What lies under the facade of this White General and what does she have to do with Daryuns family? What does she know that Vahriz even hid from his own nephew?
Going through my characters (from my own books) for an artwork for this years pride month and a lot of them (especially the men? for some reason??) are aroace. I really like to assign them that label huh
one genre of fanfiction that seems to have mostly disappeared since i became an adult is shenanigans-type fics. like not exactly crack but just "the gang goes to 7-11" type, extremely low-stakes plot stories. the beach episodes of fanfiction. i just feel like i don't see those around so much anymore. whered they go. i miss them :(
"why can't they just be friends?" not in the homophobic sense, but in the "in your need to center romance in everything you are missing the whole point of the media in question" sense
It's June, motherfuckers, and you know what that means! Apart from firing a few rent-lowering shots to filter out the chuds from my following, it's probably also a good time to post a reminder that there are many strange ways to be queer, and this is one of them.
video transcript below the cut, may be slightly inaccurate, I tend to ad-lib when reading my scripts into voiceover
It's Pride Month, so if you'll forgive me I'm taking a two minute break from the One Piece, League of Legends, Marvel Rivals, Final Fantasy and PokÊmon shorts to tell you⌠Sylveon is trans, Taliyah is trans, everyone on the Straw Hats is queer, there are no words to describe how queer superheroes are as a concept let alone how queer they all are individually, and here's a fun fact for you: Cloud Strife's story gets ten times better when you understand it as an allegory for a trans coming out experience.
As for me, well, I'm not trans, but I do occupy my own little space in the rainbow flags which looks like this. I am aromantic.
We are generally not as visible as many of our queer siblings, probably at least partly because it's kind of a difficult identity to even discover in yourself, you basically have to prove a negative.
But what is this thing, "aromantic"? Well⌠okay, let's say you're a straight guy, right. You know the way you feel romantically about other men? I feel exactly the same way, and then I also feel that way about women, and then also the same way about all of the other genders.
Now, aromantic often goes along with asexual, there's a lot of co-occurrence of the two, but not always, and that is my situation. Yes to sex, no to romance, which being a man, yes, I know, that just makes me the same as 90% of the men you match on Hinge. "Ha ha ha didn't realize "fuccboi" was an orientation now," I know. I get it. I understand. I have had all the same thoughts myself, especially when I was questioning.
Which is the difficulty with being aromantic, because in order to figure out that that's what you are, you have to prove a negative. I have never been in love, and I have no reason to think I ever will be⌠but what if someday I meet The One??? What if there's a special divinely designated perfect soulmate out there, just waiting for me, and one day our eyes will meet across the room and it will be love at first sight forever?
And like. I can't prove that won't happen, anymore than I can prove that there isn't a flowery pink teapot currently hiding somewhere in the orbit of Saturn. And frankly, if it did happen, I wouldn't be mad. Why would I be? I would have a soulmate! That's a pretty big W, I think.
But⌠I've had over thirty years to encounter someoneâanyoneâwho can spark my romantic interest, and thus far, every challenger of every gender has failed. So either I am aromantic, or else you people have a skill issue.
Anyway, like anything to do with queerness, aromantic is a sprawling and diverse spectrum. You got your aroaces, aroallos, aroflux, arospikes, demiromantics, frayromantics, grayromantics, cupioromantics, there's a whole world of different experiences present under this umbrella. For me, though, just "aromantic" is fine. That's the broad label, that's the one I fall under, that's the identity I take pride in. Happy June!
fma Brotherhood was like this is the most epic anime ever made. look at these strong female characters girlbossing. genocides can be fixed with reforming the state! you can even fix disabilities used as a divine punishment if you try hard enough :))) <3
I think I did miss the sarcasm on my first read-through, but I am thoroughly fascinated by your interpretation of FMAB.
First off, it's representation of women is some of the best in anime, if not all of pop culture. Female engineers, women in the military, mothers who are depicted as strong and capable, and a woman who can't have kids and is not looked down on for it are just some of the female cast, and they all have *gasp* individual personalities. Compare that to Marvel, whose female characters range from overpowered and cocky to sexy badass. Riza, for example, can be emotionally vulnerable and even have a man be the center of her motivation without her ever being portrayed as inferior or emotional for caring about someone.
It also does a great job of breaking down the effects a genocide can have on larger society and the people it happened too, in addition to the steps it takes for reparations and to rebuild and restructure exploitative systems to prevent it from happening again. We see the ravaged communities of Ishvalans, and rampant xenophobia among the Amestrian population. It's also really fucking bold of you to suggest that this is a bad depiction of genocide considering the author herself based it off of the genocide of her OWN PEOPLE, the native Ainu people in Hokkaido. I think out of anyone, a person who is a generation or two removed from a genocide would be the right person to speculate on how systemic reparations could be made.
As far as disability representation goes... there are a lot of disabled characters in FMAB and the majority of them did not recieve their disabilities via divine punishment nor did they "cure" them. I'm generally not a fan of the "disability as punishment" trope but it's worth noting that for Ed the entire journey was about his brother. Automail was an inconvenience, but getting his limbs back was not his main goal and even then he still has his automail leg.
Aside from the whole "soul binding" thing, failed human transmutation could have been swapped for any real life accident caused by kids making a bad decision and the impact would have been the same. It's more of a "dumb kids fuck up and spend years fixing their mistake" story rather than a "the gods have enacted their wrath and we must atone for our sins" story. The boys grow and learn, and IMPORTANTLY they learn that death is a part of life and not something to be fixed, but something that makes life worth living in the first place.
Sorry I misunderstood your sarcasm! What was that about media literacy again?
Arakawa is NOT Ainu. she is a Japanese person. Japanese people are still to this day colonising indigenous ainu lands. get your facts straight. If she has any experience on genocide and imperialism, it's on the side of the imperialists. This shows in her writing. "behind the history of Ishval and Amestris comes from the history of her own family, who many generations ago have participated in the extermination of the Ainu people, natives of the Hokkaido Island." (Archbold 2023).
Those "badass women" riza, olivier etc are cops.
The brothers were literally punished for committing a sin, doing the taboo thing, by "god". it doesn't get more divine punishment than that. Disability is seen as punishment and magical healing happens after "lesson is learned". There is no way around it, no matter how passionate and lengthy responses you write.
some excellent points that have been made:
Ableism in FMAB +1
On portrayal of genocide and victim blaming
On reforming the state +1
Arawa and her relationship with WW2 & japanese guilt on their war crimes
My grandma just called and, among other things, said âYou have hips. Thatâs good! Men like hips!â and then she interrupted herself to say âWomen like hips. People of your preferred gender like hips. I can never rememberâÂ
And I was like âThanks grandma! My preferred gender is none of them, no thanks.â and she was like âOkay, no one will comment on your hips!â very self satisfied, like âaha, I have figured it outâ
I think like half her grandkids are some variety of not-straight and she canât always remember which is which but she is the epitome of like âsheâs a little confused, but sheâs got the spirit!â
I told my grandma that Iâd told my friends about what she said and that some of yâall had said you wished she was your grandma, and she said âWell, you can never have too many grandkids!âÂ
So likeâŚconsider her your honorary grandma* I guess?
*if you want an honorary grandma, that is
Update on my grandma: I told her my hair was standing up, but instead of straight line it was diagonal and she said âThatâs okay, youâve never been straight!â and then laughed so hard at her own joke I thought she was going to drop the phone
Spicy stuff has an unusually high ceiling, it seems like. Salty foods can only be as salty as salt. Even the sourest candy of all time poses basically no challenge to an adult palate. Spicy foods, though? They can be spicy enough to make you throw up and thatâs not even approaching the spiciest food ever. A spicy food can kill you by being spicy
You should be able to rot in bed for 2, maybe 3 hours after waking up before it starts affecting what time it is. If I wake up at 8:30 and lie in bed for 2hr it should still be 8:30 when I get up
#itâs NOT inexplicable#itâs bc someone based it on the unicode 6 yellow heart#which is colorless but shaded with halftone dots#and someone interpreted that like stubble#and drew this#which is SO FUCKING FUNNY via @animusbell
They have finally arrived!! And that on the first day of June. Happy pride, ya'll!! And thank you to @prideknights for the amazing quality! It was worth the wait! (Also they are a birthdaypresent that's why they're still wrapped).
