Edit , I just realize there's something in story that really throws a wrench in CCG aligning with modern Tory for party vote. Their treatment of transgender people & the LGBTQ+ in general. While the Tories have tried to pinkwash themselves, multiple deeper views into their activities show of great disdain for general Queer folk and sabotage of multiple events. Where as Mutsuki, a pretty clearly trans man is fairly well respected and admired as he grows in rank and treated as a comrade in the CCG. Where as the current Conservatives openly loathe trans folks and make multiple attacks on them in all institution. That and that other queer folk that are admired in it like Juuzou. This all admittedly comes with the mention that CCG personal is in the great majority not expected to live full healthy lives so atleast the actual big wigs might not feel this way.
But atleast in the CCGs headquarters equivalent it seems general acceptance of the LGBT is far more common than any Tory organizaiton. So maybe the CCG really is like a Labour Boots stronghold.
Admittedly, the great majority of those willingly in the CCG already see themselves as justified in killing ghouls sees themselves as justified for doing so, as it's revenged for loved ones against "cannibal monsters" a point of view that's very easily sold and distributed not just among Japanese citizenry, but to the majority of civilians in the general TG world. Even Juuzou after part 1 is killing Ghouls as revenge for Shinohara even if he rationializes as duty.
As such it's abit difficult as "wanting to keep the status quo" as we'd undertand in this... I guess British au with the Conservative Tories. iām writing this as i walk around italy so hopefully my grammar isnāt too shocking LOL
i think kaneki defaults to books as presents, because itās easy to find something that might interest the people around him: he can find a book about anything. he does a lot of online research a month prior because, frankly, he has no idea what to get yomo because he has no idea what yomo actually likes other than anteiku.
eventually, kaneki finds a cool book about coffee (groundbreaking haha get it because coffee grounds)ā¦ unfortunately it is sold out almost everywhere. he and hide have to search for it throughout june and, when kaneki thinks heās going to have to just buy him any old book, they find it a week before yomoās birthday.
yomo is very pleased and he wonāt tell you but he couldāve cried about it because it was just so thoughtful .

the first year yomo was at anteiku, he received a mug with ravens on it because duh. itās been a theme, yoshimura knows how much yomo loves birds, and he gets a new bird each year. because itās been a while, yoshimura has to get more new and obscure birds . touka taught him to shop online and he found a specialist shop and now orders them with yomoās name written on the bottom of them.
yomo treasures his mugs and, magnificently, none of them have broken . heād be a liar if he told you he didnāt take them home each night to make sure none of the staff shatter them, and he uses them as little as possible because theyāre treasures.

when hinami finds out yomoās birthday is coming up, she immediately employs her best pens and pencils to make the best card for yomo. i think yomo is more vulnerable with hinami than the others, in that he lets himself be softer with her because sheās so young, and i think she feels a lot of affection for him because heās so kind to her
the pens and pencils were gotten for her by yomo after all . she spends hours and hours and she ends up making a booklet of a card: nishiki helps her hole punch and string the cards together so there are pages, and it takes her a week to draw on each one . there are rainbows and butterflies and glitter and most importantly little black birds with orange beaks!!
she writes a very heartfelt message in the card with the best kanji she can and YES yomo tears up IN FRONT OF HINAMI and he is SO EMBARRASSED HE COULD DIE. she just hugs him and strokes his hair like he does for her

this is what iāve been working on in what i mentioned writing, i forget if i said this what im writing is post-canon and kaneki and ui talk a little in it, so this will help me write thank u!!! (but for safety reasons i should ask u to please leave my attic. u canāt keep listening to me talk.)
i think in post-canon ui would still be a little ruminating on the past kinda? like when he meets kaneki heās still remembering haise, and i think heās a little scared because like. dangerous and powerful and stuff . i think ui sees ghouls as unpredictable and violent by default, which is obviously a mistake born of prejudice on his part . (im thinking this is his thought process around :re chap 150 particularly and thatās why he doesnāt even accept the proposal to fight with ghouls: everyone accepts it for him and he just lets it happen)
ui is the shiniest prime product from the academy because of that anti-ghoul prejudice he has, thatās why he was perfect as a CCG investigator, and thatās naturally what biases him against haise/kaneki
sorry that deviated!!! as for post-canon (iāll start with after chap 178), i think ui has a lot of unlearning to do . spending time with ghouls, getting to know them, finding that they arenāt who he thinks they all are
i donāt think that process wouldve start with kaneki . in his eyes i think he sees kaneki as like end boss of the ghouls in tokyo, like kaneki would be top 1 most wanted ghouls and ui is scared of him but not in the traditional screaming and crying sense, i think heās very intimidated though
uiās ghoul journey for lack of a better term would probably start with kimi and then nishiki . i think theyād get along well and i just think itās plausible that he and kimi wouldāve met once or twice, and kimi is someone who has kinda been through that process before
once heās gotten to know several ghouls, acclimatised himself with cafe :re and things like that, itās inevitable heād bump into kaneki . i think ui wouldāve taken a back seat in the TSCās manifestation because letās be fr he needs a holiday . i also wouldnāt be surprised if there was some skepticism towards him after all of the furuta stuff
i think the person to ask him to help and join the TSC, maybe a few months after everything happened , would be kaneki . theyād probably bump into each other in :re (iām biased but ui and yomo would probably chill the freak out together, and take too when he visits!!) and kaneki would be liek small talking and then drop the TSC bomb on him
ui would totally be like āi need to think about it and then get back to uā and then avoid kaneki like the PLAGUE. heās such a fucking chud ā¦ but when they catch up again i think ui would accept
thats when i think theyād start getting closer . i know kaneki isnāt the leader of either the TSC or united front but hes the coordinator guy and i feel like everyone goes to him for the most part cus hes literally Kaneki.
i feel like kaneki had a specific idea for the TSC and united front respectively and he kinda knew who he wanted in what place: when ui accepted his offer to join the TSC i think heād have been a little upset to be the deputy head of the academy rather than. u know. the head . i donāt think heād be nearly as upset as he mightāve been when he was in the CCG, i think heās come to realise thatās kind of silly, but heād still be slightly disappointed though he wouldnāt say anything
i think kaneki has a somewhat solid understanding of ui and thatās why he gave ui an academy position . kaneki can empathise with what ui has gone through and thatās why he chose to give ui a less physical (if thatās the right word) position, because damn ui needs a break from killing shit! the way i see kaneki is as someone really observant and considerate so i think he put a lot of thought into the TSC as a concept .
after ui is hired in the TSC, i think he would complain a lot in the break rooms . i can see kaneki visiting to see how heās acclimatising and ui just starts going on and on and on like heās already been working there for years . thatās the way he bonds! theyāre bonding!
kaneki and ui are a good pair because kaneki will tolerate uiās complaining but always try to offer a positive outlook, and thatād help ui be less. you know. NEGATIVE ALL OF THE TIME
i think theyād hang out outside of work too . i can see kaneki being a very sought after person obviously but i think heād make time for everyone, so maybe one night every fortnight heād go with ui to wherever ui wants to go (usually a bar letās be fr) and just listen to him
i think ui would be a bit pissed off by kanekiās perceived saintliness but over time heād come to learn kanekiās imperfections and theyād get on better then . wow ui u sound like a fucking asshole bro
as for post-179, u will not catch ui babysitting ichika im afraid . yes he deals with students all day for hours but babies ? toddlers ? stop. youāre scaring him. do you see that spot in the distance thatās him running the hell away
ui doesnāt like children because theyāre unpredictable . not to project here but they donāt follow social patterns or rules, adults DO, and ui likes rules!! so yeah he does not come see her also he smells of fucking smoke like get him away
if he were to meet ichika i think sheād be very enamoured with him and probably spend far too long trying to get him to play dolls with her . heās just like Errr kid i gotta go work ummm and sheās just like PLEASE UI SAN YOUR HAIR IS SO SHINY and heās like š«¤ no
i think he would be closer with kaneki after chap 179, ui wouldāve settled into his job and kaneki would be less protective, for lack of a better word, of him and so theyād have just a normal friendship . i think kaneki would help ui chill the hell out and be less angry all the time and ui would try to help in return by bringing stuff to kaneki like snacks for ichika and even one time a bottle of blood wine that he felt very uncomfortable carrying but he was like āur a dad so u might want this i know i wouldā
but yeah. i think theyād be on good terms and happy and fun and smiling! i honestly think ui would mellow out a bit more getting into his thirties so he would be a little more relaxed and less uptight LOL so heād be good at getting along with all these people
not tsukiyama tho. ui would have gay beef with tsukiyama and i donāt mean the good kind of gay beef i mean that theyāre catty as fuck to each other and hate each other and they donāt even kiss

thank u for the ask! itās funny u send that because i was writing a brief interaction between kaneki and ui in a fic im working on, so i was thinking the same thing
ok here we go
i think itās kinda obvious ui is a little jealous of haise. in :re chap 38, ui is dismissive of haiseās mask operation idea: fura even says āarenāt you just opposed to sasaki being successful?ā and ui insists āheāsā¦ dangerousā
i think success definitely plays a part in uiās jealousy. ui was an associate special class at ~25, and haise comes waltzing in and is later promoted to that same rank at only 23 . obviously ui is a special class by the time the two interact, but if we do the math haise would be more successful than him by the time heās 28, too .
ui is bound to be jealous of that: he wants success for himself because he wants recognition, he wants to be something and i think that plays a part in why he aids furuta, as well as his craving for acknowledgement, particularly friends
furthermore, i think ui is jealous of haiseās relationship with arima. we see ui recognise haise and arimaās friendly relationship in volume 1, not to bring In a meatingā¦ into anything but itās obvious from that small interaction that ui sees those two, interacting amicably, and even sharing a hobby. ui admires arima and saw himself as arimaās protege, too, so it makes sense heād be upset that arima is behaving so differently with this more successful, younger and even new type of investigator .
i think this is shown best when arima and ui interact briefly in :re chap 45, where ui is relaxed and even has a brief inner dialogue āA former superior is about the only person you can relax in front ofā¦ā
this suggests some kind of anger because haise gets the undue satisfaction of seeing arima relax, where arima still seems rather aloof in front of ui, and leaves abruptly, making ui seemingly feel dejected and put out, he even kinda looks like heās pouting lol
i think part of ui does genuinely think haise is dangerous, but itās more of a danger to himself and his social life than his life because of the ghoul of it all . i think ui is scared of being replaced and he thinks he sees haise doing this, ui doesnāt have the self worth that tells him he isnāt about to be swapped out by someone so different from him
i donāt think he distrusts haise though, he clearly knows heās competent as an investigator if heās scared of him, and ui also chooses to trust haise during the rose extermination
the rose extermination develops their relationship too, i think ui had a strange sort of fearful respect for haise when he sees him like eating the kakuja in :re chap 57, its kind of like ui sees that haise can do things for himself instead of others and i think thatās a trait ui can admire and tries to have, but i think he struggles to put into practice
i think that, after the rose extermination āfailsā, and uiās reputation depletes, i think he feels a kind of resonance with haise, who was looked down upon for being a half ghoul with a perceived lack of control: now ui is seen as someone who canāt truly control a mission or see its success
after haise leaves the CCG, i think ui tries to keep some kind of professionality (:re chap 100), but he clearly struggles when he has emotional ties . i think he had hope for haise and is disappointed by what happened
on the other hand, i think haise liked ui! its hard to say haiseās exact opinion of him because i think haise was friendly with everyone and also he kinda had lost his memories so hes busy with that but i think haise seemed to respect ui, esp considering he went to ui to ask about the mask operation!!!
as for headcanons, i think theyād be good friends if they ever did get close
i think haise would be rather motherly in regards to uiās smoking, me and my friend spoke abt this recently (not ui specifically but haise) and how haise would totally give candy cigarettes to his smoker associates just to see their face .
i can imagine ui being like āwhy r u giving me this r u trying to rot my teethā and haise being like āur already rotting ur teeth im just making it sweeterā and then doing fingerguns
i can see them doing karaoke together and going out to bars until haise has to help ui home at 2AMš although part of me leans towards haise having a specific bedtime . he would totally come get ui if ui should call though
