1. If Iām not mistaken, Maria ought to have an MD if sheās qualified to assist in surgery, though all the artbook says is she completed a the National Standard Paramedic Curriculum.
2. If Iām not mistaken the artbook says heās in his 20s, but he should be 33. (The book says he entered med school at fucking 12. But it also says he was 16 when the Cumberland College incident occurred.) Never mind how completely unrealistic it is for him to start med school at 12.

Sheās kind and fairly outgoing, but she can also be quite stubborn for a 6 year old. (Considering her parents, is it any surprise?) She tends to be very curious, and is the type who will touch the stove once despite being warned not to, just because she wasnāt told why not to and wants to find out. She really likes to be physically active as much as possible and has trouble sitting still for long periods of time. She tends to be quite resilient in the face of scary things and is usually optimistic even when things get tough.
Education: Currently in kindergarten; attended preschool
Likes: Her family (including Chloe), cute things, the Resurgam doctors and Little Guy, candy and junk snack food (much to Naomiās chagrin), playing outside, puzzles (but rarely has the patience to do them)

Health: Inherited Mariaās allergy to shellfish (confirmed via allergy testing). She has asthma and was born deaf, both of which are attributed to her being born at only 23 weeks.
Languages: Her family learned to sign just for her. She went to a signing preschool and now attends a signing elementary school, so sometimes she actually knows more than them. Theyāve been trying to help her learn to lip read because they think it will make things easier for her. Her voice works but sheās never shown any interest in learning to speak.
Hospitalizations: Was hospitalized for months at birth. Has had to go to the hospital for asthma attacks a few times. Broke her leg a few months ago (see more below), though all that required was a cast.

Naomi feels ambivalent about her citizenship and is thus remaining a Japanese citizen, but she has a green card acquired through Delphi. By the way, Alyssa has no Japanese citizenship due to being adopted.)
Ā Ā Ā - She used to go to daycare when both mothers were busy (though they tried to spend time with her as much as possible -- resulting in her occasionally hearing things young children probably shouldnāt at Naomiās job). In the past year theyāve been leaving her home with Alyssa when need be. Resurgam has a daycare but none of the staff could sign, so that was only a last resort; it felt cruel to send her somewhere where she couldnāt understand anything or communicate her needs.
Ā Ā Ā - A few months ago she figured out how to climb trees -- something that concerned Naomi, though Maria shrugged it off with anĀ āI used to do it all the time.ā Unfortunately, one day she got on a branch that wasnāt quite strong enough and fell. It was nothing too serious but she got a broken arm. Ever since then, she hasnāt tried climbing anymore trees. She misses the feeling of being high up, but sheās scared of falling again.
Ā Ā Ā - She calls NaomiĀ āMamaā and Maria āMama Mariaā because Alyssa does. (Alyssa started calling NaomiĀ āMamaā a while after being adopted; she didnāt want to call her Mom since she already had a mother, whose death she still blames herself for, but she also wanted to acknowledge her feelings of Naomi being a mother to her as well. For that reason, Naomi is Mama and Maria is Mama Maria to her.)
Ā Ā Ā - Naomi was worried after her genetic disease that, even though it was completely eradicated, she may not be able to safely carry a child. So Maria did it, although she wasnāt very happy when Esha finally just about forced her to take maternity leave (because thereās only so much running around thatās safe to do when youāre pregnant).
Ā Ā Ā - Considering that Maria was running around too far into her pregnancy and tends to be under a lot of stress, Sara was born prematurely. She needed respiratory assistance and they werenāt sure she would pull through, and Maria blamed herself the entire time. She was born at 23 weeks and couldnāt eat or cry. She spent the first months of her life in an infant ICU connected to a respirator and IV.
Ā Ā - Sara and Alyssa generally get along quite well. There are some times even Alyssa gets frustrated with a ābabyā always following her around and copying her, but she never can get too upset because nearly losing her as a baby is still all too memorable.
Ā Ā Ā - They considered cochlear implants because they thought it would make things easier for her, but after doing some research decided against it.
Ā Ā Ā - She currently wants to be a forensic analyst like Naomi.
Ā Ā Ā - They thought about adopting, because Maria knows more than anyone how many kids need loving homes, and how it feels when no one adopts (wants) you. At the same time, although she feels selfish for it, Maria in particular really wanted a biological child, given the state of her biological family (or rather, effective lack of).
Ā Ā Ā - Alyssa didnāt take the news that she was going to be a sister well at first. Wasnāt she good enough? Were they going to love the baby more since it was actually biologically theirs? Luckily, they were able to reassure her before Sara was born and she soon became super excited about being a big sister.
Throwback to this... um... thingĀ I made like 6 years ago. (In my defense I was like 15 and drawing with a laptop mousepad.) Incidentally, in addition to the Esha blog, Iāve always wanted to make a āKimishima familyā blog. It would feature Naomi and Maria as a married couple, Alyssa, and their science!baby Sara (pronounced āSawraā).
Maybe I should write some fics about Kimishima family. I always hesitate with that because I donāt know if people would read them; Maria/Naomi is a rarepair to begin with and I know most peope arenāt terribly fond of OCs.
(Though Naomi was American -- not native American like Hank obv, mind you -- in the Japanese version, changed to being Japanese due to localization stuff in SO.)
Also we canāt forget that the chief of Resurgam is an Indian woman and the chief of CIFM is Black.

In related news, this blog is alive again as Iām back on a TT kick. Iād also be happy to revive my Naomi and/or Claire. (And Iāve been itching to make an Esha, but since Iām not sure if the TC RP fandom is breathing at all other than me, Iām holding back.)
Iām also presently working on a really feels-y fic about Maria and Esha (because I have all the family feels about those two) but it might be a few days before itās finished because my jet lag is seriously killing me. :ā) Also because Iām finally back to work on the art book and developer blog translations; having finished third year now does definitely make it easier so Iām also updating the ones Iād already done.
Based on when she compares him to herself as a child and that chronologically this is right before Mournful Hero iirc, I think after Esha dragged her off (and presumably scolded her), Maria realized sheād gone too far. We see that she has no problem with violence, but I think thereās a clear difference in her mind between punching a guy who can clearly stand up for himself and provoked her anger versus threatening someone who isnāt really defending himself. (This is supported by the artbook, which says that despite doing some less than moral things growing up, in the orphanage she stood up for kids like Rosalia who got bullied.)
Most likely, Esha reminded her that CR has no memory; maybe he did it and maybe he didnāt, but if he canāt remember anything is he still the same person? And she would remind her of the lives CR had saved at Resurgam. Also, that he had been convicted on purely circumstantial evidence -- that was, being the only survivor. I feel like as Chief, she was aware of his conviction and was asked for permission before his first surgery, so she would have been aware.
So Mariaās trust is born out of a combination of seeing similarities between him and herself, and realizing that Esha trusts him (and she obviously trusts Esha).
I feel like Iāve heard somewhere that it and a pen can be used in a pinch, though I canāt imagine where I would have possibly heard that so take it with a grain of salt. She seems to carry some of her supplies with her*, so I just assume she also carries around a boxcutter and pen for just in case such a situation should arise. (A boxcutter is probably easier to carry safely than an actual scalpel.)
*Based on Desperate Rescue, as she hadnāt come by ambulance but still had the basic tools with her. She didnāt have, say, splints, but she still had gauze, stabilizer, antibiotic gel, etc. -- things that could fit in her jacket pockets. Granted, Tomoe was able to use her endoscope and she probably does NOT carry that with her, but weāve also seen that Tomoe can teleport.

Maybe someone could do it in a dare? Paying 20 for someone to eat a small tube of antibiotic gel was a fair trade. The FDA had approved it and she never saw anything beyond try not to ingest as it could cause stomach irritation. The worst she could think of was someone getting sick because of it and having a lingering aftertaste of the gel, which was not worth it even by itself.
The little bit of fidgeting wasnāt lost on her. She raised one silver brow and took hold of her cup, letting it warm her hands.Ā āAhā¦ I can see mentioning her grave discomforts you. Iām sorry.
