I tried my hand at writing fan fiction. I know it’s probably not great but any feedback would be helpful. I rewrote the wedding scene between Tamlin, Rhys and Feyre except I wrote it from Rhys perspective. Let me know what you think!
Mor was unusually silent as they sat and ate dinner. She knew what today was, knew that he was planning on getting drunk with Cassian later to forget. Knew he was trying to not think about the fact that his mate was marrying another male…..
“You could stop it you know,” Mor says, like she knows exactly what is raging in his mind. “You could call in the bargain you made with her just once.”
“Because it wouldn’t be fair to her. She deserves more than anyone to be happy and I’m not going to be the one that takes that from her.”
“You don’t know that she wouldn’t be happy with you.”
“Yes but I can’t just bring it up while she marries someone else. I can’t force it on her like that. She decided she wants to marry him and I will respect her choices.”
Mor went silent at that. She knew what it was like to not have choices, to be forced into doing what other people wanted.
He didn’t feel like talking anymore. He felt empty inside and was about to stand up and find Cassian when he heard it.
Help me, help me, help me
He went still. He could feel her thoughts racing. Nobody had bothered to teach her how to shield her thoughts and he could hear her practically shouting at him in his head.
Save me — please, save me. Get me out. End this.
And suddenly he could see what she was seeing. He could feel the panic she felt at marrying him. How she loathed herself and felt impure in that gown of white. How the red in the rose petals was bringing her back to that dark place that haunted both their dreams.
And that was when Rhysand broke. He didn’t care what they thought, didn’t care if she thought he was a monster. He needed to get her out and make sure she was okay. He stood up suddenly and Mor stood up, eyes roaming his face like she could see what was raging inside of him.
And then he winnowed to the Spring Court, letting his power out just enough that people screamed at the sudden darkness, at his power.
Remembering the part he was supposed to play, the evil High Lord of night, he straightened his jacket as he purred “Hello, Feyre darling.”
Gods, she was so pale. Her skin looked like his did from all those years trapped Under the Mountain, never seeing the sun. And her face was too sharp, there were too many angles. He could see her collar bone and ribs sticking out underneath that monstrosity of a dress.
When was the last time she’d eaten? Didn’t anybody else see that she was wasting away?
Don’t get distracted you need to play the part.
He lifted his hand to get Tamlin and Lucien to back down. He knew they were afraid of him. Everyone was afraid of him. Except for her.
“What a pretty little wedding,” He said, the lies burning on his tongue. He put his hands in his pockets, all part of the ruse, the carelessness that made them fear him.
He heard Tamlin in the back of his head. Heard him begging to leave Feyre alone and for him to leave. He reminded Tamlin that the bargain was magical and that he had stayed away for three months and let them have their freedom.
When Tamlin suggested that Rhys would hurt Feyre, he almost lost it.
How could I hurt her more than she has already been hurt? He wanted to scream. How could she look any worse than she did right now, so thin to the point where her bones look like they could snap?
As if he could ever harm her, the strong creature that had saved his pathetic existence.
He pulled her close as he prepared to winnow her away, warning her to hold tight.
And then they were back in his home above the Court of Nightmares. He would have loved to show her Velaris, but she couldn’t know. He knew Tamlin would grill her for information when she returned.
He watched her reaction. Her mouth was slightly open, as if she was in awe of the beauty that surrounded them. He had to admit that it was a spectacular view. He could only imagine what her reaction would be to seeing the City of Starlight.
She turned to him, and as she saw his smirk, her face turned into a snarl. “How dare you—“
“I certainly missed that look on your face,” he said, though he silently wished she would look at him with something other than rage, seeing as he just did as she asked. “You’re welcome, you know.”
“For saving you when you asked.” He could see the shock on her face. So she didn’t know that he could hear her thoughts sometimes.
“I didn’t ask for anything.” Her posture was stiff. He knew that despite what they went through, she still didn’t completely trust him. Not that he expected her to, after all nobody ever saw through the mask he so carefully wore Under the Mountain.
Instead of responding, he just let his gaze go to the tattoo on her left hand. The reminder of the bargain they had made. Except it was covered by a stupid white glove. Of course they wanted to hide it. He couldn’t control the anger he felt as he gripped her arm and tore off the glove.
“I heard you begging someone, anyone, to rescue you, to get you out. I heard you say no.” He was only trying to help her. Why couldn’t she see that?
“I didn’t say anything”. Gods she was so damn stubborn.
He tapped the eye on the tattoo, twice for the two times he’d heard her say it. “I heard you loud and clear.”
She pulled her arm back, and he couldn’t help but miss the feeling of her smooth skin under his fingers. “Take me back. Now. I didn’t want to be stolen away.”
Like he was going to take her back to the place that was very well killing her. He reminded her that he had saved her the embarrassment of rejecting Tamlin in front of everyone.
He could see she was struggling for an argument, and suddenly her voice was small when she said “What do you want from me?”
The pain in her voice made him angry. And gods she was still wearing that stupid dress, like a present for Tamlin.
“Want? I want you to say thank you, first of all. Then I want you to take off that hideous dress. You look …” he paused while he forced himself to look again at how thin and powerless she looked. “You look exactly like the doe-eyed damsel he and that simpering priestess want you to be.”
“You don’t know anything about me. Or us.” He could see the defiance that glinted in her eyes. Gods, she was so stubborn.
He just gave her a smile, because he did know and said “Does Tamlin? Does he ever ask why you hurl your guts up every night, or why you can’t go in certain rooms or see certain colors?” Because Rhys knew. He could feel her panic attacks. He saw her nightmares as his own and woke up puking, too. But she didn’t know.
She didn’t know, and he could see and feel her anger as she spat at him “Get the hell out of my head.”
He wished he could. He decided that he might as well make her aware that she’s the one that sends her thoughts to him. So he just said “Likewise. You think I like being awoken every night by visions of you puking? You send everything right down that bond, and I don’t appreciate having a front-row seat when I’m trying to sleep.”
She didn’t need to know that he would have nightmares regardless. He just wanted to stop being the person she thought he was. He wanted her to see past that monster.
He explained to her where they were and how she was safe. He would never subject her to the Court of Nightmares, at least not now, not unless she wanted or agreed to.
He decided that she was still upset and needed space, and began walking away to the hallway where he knew Mor was waiting, listening to everything that they had said.
He heard Feyre moving, could feel the anger she still felt toward him. What he didn’t hear was her hurl her shoe at the back of his head until it hit him.
He spun around, eyes wide at how fast she must have thrown that shoe for him to not notice it. She was surprisingly strong for how weak she looked at the moment. It made him wonder….
“I dare you,” he challenged. He wanted to see it for himself, how fast and strong she was.
And he watched as she flung it at him as swift and fast as the first time, except he caught it instead of letting it hit him in the face. He wondered if she realized that she was incredibly strong and fast, if she knew that she showed signs of having great power…..
It was too late to broach such subjects. He could bring it up in the morning. All he said was “Interesting,” as he walked away to go find his eavesdropper of a cousin.
Once in the hallway, he heard Mor saunter up to him, a sly smile on her lips. “So, that went well.”
He just snarled at her and stalked away.
