MIT Design Lab Seeks IoT Expert/Maker
IoT expert / Maker | MIT Design Lab Design and development of IoT prototypes and connected wearablesStart date: ASAP
MIT Design Lab
We seek to radically reinvent and create connections between people, information, and places. To accomplish this, the Design Lab uses research and user observation to develop innovative solutions in wearable computing. For more information, please visit design.mit.edu
Main Tasks
Candidates will design and build advanced prototypes of connected wearable products. They will select the most advanced technologies available today (ambient sensors, connectivity systems, power sources, and augmented reality devices) in order to build working prototypes of wearables in the field of IoT. They will be responsible of all the phases of the prototype design and development, from technologies and components selection to the actual making and testing of the prototype. Candidates will also help to build reliable interfaces for the extrapolation and visualization of data coming fromsensors. Candidates will work in a multidisciplinary environment and will collaborate with industrial and user experience designers.
Prerequisites
Candidates should have a strong mechanical engineering or computer science background, and have advanced knowledge of methods, tools and processes that allow the making and testing of working prototypes of connected objects in the field of IoT. Candidates have experience in building fully working prototypes of wearables embedding sensors and transmitting data via Wifi or Bluetooth. Candidates have the ability to select the optimal technological solutions and components (e.g. sensors) available on the market on the basis of specific technical needs. They also have experience in creating reliable interfaces collecting, transmitting, and visualizing data coming from sensors. Candidates have excellent technical knowledge, and are also able to collaborate with experts from other disciplines, in order to design, build and test connected wearable products. In addition to being incredibly creative and skilled, the right candidate is a team player, self-motivated and has a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines. Knowledge of Augmented Reality systems and experience in building prototypes embedding AR is a plus.
