a simple job, but it wasn't your first time being hired to track down a teenage runaway. But this one... you had a weird feeling about this one from the start.
As the dreams you've suffered from your whole life start getting more intense, and your missing persons case becomes a murder case, you begin to realise you've bitten off far more than you can chew. Now the only person who seems to have the answers you seek is a professor on a culture that has been extinct for centuries - and all you know about them is that they're hiding something.
Find the meaning behind your mysterious dreams. Will they lead you to catch your mysterious killer? Or lead you straight into their clutches?
Immortal is an 18+ interactive fiction novel created in Twine using Sugarcube. Content warnings will include death and murder, animal death in the context of religious sacrifice (looking at around chapter 7 - skippable) and sexual content (skippable). List will be updated in the future.

An expert on Rosutan culture spending a semester teaching at Crescent Hill University - half an hour from the site of the murder. They claim to be willing to help you - and they did save your life. So why do you feel like they're not being honest with you?
Officer Frankie Vega - they/them (nonbinary)

The detective working the murder case you've inadvertently stumbled onto - and she does not like you. Less, now that you're interfering in her case.

Abigail Cayde - she/her (cis)
All of this started with her disappearance and murder. What was she doing?

The crescent moon shimmers beyond the veil of clouds, silver light contrasting nicely as the sky begins to darken. It has not risen fully yet, no, its glow has not completely shone. But its fate is clear.
For that little crescent will rise soon enough as the blinding sun has fallen.
±25.000 Words || Prelude, Prologue, and Phase 1 (part 1)
Thank you so sooo much for following Court of Crescent until now! I know it's been such a looongg wait, so I'm incredibly grateful for your patience and continuous support! It's been such a blast to build this little world and share it with you allll 🩶
i looooove characters who are sacrificial lamb coded. characters who have never lived for themselves. characters born to be a tool, a weapon, a sacrifice, all of the above. a character raised by the heroes to save the world, at any expense, even their own health, even their own life. a character raised by the villains to end the world, at any expense, even their own health, even their own life. characters who are denied personhood so they can be used as tools instead. characters who never even had a chance to be people because they were shaped into something else from the moment they were born. characters who were born to die.
Hi! Day late because it was my birthday Wednesday so we've been doing most of the celebrations over the weekend :)
Progress-wise: still on the descriptions of MC's building. There are 6 options for building alone which you'll then habe a few choices to decide how you feel about it depending on MC's wealth and this is just flavour text and I don't know if you'll ever see these buildings again why am I doing this to myself. I didn't write these descriptions in the first draft so taking longer since it's from scratch.
Anyway, next check in is Tuesday and maybe I'll be out of this section by then. I have a job interview and trial lesson Friday so things will be slow while I focus on that but please keep your fingers crossed for me 😭
Enjoy the rest of your weekends, I'll see you on Tuesday and Wednesday for the next check in and WIP
Chapter 3 starts with a flashback to when Rezanii was newly freed from captivity after the invasion of Kortapolis. So for this WIP Wednesday, here's a preview of one way your reunion with Faustino can go. One of the more chaotic options:
After a moment, you stopped screaming, but not before your throat was raw and hoarse. You reached for him, hands shaking as you clung to the front of his shirt. You didn’t want to let him go. You couldn’t let him go.
“$name,” Faustino stammered. He stroked your hair. “$name, are you—”
You kissed him before he could speak.
It had been so long. So long without someone looking at you kindly, so long without someone touching you warmly. You didn’t just want him, you needed him. Your tears continued to flow even as you clung to Faustino.
You felt him freeze before reciprocating. His arm wrapped around you and you clung to him tighter before he pushed you away.
“$name,” Faustino stammered. “$name, we—you—”

Dude, the interlude ending broke my heart so badly. I chose to struggle and not let my f!MCs lover put the chains on her and I got so angry that he was letting it happen and being so willing to put chains on her and let her be put under house arrest for something she didn't do. That's how I know you did such a good job writing the scene that it gave me such a strong reaction!
This comment is so sweet thank you so much! 🥹 just know that it broke his heart as much as it did your MCs, but he knows what happens if he doesn't would be far worse.
Of course, she'll still be able to be hurt and/or angry when we reach the aftermath of that scene, regardless of whether she believes him or not.
I hope you continue to enjoy, and thank you so much for such a lovely comment!
Hi! So, after missing check-in 1 and the coding Monday (partly because I'm not onto coding at the moment), I am here for check-in 2 and WIP Wednesday. The IFNoWriMo events will be taking the place of the weekly updates I have recently been failing to keep up with.
So I know I've been radio silent for quite a while now. Currently job hunting which is taking up a lot of energy and leaving me in burn out. I'm hoping IFNoWriMo will help me get back into the flow of writing, even if just to finally get this chapter out by the end of the year. Will hopefully be finished for the end of the month, but with my focus mainly on my irl issues I don't want to make too many promises.
As I've mentioned in previous posts, the first draft of chapter 2 and its interlude has been completed, and I'm currently working on draft 2 in preparation for coding. Currently working through the options for players to customise their homes and clothing, so for WIP Wednesday, have the description for if your MC is returning home to a cheap flat. You'll have further options later on for how your home is decorated too, and you'll all get an idea of my terrible interior design skills when those descriptions come up XD
The gate was hanging off, the barrier holding in a tiny area of greenery that was filled with more weeds than the patches of yellowed, dying grass. You (gracefully sidestepped the uneven paving slab on the crumbling path / remembered the uneven paving slab at the last moment and panicked as you hurried to hop over it / remembered the uneven paving slab only as your toe caught it and sent you flying, catching yourself on the door). The front door was layered in dark green paint, peeling away a little more each day, and even after unlocking it you still had to shove your shoulder into it another three times before you could force it open.
Inside, the wooden walls were discoloured and water stained. Each floorboard creaked loudly under your feet, and you sidestepped the suspicious stain on the floor that had been there for as long as you'd lived in the building. There was a tiny lift in the corner, and you knew from experience that you'd need to force the metal gate closed over it with a shriek - but it was frequently out of order for months at a time and today was no exception.
Instead, you turned your attention to the thin stairs with their threadbare carpet, knowing better than to put any weight on the bannister as you (took the steps two at a time / made your way casually upstairs, thoughts focused around your case / cautiously made your way up the steps, watching for the upturns in the uneven carpet).
Thank you for reading and I look forward to the next check in on Saturday! :D Hope you all have a wonderful week in the meantime!
I thought it could be nice to make a post of everyone participating in IFNoWriMo (if they want to be included)! You can comment here if you want to be included along with your word count goal if you'd like to share it! I can update goal progress weekly for everyone interested in sharing.
It's happening!! Time will tell if this needs its own blog but for now, it'll share this one!
What is IFNoWriMo?
For 25 years, NaNoWriMo was a fun chance for writers to try and do the unhinged and write a novel in one month. Then they allowed AI in, in addition to other issues with their moderators, and now they've shut down.
IFNoWriMo is a small, interactive fiction-focused version of NaNoWriMo! There'll be small check ins, chances for people to share snippets of their work, and the joy of suffering together as we try to write Too Many Words at once. It'll be much less structured than NaNoWriMo but people who make their goals still get a neat certificate at the end!
IFNoWriMo Calendar
Tumblr compression strikes again, sadly.
IFNoWriMo starts at midnight your local time on November 1st!
There'll be a check-in post every three days where people can share progress and vent.
Methods Monday is a chance for people to share cool things they're doing with their code or variables! I feel like interactive fiction is unique in how much coding is required and all the possibilities it unlocks and Methods Monday is a chance to celebrate that!
WIP Wednesday is the same as always, a chance to share snippets of works in progress.
Then IFNoWriMo ends at midnight your local time on November 30th!
What counts? What goal should I have?
That's up to you! You can count code, you can not count code, you can work on side stories or worldbuilding posts, you can focus on the IF itself! Whatever helps you write more counts.
The traditional NaNoWriMo goal is 50k. But you can set your own goal for IFNoWriMo! Think about what is an achievable stretch goal and shoot for that.
Will there be prep events?
Maybe! I'm thinking through what prep events might be useful. The one that I'm sure about is that near the end of October, I'll make a post where people who want to can share their project and word count goals. Then at the end of November they can say if they met them!
This will sound awful when I posted last week from Exeter
But I just got home from Wales
Promise I don't usually travel this much XD
Anyway- first drafts for chapter 2 and the second interlude are complete! Interlude is much shorter than the first and doesn't have as many choices just because that's how it worked out, but it allows you to flesh out your dream figure a little more.
I will be getting into coding as and when I can tear myself away from my first BH3 honour mode run (just beat the goblin camp :D) hoping to have chapters released by late September? I'll see how it goes.
Hi! Currently in a hotel room because I have spent my weekend at DinoCon, which was incredible and I saw talks from some amazing people - including David James Armsby, who is a wonderful human being. Currently kinda sad there aren't more dinosaurs in either of my ifs :/
More to the point that you guys want to hear, I have completed the second investigation path! This leaves the third and final path, a short conclusion to the chapter, and then the second interlude before the draft is finished! Have a 4.5 hour long train journey tomorrow so might even get some writing done then (though depends how packed the train is because I have a thing about writing when someone is sitting close next to me). Hopefully this time the AC will be working because it was broken on Friday's trip 😭
Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful week! Fingers crossed will have another update for you next week!
