Rare Aesthetic: goth at a city rec center

You work at an after-school program, and the kids constantly complain to you about your choice in lipstick (black) and speculate on your mental health. You worry because they're more or less right about how depressed you are, but know that they'll never understand why.

You go on walks on the city trails every day before your shift, and as you do, you see people walking their dogs, riding their bikes, and skating. You wonder if any of them have listened to the Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, or She Wants Revenge. You enjoy the strange barrenness of the path, right next to the tracks of the commuter rail. You enjoy the vine chainlink fence separating you and the speeding trainthing. You listen Cities of Dust by Siouxsie, and try to convince yourself that you feel ready for the oncoming day of work.

You get cheap iced lattes every day before work, and the people at the shop know you by name. You bond with them over unique makeup, strange earrings, tatttoos and being nonbinary.

You wear earrings from Spirit Halloween, a skeleton hoodie, and black lipstick with your uniform.

You hope that one day you can quit, do something else, but still feel drawn to the city. You imagine a glamorous day job (whatever that is) and going to goth clubs at night. One day, you will be free of this job.
