i’ve noticed a lot of like…confusion as to why people are so frustrated with the addition of several new characters and villains and the frustration towards jaune especially in general and i feel like there’s a lot of misunderstandings.

i’ve already talked at length about problems with specifically jaune’s character-but reaching back a little farther, you have to understand that for people that have been with rwby since the very beginning (and no this is not a discussion of whether or not you’re a ‘true fan’ base on how long you’ve been here-if you like rwby you’re just as good as anyone else end of story and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise), since the days of when the trailers were coming out, it’s especially frustrating because back then all we had and all we knew about rwby was this right here:

since november of 2012 to july 2013-that’s almost four years now-there was a huge, huge fanbase already with this and the trailers for these girls as the entire hook for the show. that’s over half a year of people’s enthusiasm being localized entirely around the promise of the development of these characters, and it’s over three years of that promise being never fulfilled in the case of some, and only partially fulfilled in the case of others if they’re lucky. ruby is a side character in her own show, we only just got a little background information for weiss in volume 3, blake has had arguably the most development out of anyone in the entire team and yet it’s come to volume 4 and there’s only just starting to be signs of a possible family, and also after volume 2 it feels like her sense of purpose is getting left by the wayside for favor of other…scenes (i hesitate to say ‘development’) of villains that lack a sense of mystery or urgency (because the guidelines for what constitutes magic/semblance/dust in this world are not defined in the least). yang’s motivations seem to change on the whims of the writers at times and overall everyone just desperately needs more meaningful screentime.

jaune is now the main character. i really hate to say it but when you consider who has the most scenes and dialogue, who the camera fixates on most in group shots; things that wouldn’t be as much of an issue if only, if only ruby were developed any more than barely any at all, then it’s unfortunately true that ruby has been relegated to a backup character.

she’s been affected by what happened to yang in the tournament, she’s been affected by penny’s death and pyrrha’s, but it’s purely cosmetic. she’s never actually failed as a direct result of her actions or alleged inexperience and never grown as a result. all of that kind of drama is saved almost exclusively for jaune: blake’s fight against adam had extreme consequences for yang and it’ll undoubtedly affect her…once we get to her in the story, too.

i understand that ‘it’s the first episode’. but it’s the first episode of the fourth volume. you must understand that there’s a huge amount of people that supported rwby since as far back as late 2012 because they fell in love with these girls! and held on for half a year with excitement from only their trailers and some continue to do so, but unfortunately for others their patience has dwindled with the introduction of so many new characters and elements with so so little explanation and they’re no longer around to see whatever development or hard work may happen, and it just feels really sad. these were monty’s girls that he himself likened as being like daughters to him and it just feels like they deserve the development already.

TL;DR: rwby was advertised in a certain way for upwards of half a year: don’t be surprised if people are disappointed that the girls don’t have development after more than three.

I Bitch alot on this blog but this is also big reason I stopped watching. I really love team rwby and back when I saw the show trailer at the end of red vs blue season 10 and heard monty gush about it, I was super excited for a show centered around girls.

Also I realized at the end of last season the reason it's so easy to find quoted for this blog is because non of the characters besides like Jaune are fleshed out enough, and they can all easily fall into a few archtypes. Like I just can't emotionally get into the show it's 4 volumes dude and no one has any depth

Update on this blog: haven't seen the new season of rwby, was really against the idea for a bit but forgot why now, was probably the fact Victor mitocondria was still in it and if rather put a hand mixer in my ear and bake a fucking cake then deal with that mess If I do decide to watch it expect a lot of more quotes, if you like RvB then follow my other quotes blog @incorrect-rvb because I'll never get tired of that and I'm updating soon.
