The blank queer status for those of us who haven't been taken in by the genocidal antisemitic propaganda... Zionism is the belief that Jews deserve self determination in their homeland. The Jews in Israel are a mixture of families who have been there for centuries and even millenia, and recent immigrants from the last century who legally purchased land in Israel to escape pogroms in the middle east and the holocaust in Europe.

Israel is an unapologetically democratic society. It's the only democracy in the middle east, and the only one that recognizes same-sex marriage. It is an ethnically heterogeneous nation, and a safe place for people of all religions who live there - not just Jews.

The state of Israel is the champion of the persecuted minority in the middle east. They defended the Druze from genocide in Lebanon. They offer a safe place for Palestinians who are persecuted for being queer in Judea/Samaria and Gaza.

Israel is actually pretty awesome, and so are the Jews who made it a reality. Zionism is the most successful indigenous land back operation completed thus far. They have put up with endless genocide from parties who cannot stand the idea of Jews living in peace, but they're still standing - a true testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

i think that when people call israeli bomb shelters “bunkers” it’s intentionally to conjure up associations of “wealthy privileged people being cowardly and hiding from the consequences of their harming The People” (bc that is what they believe) instead of “civilians taking shelter from war”

the more i think about Shane's relationship with clothes, the more i realize that he never really got the chance to develop a personal style at all.

he wears athletic wear because he has to. he wears the jersey of the team that drafts him. he wears the socks and jewelry his sponsors pay him to wear. he wears whatever outfits the stylist lays out for him.

and to some degree, that's a relief, a responsibility taken from his already overflowing plate. but at the same time, it's another way in which he's disconnected from himself.

clothes are one of the most common ways people explore and express who they are. their taste, their personality, the image they want to present to the world. but shane never does that. his clothes are always chosen for a purpose, and that purpose is almost never self-expression. Another part of his identity that he never really dares to explore.

so let's bring in undressing for ilya and, especially, his habit of carefully folding his clothes. Sure, a big part is his autism.

but if shane's clothes represent all the versions of himself that were constructed by other people, then undressing becomes more than just getting naked. he's deliberately removing those layers, one by one, and carefully putting them aside.

the folding is what makes it so fascinating to me. because he's not tearing those layers off or discarding them carelessly. he's taking his time. acknowledging them. putting them away with intention, almost like a form of self-deconstruction. Allowing himself to peel them away intentionally. He's not actually doing it for Ilya, he's doing it for himself.

interestingly, we only ever see the folding during their hookup era in the first two episodes.

by the tuna melt scene, he barely seems to think about his Shirt before tossing it aside (he's obviously busy already otherwise, but he clearly doesn't give it any thought).

and i don*t think thats accidental. if folding his clothes is part of the ritual of removing those carefully constructed layers, then by then that ritual is no longer necessary.

because now, ilya is already past them. another layer has disappeared on their path toward emotional intimacy, and we all know where that scene eventually leads.

shane is already aware, on some level, that his feelings for ilya have become too big to be contained by those outside layers.

This was the worst day in Shane's life more than the time he scraped his knee when he was four and the doctors latex glove gave him a reaction or when he ate cake ate Jenny's six birthday and got sent to the hospital because apparently there were peanuts in the cake, no this was his parents explaining safe sex to a flustered fourteen year old Shane.

I need to vent, I just realized the girls in my class never actually cared about me and the never will

I never share anything about my personal life on here but for context, I'm finishing my all girls high school in two days, and so we went to our teachers house for a good by. This isn't my main teacher because I'm in a class of only autistics and sometimes I join this class, class number one.

I was siting in my teachers house by myself when I realized that they never cared about me, for three years they barely talked to me only when they had to. And those who did talk to me were to bully my and to criticize me.

I spent three years being isolated and ignored,

Another girl in the small class with me would sometimes be in the big class with and they will talk to her and joke with her and ignore me, hell even my "friend" from the small class would ignore me when she was with them!

I was depressed last year and I think if I committed suicide none of them would care.

All I have to do is survive two more days and I don't know if I can

Seeing as I'm a resident heated riverly fan and Israeli I feel like it's my duty to share what is everyone's falafel order,

Shane: He almost never orders but when he does it's a laffa with hummus and tahini, saled, parsley white cabbage and grilled chicken and if he's feeling wild a bottle of flavored water, the grape one. (Its the superior flavor and you can fight me on that!)

Ilya: ever since moving to Israel his order is never the same. One day it's half a pita with falafel and the next a baguette with shawarma, you will never know. But he will always get a side of chips and a drink usually Cola, but sometimes he 'accidentally' buys the flavored water and just gives it to Shane

Svetlana: a pita with shawarma, hummus and tahini, spicy saled and normal saled, pickles and purple mayo cabbage usually also strawberry and banana juice

Rose: baguette with schnitzel, hummus and tahini, saled, pickles, parsley and white cabbage. Usually has a side of chips and a drink

Adding on to the fat baby Shane discourse,

I wasn't born a fat baby but thanks to my oral fixation as a baby autistic I breastfeed a lot, like non stop for two years my mom had to see a doctor for her back, a lot . And that was what made me a cubby baby.

I'm imagining that was the same for autistic baby Shane,

Yuna wanting to do everything by the book™ and exclusively breastfeeds, except Shane just latches on and never let's go. David wakes up at 3 in the morning after waking up at 1 and Shane's still latched on, cubby and happy.
