Percy woke up startled. The sound of Annabeth's frightened, disgusted voice trying to stop him… the power surging through his body at the sight of Misery's pain… the defenseless, powerless, hopeless feeling of Tartarus still lingering even after realizing that he was safe.
That he was home, in the loving embrace of his boyfriend.
Inhale… Exhale… Inhale… Exhale…
He could see the blond hair of his boyfriend shining in the moonlight; the blue, ocean themed blanket thrown away during his fight against his memories; the full moon peeking through their window; the Finding Nemo themed clock he got from Thalia, together with a shovel talk for his birthday as it was the first time she met with him as his "future sister-in-law"; the peaceful sleeping face of his beloved boyfriend.
He could feel the soft, cool cotton sheets; the hard wooden bed frame; the silky locks of his slumbering love; the hardcover book he read before falling asleep.
He could hear Jason's quiet, puffing breaths; the rhythmic ticking of the clock's minute hand; the occasional rumble of car hurrying who knows where.
He could smell the fresh air blowing through the half-open window and the smell of his sweat caused by the night terror.
He couldn't identify. Maybe the mint toothpaste he brushed his teeth before going to bed? Or the lazy kisses he swapped with Jason? But more likely it was just his own taste.
At least, he felt better.
Not good enough to be able to sleep back, but his breathing slowed down and he didn't feel like running out of the world.
But he had to leave the room. It felt too small, too much, too little, too… he didn't know what, he just had to go.
In the living room, he threw himself on the couch, not knowing what he wanted to do. He must have dozed off, because when he woke up, Jason looked at him, concerned, from the doorway.
"Another nightmare?" he asked quietly. Percy nodded tiredly, and sat up to make space for his boyfriend.
Jason moved to the end of the couch to make sure Percy could comfortably stretch his legs as he laid down, head on Jason's chest, feet on the armrest.
The blonde smiled, and started running his fingers through Percy's fluffy black bird nest he called hair. He used his other hand to massage his shoulder, neck, and nape, helping him relax.
"Ohh, that's good," Percy moaned in bliss, as Jason dug into his muscles. The raspy tone was the same he tended to use when he was aroused, when he talked dirty during sex. It made Jason shiver, but he didn't stop caressing, massaging Percy.
It was not the time for sex - what Percy needed was comfort.
But when Percy opened his beautiful sea-green eyes to meet his gaze, the mirthful sparks in them showed Jason that his boyfriend knew what he was thinking about.
They silently observed each other, until Jason subconsciously licked his lips to wet them, and caught Percy swallowing dryly.
"I love you, you know that, right?" Percy said, and watched as his boyfriend blushed so prettily.
"I love you too," Jason smiled, pressing a chaste, delicate kiss on Percy's lips and thought about that silver ring in the pocket of his jacket, waiting for him to ask the big question.
