Judging by the rapid heartbeat and sweat that had begun falling down the girls face, it was very possible. “He’s not much better.” Aria commented. The male was also shaking with eyes much like a deer in headlights. “Fan of the screamers, Christian?” She teased.

“That would be dull,” the vampire pointed out. He would rather the dramatics and a good scene than he would anything else. “I’m a fan of a good show.” He watched the first pull the trigger only for there to be a click which seemed to spook the pair enough. They looked horrified. “So close.”

“She’ll get some peace, sure, but it won’t change the fact that she’s dead. She’s still going to be wandering there, alone, for eternity. I can’t change that. I can’t bring her back forever.” She had to be truthful on this. She’d seen people’s hopes get up when they see an old loved one and that burden on Melody alone? The weight she carried was already breaking her back.

“You can give her the benefit of hearing what I have to say. She didn’t deserve to die the way she did.” Melody didn’t know but that didn’t stop him from putting some blame. Weren’t people with those gifts meant to help? He felt like this was the opposite.

“Thanks.” Heidi started walking with him. “I’m okay. I don’t think I’m…” She tried to think how to phrase what she needed to say because she didn’t entirely know herself. “They kept injecting me with something. Something to make me weaker. Not vervain. I’m basically still human other than needing blood and hearing heartbeats.” She tried to dull down the extent of everything in her head. Really, she was scared that this feeling human part wouldn’t last forever and she’d suddenly get hit with everything all at once.

“Another reason they need to be stopped. They can’t keep doing this to people.” Not people he cared for. He cared for very little and the fact Heidi had suddenly been dragged into everything was a new frustration. “At least they didn’t turn you.” That was one plus, but he certainly wouldn’t wish any of it upon her regardless.

“Nothing.” didn’t sound that simple, but it was. As fair as her own knowledge extended, anyway. She had no reason to lie to him and he’d know that. “He doesn’t remember anything.” she was sure the vampire would be smart enough to connect that dot. She had thought it for a while, but it wasn’t her business. Not the drama that surrounded Mateo, anyway. “Guess the big bosses don’t want him anymore.” another assumption, but his boss was a Silva, so it wasn’t that surprising. “Fair exchange?” she then asked, meaning can she have the card now?

Christian adsorbed the information and put things together on his own. It put an interesting new twist on things. Perhaps that was even the easy way out in the vampire’s eyes. “Fair exchange,” he agreed and handed over the card. She had done her part the same as he had done his. No sense in withholding.

“Augustine didn’t end with Whitmore.” It was all she was really going to say on the matter. He could imagine, he’d been through all of that. “My house.” She was definitely going to neglect telling him about the four others scattered from where she started to her house but she had to deal with the one in her house in case anyone came knocking.

“Fuck. Well I’ll help you.” It was more of a stated fact. Of all people he wouldn’t turn down Heidi if she needed the assistance in being what she was now. No one understood it perfectly to start. He nodded and began the walk back that way. “How are you adjusting?”

“And I don’t trust you to take my word when I say you’re killing me.” She crossed her arms to try and look stronger but quite clearly failing. “So why should I allow it to happen again?” Knowing that she had the power in this situation, she didn’t feel as scared of him now. He was desperate.

“I haven’t seen her in ages. I haven’t gotten to apologize or explain how hard I tried to get her back. She’s in the dark somewhere alone and terrified. She deserves to be given some peace.” It was the only time he showed such depth of emotion really. His concern reached to Heidi sure, but this woman meant everything once upon a time.

Heidi was definitely not arguing about going outside. It was a safer place for her to be she figured. So she silently followed, holding on to his hand and stopped when they were outside. She knew he had very quickly worked out what she was so at least she didn’t need to tell him that much. “You know how to get rid of a body?” She had made sure no one was around to actually hear her.

“What happened to you? I’ve been trying to find you,” Christian interjected first. Her inquiry raised no alarm for him. Newborn vampire’s were dangerous and at best not the sort you left to run rampant on their own. “Silly question. Where’s the body?”

“Okay.” she didn’t have a reason to think he was lying, so she believed him. “I found out why that agent acts like he knows nothing, about the experiments and the whole shit that comes with it.” this was all based off of her own assumptions from a number of conversations she had had with Mateo, as well as the one she had with Shawn when he took her home after being in jail. “He’s not pretending to save his own ass, like you think.” she briefly paused, waiting to hear whether or not he knew this, before she continued.

“Then what is he doing? I’d be interested to know.” Mateo had become a thorn lodged in the vampire’s side for ages now it seemed. He only asked for help on the one occasion now and even that left a bitter taste in his mouth.

It was difficult walking in to a bar full of people which is what kept her from fully walking in originally. She stood in the doorway looking around for anyone she knew when she spotted Christian at the bar. The only way she knew from the back was the height and his usual style. She managed to make her way behind him and just stopped and froze for a moment. The heartbeats she could hear was excruciating that she couldn’t imagine what a normal vampire heard. “Hey.”

Drinking was habit. It consumed the memories and dulled the pain but only for a little. Things had been rocky despite the advantage once gained. He downed another round though it barely did anything to drunken him. The familiar face caused the vampire to whirl around in the bar stool in shock. For weeks he had been searching for her. Digging for answers. Hell he even went to Mateo. “Heidi?” His face was riddled with confusion and concern as he stood up and rested his hands on her shoulders. A definite sign of something wrong was obvious and the silence in place of a heartbeat was deafening. “Let’s go outside,” he suggested while he slid a hand down her arm gently to instead grasp her hand and lead her away from the crowds.

“You don’t strike me as a man who would consider himself anything but.” Lucy chose to call him a man and not a vampire because much like her brother, she attempted an open mind even in the face of potential monsters. Christian had spoken of his ill behaviour but she hadn’t seen it for herself and therefore, wasn’t dumb enough to try and take him on especially knowing he could beat her. Besides, these days? She was all for seeking thrills and he knew of one she was particularly interested in. “Will you show me? I wouldn’t mind competing if what you say is true.” Lucy nodded. “I haven’t lost a race yet.” She shrugged. Sure, five years of winning may be absolutely nothing in comparison to the potential decades he had on her, but she didn’t care. Racing, money, the adrenalin? She wanted in.

“I’m not lying. You’ll figure out I don’t usually lie about anything.” He would tell the truth in most cases even if it was a hard truth no one wanted to hear. Why sugar coat things? Life never did. “I can show you though. Kind of curious to see how you race. Maybe we’ll have a go together.” He wanted to see her skills and that intrigued him more than the chaos he had originally schemed in his mind. The violent images were only quelled by the fact she was proving interesting.

“Said every man ever.” Not that she was an exception. Who didn’t enjoy an ego boost? At least he was seemingly the fun kind of arrogant, she didn’t mind. Her body turned on the seat to follow his movements and a smile spread across her face when she saw him picking up the gun. Not that she was surprised, he hadn’t held back before, why would now be any different? There were only a few people in the bar, it would be easy enough to stop them leaving when the time called for it. “Hm,” Aria tipped her head towards him as he spoke, lifting a hand up to gently clasp around his wrist. “My bet’s on the blonde.”

Christian glanced at whom Aria chose and gave a hum of agreement. “She does seem like a chicken. She probably won’t even try to help herself.” Seeing the struggle against the compulsion was always half the fun. The pain it caused to fight back so much when they should have simply given in and been done with it. Why not? “I say she’ll scream and die in fear.” How enjoyable he thought.

Her legs were shaking from the weakness in her body and the tiredness was creeping in to her. “I’d prefer if we didn’t.” It was a little bit of sass but she meant it. The last thing she wanted was to see him again.

“You can hold it for a while and not die,” Christian reasoned. “So yeah you will do it again. Even if it’s once. Are we clear?” He couldn’t let go of something that valuable to him. She was a asset in the best of ways. Anne-Marie didn’t have to be in the dark anymore. He could talk to her. Explain why he wasn’t there. Explain how he tried everything.

Capisce?’’ He wasn’t about to allow Christian to order him around. Mateo didn’t even know if what Christian said was true, the vampire could be simply making up a story, he could be lying.

“I don’t give a shit who you’re doing it for. Find her.” Christian took a step back now the had said his peace. He had what he wanted in the end. “You’ll let me know when I ask.” He left it there as he figured that was all the civility that would be shared.

* “Kol Mikaelson.” He introduced himself but rather to the point than a charming introduction he would usually give. “Whatever you know about Heidi’s whereabouts would be very useful right now and let me phrase it this way, you would be much better with an Original by you side than no one.”

“Alright..” Christian wouldn’t argue an Original. Even he knew when to bite his tongue. “She helped with a bit of an escape plan for someone. Not sure if you know but shes been nose deep in the Augustine business lately. I figure that’s who has her because we all came out of the building to leave and Heidi was gone. Haven’t heard from her since. When I checked my accounts yesterday all of her money given to her by them was in my account. Obviously a fail safe.”

“It’d be pretty funny if it wasn’t.” she soon walked closer towards him, eyes looking at the card in his hand, having an urge to reach out and take it, but she didn’t. She knew he’d only snatch it away, because she hadn’t come through for him on her end yet. She knew a couple of things, but she wouldn’t be telling him both. It was a simple trade, one small thing for another small detail. “And I’m assuming you didn’t hurt him..”

“Of course I didn’t. We argued but that was the ploy to get the ID.” Christian had delivered on his end but he was awaiting hers. Getting the thing wasn’t that hard but it didn’t mean he liked doing favors too often. “Your turn.”

“Maybe if you stick around long enough,” Christian told her cryptically while he headed for the hellmouth. He probably caused too much trouble there to show his face again, but he didn’t care.
