I want ten hundred million perfect Falsettos fanfictions delivered to me RIGHT NOW
Man, even though ive known and accepted that queer characters dont generally get happy endings, I was really, really holding out hope for Aziraphale and Crowley. And now I just feel stupid for wishing that maybe, just this once, a queer couple would be allowed to be happy, and selfish in choosing that happiness, and to love each other openly.
They were just two idiots who wanted to get off work early and go and have lunch, ffs.
The Voices*.
Racism in fandom spaces is actually insanely bad and if you ever try to downplay or avoid conversations about it because "fandom is supposed to be fun" then I'm not sorry to say this: You're adding on to the problem.
If POC speaking up about a fandom's racism issue offends you more than the racism itself, you need to think about that. You need to think about how POC fighting racism offends you more than the racism.
Apathy is the death of humanity, the sibling of hatred, and the child of PRIVILEGE. It must be so nice seeing discourse about racism as an inconvenience ruining your fun. Imagine having to actually LIVE within a racist system, and see evidence perpetuating that system everywhere you go, even in fandom spaces. Imagine how inconvenienced us racial minorities are--trying to speak up about oppression & discrimination & exploitation within media projecting subliminal or explicit messages that shape and mold the minds of audiences by triggering emotional responses based on LIVED experiences & dynamics--as you and all of your supporters gaslight everyone into thinking it's no big deal, it's not that deep, it's not about race, we're just sucking the fun out of the fandom. Imagine how much fun we're having being told our feelings & struggles & lives don't matter! Gosh, ignorance sure is bliss!
remember how Terry Pratchett used to write little New Year's resolutions for Aziraphale?? does anyone have these?? 😭
incidentally, the notion of an ageless immortal being committing to something like New Year's resolutions so perfectly encapsulates what Good Omens is all about. what could be flimsier, more subjective, more human than accounting for who you are now--and who you might become in one trip-round-the-sun?
Good Omens is about the ephemera of being human: lignin-infested shelves and James Bond memorabilia, filigreed snuffboxes alongside stickers and potting soil and whatever pomade the barber recommended last Tuesday. it's a story that understands that all life happens in the incidentals; that stuff becomes something more for being cherished.
Crowley and Aziraphale are doggedly, determinedly materialistic. that's not a bad thing! and it's not just a part they're playing, like Gabriel in his off-the-rack suits. they're able to understand each other--to love each other--because they love the world: selfishly, joyously, materially.
glory, victory, all that jazz? they're abstracts. but love is a thing made of atoms.
this is something the S3 writers, headed by that evil man, don't acknowledge: love doesn't cave in the universe. it stores up every trifle, because those vacant wine glasses (still streaky with a long-legged red) and half-emptied teacups (tannins softened into something algal)--they're the things we share to build a life, a world, an us.
the idea of an ageless immortal being devising little nitpicky changes for himself!!! the ritual of marking time by choosing what you'll do with it!!! (and failing! and trying again! and forgetting about it all entirely until next year, when you try again!!!)
I guess what I'm trying to say is, remembering how Terry saw these characters--how he set them loose in the world--makes me so happy. it reminds me that part of why I love Good Omens is that it makes me want to be a better person--a hopeful person.
this blue marble is the best of all possible worlds for being ours. there's so much I want to do; not all of it will come to pass, and not all of it should. but isn't it wonderful, getting to try?
If you EVER think Anthony Head is anything less than an angel then you’d best remember that I have always been a huge fan of his and we’ve always had a little contact over the years and he heard I’d come out as Trans and was having a hard time and that I was kind of sad that the photos I had from conventions with him were of me with long hair and no binder and they were all signed to “Sarah” and so he invited me to spend the day with him at his farm and he picked me up from the station and we just hung out and had lunch and he insisted on paying and took loads of photos and had them printed on photo paper the same day so he could sign them to Jay, along with other photos of him as Giles and Uther and he literally spent five hours chatting with me and got all of the pronoun stuff right every time and then he dropped me off at the station, gave me a final massive hug, waved me through the ticket barrier and insisted I message him when I got home so he knew I got back safe. Feel like now is a good time to remind people of this.

i lied put your clothes back on. i’m going to explain to you how the entirety of a series of unfortunate events was meant to explain the foster care system to young children and how mr. poe symbolizes every adult who doesn’t believe abused children and instead falls for the facades that the abuser puts on in order to maintain a sense of innocence
Screw everyone who wants you to give up, this world is worth saving
