bay area perhaps doesn’t come off at its best when one’s impressions are limited to “highway driving away from san francisco airport.” (1) wow they’re not lying that fully half these billboards are for AI, (2) there’s so many teslas, (3) we passed a prius with a thin blue line sticker which I recognize is a single data point but it did make me go “what the fuck is this foreign place have I found myself in”

Last week, the Trump administration quietly released a sweeping new federal rule that would use funding threats to force institutions across the country to reject transgender people. The 400-page proposed regulation would codify the administration's anti-trans executive orders into binding federal policy, imposing a blanket prohibition on federal funds going toward "gender ideology"
The proposed rule, formally titled "Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance," rewrites the government-wide framework governing all federal grants across every agency. Among its most consequential provisions, it requires that before a federal grant recipient can receive money, the award must pass a "pre-issuance review" conducted by a political appointee—not a career expert or peer reviewer—to ensure it is "consistent with applicable law, Federal agency priorities, and the national interest." The regulation explicitly instructs these appointees to screen for "denial by the recipient of the sex binary in humans or the notion that sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic." [...] An institution that acknowledges transgender people exist—through its policies, its training, its healthcare, its bathroom access, its HR procedures, its name-change processes—could be deemed to "deny the sex binary" or to “support the notion that sex is mutable” and have its federal funding blocked.
Importantly, the gender ideology prohibition has no age limitation—hospitals could be targeted not just for providing care to minors but for providing gender-affirming care to adults, because prescribing hormone therapy to a transgender patient of any age could be deemed promoting the belief that "sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic."

My jeans I found in a thrift shop with no name or tag attached – but clearly made with a lot of love. The top is a Kapital indigo dyed kimono jacket. The shoes are Onitsuka Tiger. I've been a preschool teacher for the last 5 years, and I take a lot of inspiration from the kids themselves and a little bit of Magic School Bus. I try to combine making fuctional wearable art with things that make the kids in my school smile and feel inspired to be a little weird and out there. I used to show up in suits and ties – and then one day one of my students showed up in a full Clifford outfit and it shook my core. What was I even doing, haha? So now I try to stretch imaginations with a lot of thrifted pieces or handmade things by my wife and I.”

my brother asked very specifically for a baby sister when he was a toddler, which is a cute story often brought up in my family, and these days when it is he often says to me—like he just texted in a group chat with my mom and I—"I give you permission to change your gender and not be bound by my request at age 3.5. In case that’s been the only thing holding you back." that would not be the main barrier, no, but I appreciate the sentiment.
I'm usually sooo good at getting produce and staples at trader joe's at the cheap prices they set in the hopes that you will then spend a lot of money on their snacks and prepared foods, while avoiding the comparatively expensive snacks and prepared foods. unfortunately on my last trip I got the really stupidly named "step up to the snack bar mix" and I'm now incredibly addicted. honey mustard pretzels AND sesame sticks AND cheese crackers. the cute cashier was like "wow you can really get so much produce here for $40" though and seemed impressed by my healthy and budget-conscious purchasing so I can't give in further.
now that thirty seconds have passed I can safely report that I received probably the most notable verification code I ever have in the hundreds of times I've needed to refer to a text/email/app to log in, which was 004004. somehow now "most memorable random verification code I've ever used" is a value in my life I need to keep track of. I would ask you all for yours but likely this is not something most people feel the desire to remember.

I swear my undergrad is the only college in the country where the “women wear white dresses to graduate” trend hasn’t taken over. there are a few but it’s solidly a minority. what does everyone have against colors…
just realized that I can actually delete the "10 gauge shotgun" sound that shows up first in my alphabetically ordered apple music library that only has a dozen or so items that I at one point used in imovie or something. this realization happened not after the first time I accidentally opened this app and hit some key that played this automatically-selected-first gunshot noise directly into my ears, but the third or possibly fourth time.
