Here are the frst three pages of a mini comic I have started to make shortly after my granny passed away in early January. I was struggling to get into drawing again after a longer pause, dealing with grief and a cold. So I had decided to work on this short comic idea I've had for a while now. I wanted to make something fluffy and wholesome to cheer myself and others up and I also decided from the very beginning that I wouldn't try to polish this. This is supposed to be a low effort comic that helps me in several ways.
This comic is for my GoodGardenerAU, focusing mostly on Eden because we need more fellspawns art š
I'm not giving myself a deadline for this comic, I'll just work on it whenever I feel like it! Pages 4-6 are already available on my Patreon.

I saw the headcanon that Muriel might be God in disguise.
But what if its not a disguise? What if they erased Gods memories? I mean, how can you have full controll over Heaven? By getting rid of the people above you so you are the most powerfull one there.
The thing is, I don't think Aziraphale thinks of it as changing Crowley at all. To him, Pre-Fall Crowley and Demon Crowley are the same person, kind and fun and sweet and cool and equally beloved. So to him, there should be no difference whether Crowley is here on Earth or up in Heaven with him, he'll still just be Crowley, and at least this way they would be safe and protected.
All the while Crowley sees it as Aziraphale's long-term love and acceptance being conditional (like God's that was already ripped away), that Aziraphale has just been slumming it with him being a demon bc there wasn't anything they could do about it, and that he's jumping at the chance to fundamentally change Crowley the first chance he gets.
I also dont think Aziraphale sees Crowley as a bad person who needs to change, I think to him Crowley is a good person who has been mistakenly put into the wrong category and who deserves to be forgiven and officially reinstated. HeĀ“s still hung up on labels and heaven and hell as fixed categories of good and evil, because recognizing that things are more complicated would threaten his entire worldview and his own self-image. He has to think that God is flawless, but based on heavens good/evil dichotomy, he also thinks that God made a mistake when she turned Crowley into a demon, because surely he is kind and nice and good, surely he doesnt deserve damnation - he deserves Gods love and approval. After all, Aziraphale knows how easy it is to love him. Even if Crowley did do some bad things in the past, surely by now he must have redeemed himself? In the end, he just wants Crowley to be happy and safe and he thinks that Crowleys refusal to accept āforgivenessā or return to his angelic status, is based on his on self-doubt and insecurities, while in reality Crowley simply wants to be free of any opressive systems. He doesnt need to be told that heĀ“s a good boy by heaven, and there is nothing desirable about the angel status anymore to him - he just wants to love Aziraphale openly, that is all the validation he needs. But Aziraphale thinks Crowley deserves more, he deserves not only Aziraphales love, he deserves Gods love as well. Maybe there is even a bit of guilt involved, because we now know that it was a conversation with Aziraphale that made Crowley question the divine plan in the first place.Ā
It is tragic, that all the corporate brainwashing from heaven is still so deeply ingrained in Aziraphale subconscious, but he will have to learn to see beyond the good/evil categories once and for all. Likely heĀ“ll have to question God openly. He will also have to understand Crowleys perspective on this and (once he understands how hurtfull theĀ āforgivenessā comments were for him) he defo needs to perform one hell of an apology dance.
Do not apologize for the long addition! (I'm a tumblr elder; that's how we used to do it in the old days, I miss it lol)
YOU GET IT.
Aziraphale is so awful at communication, even worse than Crowley is, bc he just can't seem to use his words and explain that he's trying to do this FOR CROWLEY. Not "for Crowley's own good", which is what is being heard, but "for Crowley" full stop.
It isn't about changing Crowley, it's about giving him a gift, rescuing HIM for a change, courting him. Maybe even thinking that this will leave them free to continue whatever they've finally started down here, without the ever-looming threat of Heaven or Hell behind them. But certainly it's meant to be a gift. They showed the scene of Crowley creating the stars for a reason. We needed to see him as Aziraphale saw him, happy and unabashedly joyful, so that OF COURSE Aziraphale would think he would want that back. Not listening to what Crowley told him point-blank in the Job episode: that That. Is. Not. Him. Anymore.
The Fall changed him, fundamentally. It permanently changed his relationship with Heaven, it shaped his personal philosophies, and while it hurt at the time and still does, it has also given him things like opportunities and relationships and freedoms he never would have had otherwise. And he wouldn't change any of it.
And it hurts him deeply to think that Aziraphale would, except that THAT ISN'T HIS INTENT AT ALL.
People - including Crowley - also keep overlooking the single most important thing.
Something is Wrong in Heaven and in Hell, or this whole business with Gabriel couldn't have happened. And that endangers Earth - which Aziraphale loves both for its own sake and because it's the place he exists with Crowley.
Mind you, he doesn't know about the vote for Armageddon 2 because Crowley hasn't even tried to tell him anything he and Muriel discovered in Heaven. He has no explanation for Crowley returning with angels on his heels, but "disguised himself as an angel to spy on them and came back with the whole hierarchy in tow" probably never occurred to him. He does not have the full story of how and why Gabriel's memory loss happened - from the information he gets, he could easily conclude that storing his key memories in the fly was part of a plan to slip out of Heaven unnoticed that Gabriel bollocksed up. Nor does he know about the Book of Life threat, because Crowley never told him why he came back after the initial fight over whether or not to harbor Gabriel, until the archangels bring it up right before Metatron comes in - and puts a stop to it. So he knows less about the threat to Earth than the audience or Crowley - but he is a lot more on top of it than either.
People talk about how stupid both of them are all the time, and at a human level they often do seem to - but this is the angel who took a book an extended family of clever, talented, well-trained, experienced witches had been poring over for 400 years and extracted the antichrist's phone number from it in a night. Within his area of expertise, he is extremely smart. But he can only draw flawed conclusions from flawed data.
Aziraphale does not want to go back to Heaven. He gives Metatron an unequivocal NO to start with. Only by dividing the team (which they should not have allowed; I don't know how different things would be if Crowley had said: "I'm not leaving you alone with this wanker" and Aziraphale had said "Anything you have to say to me can be said in front of my partner" but they would be different, and that's on both of them) and trotting out some well-honed manipulation skills does Metatron prevail.
The Final Fifteen is the bandstand all over again, except that this time Crowley's the one actively withholding information, while Aziraphale is taking several key things for granted (if it's obvious to me that earth's in danger and it's our job to fix it Crowley must see and feel the same; I love Crowley just the way he is and he must have recognized that ages ago). At this point Crowley is presumably withholding his information simply because the stress of framing his relationship to Aziraphale in the human terms Nina suggested to him has made him zone out on the larger issues; but the fact that he's been withholding information from Aziraphale for six episodes does not have that excuse.
One does not achieve a clusterfuck conversation like the Final Fifteen in a mere fifteen minutes or without the full cooperation and confusion of both parties. This is the culmination of several years worth of mutual mismanagement and the papering over of serious issues such as any couple might encounter. But even if they communicated perfectly - Aziraphale would still have to go to Heaven, unless he or Crowley can come up with One Single Better Idea for protecting Earth.
I think Aziraphale's spiel is based on the assumptions that a)Metatron is listening and b) Crowley will be willing to go with him because he is so dedicated to protecting Aziraphale. He doesn't expect "we can be together and it'll be nicer than before" to appeal to Crowley; he expects Crowley to respond along the lines of "it won't be nice at all; they'll try to control you again but I won't let them." Having the bedrock of Crowley's protectiveness yanked out from under his feet like that must be heartbreakingly distressing; but Aziraphale knows something Crowley may or may not have realized.
Aziraphale knows he's been deliberately nerfing himself so Crowley could have the pleasure of rescuing him and he could have the pleasure of being rescued. He can't know whether he can protect the Earth from a Heavenly base alone, but if Crowley won't come, then, he has to.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā When Aziraphale finally came back, Crowley didnāt really much care what he was saying, or mumbling, or choking out, but instead was watching him like a hawk for signs of what he really meant, like he always had, and it was so familiar an action that he almost didnāt even care what he found, he was just so blessed glad to be able to do it again, only what he did find was that Aziraphale was sagging under a despair and a relief so profound that eventually Crowley was satisfied enough to say, āIām tired. Need a good nightās rest. Letās pick this back up in the morning.ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā And Aziraphale had looked both petrified and grateful, so Crowley had leaned back on the bookshop sofa and gone to sleep. Which wasnāt really a surprise, given that he hadnāt exactly been sleeping well lately, but what had surprised him was that in the morning heād seen Aziraphale had fallen asleep, too, something heād hardly seen in their millennia of knowing each other. So he supposed theyād both needed it.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Which was why, when they both woke up around noon, Crowley did something the bookshop had never seen in its decades of existence, because normally they had so many places they wanted to go together, but now all they really wanted to do was stay there, and so he ordered takeaway.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā And so there they were, Crowley sat on the sofa and Aziraphale in an armchair, Chinese takeaway boxes scattered on a hastily cleared-of-books end table, with Crowley shoveling noodles into his mouth because he hadnāt realized heād been so hungry. And Aziraphale was holding one dumpling between a pair of chopsticks, looking like a statue.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āSoāā Crowley said, with difficulty around the noodlesāhow had the angel always managed to talk and eat at the same time, all while looking so prim?āand heād never gotten the hang of chopsticks. Which, all right, heād lived in China for a few centuries over the ages, but heād eaten far less often than humans did, so it still wasnāt all that shameful. āSo, whatās next, then?ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āRather a lot, Iām afraid.ā Aziraphale glanced at him when he said it, did that little twitch of an eyebrow he couldnāt help doing sometimes, even when he was squashing everything down inside him, like now, then looked away.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Crowley shoveled more noodles into his mouth. Aziraphale took the history of the worldās smallest bite of his dumpling. Crowley frowned.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āAndāerāā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āI wish I couldāve come back to you with it all being finished,ā Aziraphale said sadly. āāDone, I solved itā. Well, Iām afraid I wasnāt all that useful.ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āFrom what you told me last night, you did loads.ā Crowley stared at the dumpling. āArenāt you hungry?ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āOh.ā Aziraphale grimaced at his chopsticks. āEr. Havenāt really eaten much. I donāt wantāuhādonāt want to upset my stomach. You know how it is.ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Crowley just frowned. He took another gargantuan bite. Too big, really. It was all he could do to chew.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āThe last thing I wanted to do was to come back to you with more problems,ā Aziraphale said wretchedly. āBut they just kept getting larger and larger, and eventually it was now or neverāand Iām justāIām just so uselessāā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Crowley chewed faster. He really shouldnāt have eaten so much at once. He could do the snake thing, he supposed, but he really didnāt think a big old reminder of how inhuman he was would be quite appropriate, right now. Still, he had things to say, or rather, to interrupt, so he swallowed painfully, made a horrible noise, and finally hissed, āNever mind that, just, letās just, get through this day, all right? Just one day.ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Aziraphaleās eyes went distant. Crowley wondered if they even measured days, in Heaven. They certainly tried not to think about it in Hell. Aziraphale was still holding that blessed dumpling, hardly touched, with perfect chopstick finesse, and he wished it would fall, just so the angel would have to catch it with his teeth.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āWhat are you doing?ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āWhat?ā Aziraphale snapped halfway out of his daze.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āWhat are youāwhy are you eating like that? Why arenāt you eating?ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āI told youāā the angel said, sounding just peevish enough to spur him on.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Crowley reached over and took the chopsticks from him. Aziraphale sputtered. Crowley gestured with the dumpling. āWhy are you being so weird about it?ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āCrowley, are you airplaning that dumpling at me?ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Crowley paused mid-airplaning the dumpling towards him. He said, āN-nāā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Aziraphale gave him an icy stare.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āāMember before it was airplanes?ā Crowley said. He smiled. He felt something bubbling up inside him, and Aziraphale, remembering himself and trying to look penitent again, was not going to stop it. āIt was trains, for a while, right? āHere comes the train, carrying your food.ā Donāt think they ever did that with a horse and buggy, though. Sāpose youād imply the kid was eating the horse, which wasnāt really the thing.ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āCrowley.ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āBefore they had food-carrying vehicles, how did they get kids to eat, then? Do you remember?ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āNot really.ā Aziraphale looked a bit wretched again. Crowley handed him back his chopsticks, and the angel took them. Took a bite. So small, it could hardly even be called a nibble.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Crowley sighed and leaned back into his own seat. āAnyway, I guess none of it really makes sense. Youād have to eat the whole airplane, too.ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā They sat in silence for a while. Crowley took another bite of lo mein. Because of the chopsticks, and his fear, after everything, of what would happen if he dropped food on the bookshop floor, heād held the whole carton up to his mouth and dumped it in, and now he really was choking, and after a few moments of terrified silence, he gave up and did the snake thing. Dislocating a human-shaped jaw really was less dramatic than when the entirety of you was just a long tube, but he knew it still looked odd. It wasnāt the reason he hardly ever ate in restaurants, but it was a small part of it. When he was done, he clenched his teeth back together and winced in the angelās direction.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Aziraphale was looking at him with a wistful expression that was part amused and part something else. He said, āI missed you.ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Well. If everything before hadnāt been enough, that certainly was. Crowley said, āDo you at least want to try drinking something? Some cocoa?ā and his own voice startled him with its softness.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āCāmon. Iāll make you some. Youāve got to wake up the stomach with something, right?ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āI supposeāā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āIāll make you some.ā He rose from the sofa with the grace of a marionette being picked up by the strings, which was ironic, since he had never felt less like a puppet. āBe in the kitchenette. Right back. Donāt go anywhere.ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā And he left, because he knew he wouldnāt.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā When he came back, steaming warm mug in his hands, Aziraphale had put the dumpling away, but the doubt in his eyes had changed to something near hope. He took the cocoa and stared into it while Crowley sat back down. Not all the way, not leaning back into the sofa, but elbows resting on his knees, leaning forward towards the angel. Aziraphale looked at him, and Crowley tilted his head at the mug and raised his eyebrows, just a little. Aziraphale smiled, closed his eyes and, after taking a deep breath, took a sip. Then he winced.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āI should have waitedāā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āHere.ā Crowley reached for the mug and touched it with his index finger. Then, needing something to calibrate the temperature to, he put his other hand on top of Aziraphaleās. He performed a minor miracle.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā He let go, leaned back, and Aziraphale looked at him. He took another sip. The angel closed his eyes and, slowly, drank the whole thing.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā When he put the mug down, it was empty.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āThankāā Aziraphale started to say, but he shifted, his face a pained grimace. He put a hand to his stomach, waving Crowley off with his other hand when the demon had made a noise of worry. The angel sighed and his face relaxed.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āDid it upset your stomach?ā Crowley asked. Again, that soft voice. Croaky with misuse.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āA little.ā Aziraphale looked up at him. He gave a watery smile. āIt was wonderful.ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Crowley felt his own face doing something. It was something like a grin. āYeah,ā he said. āYeah.ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Aziraphale looked at the remains of the Chinese takeaway. There were still several unopened boxes. With the memory of the angel passed out in his chair, eyes closed, chest moving slowly, Crowley had gone a bit overboard with the ordering. He hadnāt even known the bookshopās address. Just told the delivery person the street name, and said, āBookshop with a big black car in front of it. You canāt miss it.ā And he hadnāt. It was an iconic duo.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āWe couldāā Aziraphale said thoughtfully. āWe could save those for later, yes?ā
I'm probably insane, and also sleep deprived, but do we have an explanation for why Crowley changes so much through history that I somehow haven't picked up on? Or is it something along the lines of he's compensating because when he Fell things about him were permanently changed without his permission so now he changes himself because he never wants anything to be taken from him ever again and so him changing his hair and his clothes is his own little form of "this is me changing of my own free will and you cannot take that from me" rebellion
He's just really into trends and fashion. He wants to be cool so so bad. basically everything he does in terms of clothing and decor is "would the Platonic Ideal Of A Cool Guy do this? then I will as well."
Now, is this because he is socially traumatized from the biggest rejection of all time and spends his entire life searching endlessly for some sense of approval and belonging in times and places he is always in but never of? or is it simply because he's, like, kind of a douchebag?
Down to five days on the Good Omens Kickstarter. Hope you guys haven't become bored with me posting about it.
Naturally, we're all thrilled with the response.
One of the things I'm finding really helpful is listening to the original audiobook while I work. It's amazing how you process information differently depending on whether you read it or hear it.
There are small details I missed - or forgot about - that I've gone back and tweaked because I heard something while listening to the book.
I include few descriptions of action in the script: I usually just post a page # to the original novel text to make sure I go back and read it again if I think I need to. Your mind can run off in directions the source text didn't go, and it's important to go back and "touch grass" as it were.
Anyway, again, thank you for your incredible support. We're thrilled to be able to bring you high end books and great swag.
If you haven't looked at the Kickstarter page, be sure to check out the new rewards, we've added some wonderful high-end limited editions now.
I was imagining Crowley trying to mentor Muriel on Earth, (mostly because the other option is being depressed, bored, and lonely without his angel) and them getting kicked out of a sushi bar after Muriel goes utterly feral over something relatively bland like edamame
hhhfgbdjd i don't know what would be funnier, muriel fixating on the blandest shit on the planet like edamame or simple boiled rice or them fixating on. fucking wasabi. just asking for wasabi over and over again. crowley is looking at them in disgust and shock but he's also having a good time cuz the waiters are getting confused and impatient and disgusted themselves and he loves to see it
I figured this out by pure accident because musically, Iām not a big fan of Tori Amosās singing style (Iām sorry š, besides the point though!), so I pulled up the original instead to put on my playlist.
And GUYS. I donāt think āA Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Squareā is about them at the Ritz together in the 21st century, or at least not at firstā¦
Itās about this.
āA Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Squareā originally came out in 1940 by Vera Lynn, one year before Crowley pulled the most romantic ass stunt Aziraphale had ever seen and, letās be honest, the vibes uh⦠changed. I mean there was a reason the rumor of them being an item spread in hell around this time.
And thatās not all, the song was actually meant to be part of a musical, on the West End. The place where they made a fond memory together for the first time in nearly a hundred years, took care of each other, trusted each other. Hell, where Crowley and Aziraphale, both friends of the theatre in different ways, probably heard this song about causing the impossible and falling in love just a year prior.
Yah so Iāve FULLY drank my own koolaide and completely believe that they already associated this song with each other. Not only saw it as a fond reminder of that night in 1941, but the quite, gentle reality they might have together someday. But they wouldnāt DARE say that out loud, wouldnāt be ridiculous enough to let themselves hope for it.
I think this was Aziraphale breaking the unspoken rules and acknowledging this thing they share. Him saying āI know, I see you. I hope so too.ā
"crowley rejected aziraphale" "aziraphale rejected crowley" "they rejected each other" NOBODY REJECTED ANYBODY THEY HAD INCOMPATIBLE DESIRES FOR THE FUTURE BUT THEY BOTH STILL VERY MUCH WANTED TO BE WITH THE OTHER
This is true and important and also... They both, in fact, did very much THINK that they had been rejected by the other. Which is what breaks my heart.
Not my favourite headcanon, but I love the angst potential of Aziraphale wanting Crowley to be happy again, the way he was as an angel, and that's why he wants him to become an angel again.
