Summary: You are freezing and alone. But just before hope is lost a mysterious figure comes to your aid.
It's late. The starry night sky cast a dark and ominous shadow over this outer rim village. The wind was howling as you walked through the empty, vacant town. The force of the frozen breeze cascading against your shivering form made the blood in your body feel like ice. You could feel your fingers beginning to go numb as a nasty wave of hypothermia without a doubt was beginning to settle in. You needed warmth, you needed shelter; but to your dismay, every building around you seemed to be closed. The large windows of the local dinner lay dormant and empty. Its inky black interior added to the dread that was building in your stomach. You let out a soft sigh, a puff of fog escaping your lips into the crisp air. You felt defeated. Everything was closed. There was no warmth. No light. You wrapped your arms tightly around your waist, desperate to hold onto any heat left in your body. Though you knew it was pointless… It was just too cold. You look down at your feet burrowed so deep in the sparkling snow. You let out a small, pained laugh, knowing full well that you wouldn’t be able to last much longer out here. You could no longer feel your fingers and your vision was beginning to get hazy. You take one last look at the vacant environment around you. Feeling the shadows of the empty stores and shops creeping over the edges of the windowsills and up towards your shivering form. Everything was beginning to go dark. As if a void of hopeless vigor was rising up from the depths, ready to devour your waining soul. Less for a faint, orange light flickering out of the corner of your eyes.
And there it was, sitting idly by at the end of the street. Like a beacon of hope shining through the inky blackness. You spotted a quaint little pub. Its light flickering against the glistening snow almost as if it were lit by candles. Your heart jumped with joy as the thought of heat began to fill your mind. You immediately tried walking to the building but the piles of snow were causing your feet to move at a significantly slower pace. It did not help the fact that the cold was making it harder to move your body. Luckily, a small glint of perseverance was kicking in. Your joints were stiff And you could feel your feet beginning to go numb. You were close. It was only a couple of feet away... With only a few more steps left, your body gave out, falling right in front of the door. You were so, so close, but you were frozen. You couldn’t move, stuck there lying in the freezing snow. Your vision began to fade as you hazily watched a warm beam of orange light fill the area surrounding you. You felt a blanket of heat begin to encompass your body. But you were so tired that you didn’t care. Eyes heavy, you relaxed into the ground. Barely able to comprehend what was happening. All you knew was that you just wanted this situation to be over with. Through your hazy vision, you are just barely able to make out the form of a dark shadowy figure hovering over your freezing body before the world around you goes dark.
You don’t know how much time has passed by. Slowly, you began to blink your tired eyes open, stretching out your aching joints in the process. A beautiful, vibrant orange light immediately filled your vision and cascaded across your surroundings. You felt so… warm. Looking to your left you realized you were sitting next to a large open fireplace. The smell of burning firewood and the sound of crackling embers fill your senses. You could feel the warmth of the dancing flames thawing out your body. You then noticed a thick blanket wrapped around your frame. The inside felt so soft. It must have come from some sort of fuzzy animal. You weren’t sure how you got here or who would have done this. But looking around the room again, your questions are immediately answered. Standing behind you was a tall male figure adorned in a dark cloak. Your eyes were still blurry so you couldn’t make out many features. He leaned over you holding something out in his hand, seemingly wanting you to take it. You cautiously glance down studying the object the man was offering you. And to your delight, it was a steaming mug of hot chocolate. The top of the drink was adorned with a perfect spiral of whipped cream, marshmallows and what you could only suspect was cinnamon. You did have time to tell yourself better. heart practically leaping out of your chest, you immediately snatch the warm beverage from his hands. You wasted no time in chugging it down as fast as you could. You could feel the heat of the thick, creamy liquid building up on your tongue, almost burning it. God, it was so delicious. It filled your heart with warmth and joy and caused a huge smile to be plastered on your face. Suddenly realizing that there was still a mysterious man hovering over you, you looked back up. You hadn’t noticed before, but what you had originally taken as a multi-colored shirt was actually the man’s skin. A vibrant crimson color encompassed by beautiful dark tattoos spanning across the man’s chest, dipping into his collar bone. It was framed by dark v-lined fabrics cascading from his shoulders down to his lower abdomen. Looking up at his face you notice several sandy-colored horns protruding from his skull as well as more inky black tattoos. But what truly drew you in was his eyes. They were golden in color and almost seemed to glow in the dim, flickering light around you. His gaze was so striking. So intense. Like a glowing campfire on a cold winter night, warming you from the inside out, making you forget about your worries. You almost felt as though you could feel heat radiating off of them. It made you want to get closer. To know more about this daunting, mysterious figure. You felt that you should have been scared of the man but as you studied his face, nothing compelled you to be afraid. He simply made you feel warmth.
