Those ranged from ‘My aunt’s in town’ to ‘If I have to spend one more day dealing with that bastard, I’m gonna shoot him.’

But a member going into animalistic heat was certainly a new one; one he wished he never heard.

"Stop. I don’t want to hear more. That’s good enough, you can have the week off. I’ll put any assignments for you on hold so you have something to come back to. An eyebrow was raised at her request. He could understand asking for sick days, but as she stood in front of him, he couldn’t see anything wrong with her. So why would she ask for not just one day off, but multiple days?

“While I can arrange that, I’m going to needs some valid reason as to why I should. I’m sure you are more used to contract-based work where you do everything at your own time and comfort, but in a famiglia, you are supposed to be available to come in even if I call you at three am on Easter Sunday as your mother lays on her death bed.” That was mostly an exaggeration, as he did have some sense not to do that if he wanted to keep on good terms with his fellow Mafiosi, but the point still stood.
