Misc/in more than one story:

Jack

> His lore is entirely undecided as he's an important character to multiple characters who's stories have changed over the years. The gist of it is that Jack is Lucas' older brother who was one of the very first people that the military decided to experiment on. He later escaped the military and universe and ended up on a planet mystically bonded with some sort of magical crystal, not that he was the only one.

Jack is the cause and reason that planet exploded.

> All of them are on board the same, small ship technically owned by Captain but maintained and steered by Kurtako. They all come from different backgrounds, and all of them are trying to survive and live with their pasts. Some seek to escape it, others are trying to make things right.

There's simply too much going on with all of them, and too much that I'm unsure of, to accurately describe them.

But they all have a common enemy. One I'm still trying to figure out.

> A lab experiment who escaped, found a planet with a crystal calling his name, survived that planets destruction and woke up from a coma several years in the future, and who was then captured by another lab who wanted to continue the research done on him by a now old and ancient lab which he too later escaped, Shadow wants nothing more than to go back to the planet he once called his home to see the damage done and to find his crystal again.

He later joins the space crew, and much like them, he's too complicated to explain/summarize properly. With lore I'm unsure about or haven't decided if it's canon or not.

Shadow is the one in this blog's pfp.

And yes, there is an important reason why there's two versions of his name.

I have noticed that a lot of my stories revolve around love as the opposite of a force for good.

Love that changes, and not for the better. Love that destroys what was, love that makes you betray yourself. Love that is inexorable, that makes you go, I know this is wrong but I cannot stop.

In my fanfics, I often do this with monogamous romantic love- excessive devotion to one person as a sympathetic character flaw (my current in-progress fic has a character who gives up far too much... holiest love anyone?), fated soulmates as subtle horror (...I need to get back to writing Double Life SMP fics) (some of my Romeo & Juliet fics also fall into this) (as will my OC Vilya's story when I get around to posting about that on my sideblog). But I've also realised that The Tale of the Traitor is using similar themes and tropes for an intimate and twisted platonic relationship.

This love breaks you. You cannot withstand it unchanged. You cannot keep your wisdom and your morals.

This love should scare you, but all you feel is a weary resignation. You know you cannot escape it.

#something something this pairs well with the whole *gestures* loneliness thing I've apparently got going on with everything i have #two sides of the same coin. There's a different kind of loneliness here #but still it is lonely. Either to devote yourself fully and wholly for someone else that it destroys you #or for someone to claim to love you at the cost of you.#There's also something to be said about how at the end or during some of these stories they Do end up finding people who love them for them #People who are unconventional. People who understands without being told the horrors they've gone through even if they'll never get the #extent of it #People who are broken and terrible and who are objectively worse than the people who claimed to love you but didn't #People who will actually listen to you. Learn about who you are instead of clinging to the image they have of you.#People who's hands are covered in blood or mistakes. People who's pasts haunts them so visibly and terribly. People who. Despite all of tha #Still loves you for what and who you are and not what you could've been.#There is loneliness there. Of course there is. Loneliness lies in the could've and what ifs and #in the dream that the people who were supposed to love you actually did #There's loneliness in waking up from night terrors and nightmares #and mentally disappearing and no one knowing why #But there's so much love there too. For they don't know why to understand. To know. To help. To try. To be there.#To see the ugliness and never once think about leaving or changing or fixing anything #..I miss Lucas and Desten and Lac #this goes for Shadow/Shad and the space crew too #I could go on and on and on but I'd run out of tags before I ever got it all out #Something something about Shadow being so desperate to go back to the people who made him want to kill himself #refusing to believe that they were bad for him and that they were dead #and not realizing that he's found people who are so much better on the way #If he hadn't found the space crew #the aftermath would've been much. Much worse #Inc mumbles

#Lucas would stare deadpanned at whoevers holding the gun. He's tired -be it literally or in general- and he's got shit to do.#Lucas isn't Lac which means he wouldn't lean into the gun and smile and egg them on. Asking them if they're scared to pull the trigger #Lucas isn't Desten who would sit back as if to get comfortable and raise an eyebrow. Desten doesn't want to get shot but #he's grown impatient over the years. Either they're brave enough to shoot or they're trying to build up the courage or they're stalling.#Lucas is Lucas. He'll sit and he'll stare. Done and already tired of the charade. He ignores any thoughts of sucking the gun off for fun #Just to change things up.#He needs to meet someone in 25 minutes and he doesn't like making enemies just because he's late.#So he's going to stare at them because he's got better things to do. And he's going to ignore the voice in his head that's begging #the gun to go off #Oc Lucas #Oc Lac #Oc Desten #They're so far removed from normal that anything involving danger is as mundane as walking #Especially when it involves something as regular and common as a gun. Lucas loves his guns and he's Good with them but he's #also passively suicidal

dehumanized characters who reject their dehumanization, who scream that they're a person, they're human, they're just like you!! vs dehumanized characters who embrace their inhuman status, who don't care if they're perceived as dangerous as long as they're not perceived as lesser, who say 'fuck humanity, I'm something different but I'm still worth the same as you'

#oc Shad #He's seen as an animal. as an 'it'. as a monster. as something Other #He doesn't really care how people see him but he'll use it. Lean into it. He hates being referred to as an animal #but if they're scared of him he'll give them a reason to stay that way #In a literal sense he Is other. He was made in a lab. Made to to last. Made to hunt. Meant to be used.#Not that they got very far with that last part.#Shadow knows what he is. Knows he's a weapon. Knows what he's capable of. Knows he terrifies people. Knows knows knows so many things #and yet he hates it when he hears someone call him an animal. Hates it when they leash him and muzzle him and restrain him #He's used to it. But it doesn't quell his anger.#Shadow is an 'it' like an animal is an it.#and Shadow is a 'he' like a creature claiming sapience.#and Shadow is a 'they' in the literal sense.#He doesn't mind being called an 'it' but he can tell when they use it like they would call an animal 'it'#and it'll make him even more pissed off. (He gets More pissed off when referred to as 'they' because he hates getting reminded of the fact #that people got their hands on him and altered him in a way he has no control over. Over the fact that there's now 'two' versions of him.#One of which he has no control over and who's going to be the reason he ends up back strapped to a table.)

#His body might or might not work in his favour because Apuharently dying can activate once dormant genes #even when those genes aren't his own #He's also being hunted by several people #one group wants him for Bad reasons the other wants him because he's sometimes someone else #and the only thing He wants is to go back to a place that's the only home he's ever had but is the place where things were so bad #that he eventually wanted to kill himself and saw no reason for anything to the point he was barely sober #but ignoring That the place also doesn't Exist anymore #Which he's in denial about and refuses look at the evidence until he's standing before what used to be all he ever had #which is ignoring the fact he's been sent to a future where everything works so weird and differently #and it makes him feel more alone than he's ever felt before #oh Shadow the thing that you are. Made to be a weapon. Not meant to be the finished product. Became the only and last living thing of #the experiment #Painfully aware of the room of corpses just a few rooms over #Always alone and always an outlier no matter the place or the time #He never had anything and yet still had everything taken from him #He's terrifying to come across and is every bit the weapon and animal he was made to be and he thinks every act of kindness is a trade #or a trick #Nothing every comes for free. A lesson he learned early and a lesson that's ingrained into his bones.#Nothing ever comes for free and everything can still be taken from you.#Oc Shad #and later on even his mind becomes someone else's. Using gun but not to kill

Using gun but without shooting it. It's a intimidating factor and a possibility. In extreme case it can be shot to a non vital part,

But what's more fun is:

Punch to the jaw while holding the gun: classic trail of blood down the forehead.

Shoving the gun in whumpee's mouth: what's a better way to silence a talkative whumpee.

Guiding whumpee's face up with it: To see what's deep rooted in thier eyes, Fear or defiance?

Pressing it into their back: Or their side, while whumpee is unaware of what they are going to get into. The bruising pressure against their bone, guiding them.

Choking them with it

Hitting the wrist with it: perhaps to make whumpee drop thier own weapon

And one different trope that those above,

Keeping it trained on someone Whumpee cares about: can whumpee call the bluff? Will whumper actually go to the lengths and shoot? Kill? Or hurt "loves one" ? Should they lunge for whumper's gun?

So many possibilities

They're His contacts and he doesn't see why the rest of the crew needs to know #If he doesn't have any other choice but to let the crew know about his contacts he won't tell them how he knows them (and they won't ask)#Most of his contacts are from before he 'got' a crew (more like he slowly and unintentionally gathered them)#Or from whenever he goes on his solo missions #Lac knows people from when he lived on earth. But since they're from Earth and On Earth they're usually not that useful for them

Hey so I know we All Know This but I will NEVER be over a character being feverish and delirious and making No sense. I will never be over a glittery-eyed, shivering, distressed character weakly gripping another's arm and asking them questions they don't know the answer to, and probably don't mean anything at all. I will never be over characters calling out for people either long gone or right next to them, but unrecognizable in their delirium. I will never be over a character crying in frustration and fear over something in their head they can't explain to whoever is helping them, and all they can do in return is stroke their hair and shush them gently.

#oc Lucas #whenever he comes back from the dead he's usually extremely high from the electricity and being brought back to life #and sometimes he'll call out for his mom and dad #forgetting for a moment that they're dead and a universe away #He'll always be a son first and a soldier second #He's still scared of thunderstorms.

what’s the point of giving your character severe trauma if it doesn’t make them an asshole to work with. not in a cute way. they should be a fucking cunt. they have to make problems on purpose. they have to lash out at their friends without even being provoked, just because they’re having a bad day and they want to hurt someone to cope with it. on purpose. they have to want to hurt someone on purpose. they can regret it later, but they can’t just say something mean on accident, it has to be calculated and cruel and so, so intentional.
