I went to a funeral Friday. I was just thinking about it and in my head I was like “I had fun”.

Fun?!

But it’s true. The first part (the mass) and the cemetery part were sad. Seeing the family grieving and sobbing sucked. But the wake/lunch afterward was fun. I could see the look of relief on the faces of the family and I felt relieved for them. The food was awesome and free drinks. People were getting all tipsy and loud in the middle of the day.

And it was fun. And that’s what I want people to say about my funeral after I’m gone. “I had fun.”

The boys and I went for a little walkabout in the woods last weekend. It’s been raining a lot lately, which has proliferated these excellent fungi.

The large, yellowish-orange one in the center, I believe, is amanita phalloides, also called death cap. Eating it causes horrible gastrointestinal problems and can cause liver failure. Eating only half of the cap can cause death. So... the boys and I had a long talk about never, ever, ever, ever eating mushrooms or berries or anything they find outside, even if they think they know what it is.

It took me over an hour to get to work today. It usually takes 30 - 45 minutes.

I got stuck behind a garbage truck, two school busses, and two turkeys who couldn’t decide if they actually wanted to cross the road or not, so they were just running all around right in the middle.
