I don’t know, once I let myself be a snob, who’s to say that I won’t want to stop being one? I think snobby Inez won’t be as fun to be around as normal Inez. We’ll just stick to the ground, how about that. If I’m your backpack still and you manage to fly off the ground, I wouldn’t do so well with the heights.

Be as that may, girl, I should have a shit ton of experience under my belt to know when something not right is transpiring in my general vicinity. The signs, the little nuances, it’s as bad as turning a blind eye and now too much time has past that it’s too little, too late. I’m telling you, kid, this world’s weight is on a sheriff’s shoulders these days. It would make me feel better, honestly. Washer and dryer’s in the basement with the basket ready for use and everything.

I can’t imagine the feeling, at least not as a Sheriff. I wouldn’t be able to do half of the things you do. Knowing me, I’d probably let people get away with murder if they give me a sad enough story. Joel, you’re making this a really hard deal to pass up.

Honestly? I’ll obviously offer help to anyone I think doesn’t necessarily ask for it openly, but I have this soft spot for the kids in this town. I’m not always successful in keeping them as safe as I thought, hell, just discovered that recently. So, I’m hoping if I help you, I start to make up for my mistake.

I see. I don’t think you failed as badly as you think you did, you’re your own worst critic. Everyone is good at hiding things if they really want to and, even if you’re the sheriff, bad things are still going to happen; that doesn’t mean it’s your fault or that you failed. But, if it makes you feel at least a little better, then I think I will stay with you. As long as you have a washer and dryer in house, I’m tired of lugging my dirty laundry blocks to the laundromat.

Well, some people would say that me staying with a random man, no matter if they’re police or not, is more brave than staying in a questionable motel room. Why do you want to help me so bad? Not that I’m questioning your intentions, I’m just curious.

If I let every possible scenario scare me, then I wouldn’t be able to travel like I am. I’ll... think about it? If I do, would you at least let me help pay for utilities or something?

Yeah, sweetheart, I’m going to go ahead and stop you right there. I know creepy old Louis who runs the motel and I can’t in good conscience allow you to stay another night there. I’ve got an extra guest room you can have until you’ve saved up enough for your own place if you want it.

I’ve been staying there with no issue before... I wouldn’t want to put you out like that, plus wouldn’t it look weird for you? Taking in a random vagabond is bound to turn some heads.

There you go, granting mercy to me for the second day in a row. I could use my own personal heating pad to snuggle next to while my least favorite season’s hitting hard.

Look at you keeping a tally, but one of these days you’ll grant me mercy, I feel it. I don’t know how very warm I’d be, though, I’m a very small heating pad but you could always carry me around like a backpack.
