“The programmers have decided to write their own engine.”
i’ve been thinking a LOT about what would happen if certain formative titles in the games industry had a different influential basis or different experience it wished to represent, while still proving just as successful
the industry is known for building off the backs of other games (as with any popular media, really, with other influential works), so it makes me think one of the key ways of discovering new territory in mechanical design lies in going back and reexamining the conditions which brought key titles to development and then changing those conditions in small ways that prove to be foundationally substantial
Reminds me of Raph Koster watching Sword Art Online and musing about how different that show would have turned out if early MMOs had made different design decisions...

A book frequently quoted in this encyclical is Romano Guardini’s The End of the Modern World. Pope Francis has long been interested in and influenced by Guardini, who was also a major influence on Benedict XVI. If I had my way, I’d spend the next couple of months preparing to teach a class in which this encyclical — a far richer work than I had expected it to be, and one that I hope will have lasting power — would be read alongside Guardini’s book, with both accompanied by repeated viewings of Mad Max: Fury Road. The class would be called “Who Killed the World?”

REBLOG IF YOU'RE AN ARTIST!!!
Professional or not, no matter what art style, I wanna see how many artists are out there.
Being an artist doesn’t mean you are restricted to drawing, painting, and sculpting!
If you can write, sing, dance, or take photos, you are an artist! If you are good at math, science, language arts, or putting things together, you are an artist!
Whatever it is, if you enjoy it, it is your medium! You are an artist in that field!

Hello! I have started my own patreon account - if you have been enjoying the “premium pixel art content” that I have been laying down, please consider join the throngs of happy, satisfied patrons. And if you cant? THAT IS ALSO OK.
no guilt here friend :)
On that note, DFW doesn’t need anymore rain. I wish it would stop but there is like nonstop rain in the forecast for next week.
DFW is doomed.
Doomed.
God looked down at this and said ‘nope.’

PLUTO 2015
NASA
I AM SCREAMING OH MY GOODNESS
OH MY GOD DO YOU GUYS UNDERSTAND HOW AMAZING THIS IS I HAVE BEEN READING ASTRONOMY BOOKS FOR YEARS AND EVERYTIME THERE’S JUST A PIXELLY BLUR FOR PLUTO NOT ANYMORE. NEVER AGAIN.
Note that those pictures are an artist’s concept renders. (More concepts here: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/newhorizons/images/index.html and here: http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/profile.cfm?Object=Pluto&Display=Gallery)
New Horizons is definitely something to get excited about, though, because on May 15th it’s scheduled to get close enough to have a better resolution of Pluto than Hubble. It’s only going to get better after that, so you get to watch in real-time as we learn what Pluto looks like up close. The closest flyby will be on July 14th, so mark your calendar.
Here’s a photo taken April 15th:
Here’s a GIF of Pluto’s moons up through the 1st:
Have you heard about “P.T.” ? Back in the early days of the Playstation 4 an unknown games company released a free downloadable game which was only available for a short amount of time, only to delete it and scrub all mentions of it a short time later. There are only a few machines with the game installed on it still left, but they’re jealously guarded and go for a high price.
You had to go through an endless loop of the same household corridor, ever descending, as you try and solve the mystery of the murder that happened there. The house gets more and more unsettling as you progress, continually haunted by the specter of the murder victim called Lisa and her unborn child, but every time you die you just end up in the basement at the start of the same corridor.
Eventually, the game itself starts to glitch out and talk to you, with radio messages telling you sequences of numbers and secrets about another world leaking into ours. At the end of the game, after following some arbitrary steps involving speaking into your micrphone, a telephone lets you know that you have been “chosen” and the door leading outside is unlocked.
Once you beat the game, it is revealed that the whole thing was a short demo for another, larger game, with the backing of the gaming branch of a large company called “Konami”. However, the game was canceled shortly after and everybody involved with it fired. Shortly after that, Konami left the gaming market entirely with no explanation. There were rumors of a series of murders connected to the game, but nothing was ever conclusively proven…
Standard Art Print Sizes (in & px)
4” x 6” (600 pixels x 900 pixels) 5” x 7” (750 pixels x 1050 pixels) 6” x 6” (900 pixels x 900 pixels) 8” x 10” (1200 pixels x 1500 pixels) 8.5” x 11” (1275 pixels x 1650 pixels) 11” x 14” (1650 pixels x 2100 pixels) 12” x 12” (1800 pixels x 1800 pixels) 12” x 16” (1800 pixels x 2400 pixels) 16” x 20” (2400 pixels x 3000 pixels) 18” x 24” (2700 pixels x 3600 pixels) 19” x 13” (2850 pixels x 1950 pixels) 20” x 24” (3000 pixels x 3600 pixels) 24” x 24” (3600 pixels x 3600 pixels) 12” x 36” (1800 pixels x 5400 pixels) 24” x 36” (3600 pixels x 5400 pixels)
Um, other people have pointed this out, but those are 150 dpi (dots per inch) sizes. Standard print resolution is 300 dpi. High-resolution giclee prints can go much denser (there are printers that do 1800 dpi and above). If you want to find the right number of pixels, multiply the desired dpi by the inches (so a 4″ x 6″ = 4*300 x 6*300 = 1200 x 1800 pixels).
There’s some other complications, since printing a digital image always has some translation issues, but those are the basics.

Hey Spoonies! Let's play a game!
Reblog this post and add the most ridiculous thing a person has told you to do that will “cure” you of your illness(es).
I’ll start! Someone once told me to have my appendix removed because it would make my GERD go away.
a 2 week lemon juice cleanse
Flaxseed tea 3x a day
Only drinking juiced vegetables for the rest of my life
Just get pregnant it will be like a break.
My Mother in Law said I should gain weight and that would cure my back pain. Also, my first rheumy told me “dance around the house”
Act like you don’t have it and it will go away just like that!!
Just point your foot out and eventually it will stay that way! (I have cerebral palsy and my foot points in due to my spasticity.)
Yoga! This was the day I got out of the hospital for neurosugery.
A teaspoon of honey will make my pain “tolerable”.
Apparently all of my pain will go away if I just start going to church.
same, pray the sick away, oh and someone went ‘oh you know I have this friend of a friend who went to some holistic place in New Mexico or was it Arizona and it cured their kid of cancer. It will totally cure you’ I have SLE
Take this specific type of mushroom that grows only in Japan to cure the nerve damage caused by your genetic, neurological disorder. Also, pray for a miracle!
That I should have my dental fillings removed. I kind of doubt that fixing cavities can cause genetic disorders decades in the past.
