What if instead of abandoning everyone Steve was captured by the TVA and the premise was him and Loki teaming up

(You don't know because you can't see me but I just sighed happily after reading this, imagining how wonderful a story like that would be 😜)

The TVA and Mobius represent everything Steve despises: he was quite clear to Fury in TWS that "everything goes", not just Hydra but Shield as well. For him 'following orders' is no more than an excuse and just like he wouldn't have sanctioned Operation Paperclip and the hiring of Zola, he wouldn't give a damn about Mobius' excuses or all that crap about protecting the sacred timeline. These people are destroying entire universes? Capturing innocents? Torturing them? They would have pruned him in an instant.

But assuming he managed to escape somehow... damn, it would be so cool if the only person he saw in the TVA that he could recognize was Loki and he had to team up with him somehow. We would have post-EG Steve faced with The Avengers-Loki, the Loki who doesn't know this Steve knows about Thanos.

And while we're at it, how about Steve finds some tapes from the time he was frozen and he can watch the stuff Agent Brexit and Howard Stark did in Shield. That would make him change his mind about going back. Perhaps he and Loki could talk about power and ruling and how much that can corrupt someone.

I do believe they would see eye to eye in a lot of things, but perhaps I'm a little biased 😂 And how fun would it be to see them fighting off then cooling down then actually talking a bit then becoming friends? They had something...

It never stops amazing me just how much Waldron doesn't understand Loki in the slightest. That fundamental does not get it. Loki was never someone who lacked self awareness and so many of his issues was wrapped in his self doubt. Waldron wants Loki to hate himself, that's it. That is what the "Self-Reflection" is. It's Loki being showed his mistakes and told he did bad things because he's inherently bad.

Mikey claims he wants Loki to reflect on his actions when the truth is that mirror's only purpose is to blame him for everything that happened in his past just so that the actions of his family + what Thanos did to him can be swept under the rug. That's not self-reflection, that's gaslighting (he's told his family loved him which is basically a new version of the "imagined slights" in The Avengers) and victimization (he's blamed for NYC like it was all his doing and told he had Frigga killed).

And the worst part is that too many people think this is what "therapy" looks like. They think being told that you're a terrible person, not being allowed to explain why you did things and having a person of authority hurt you emotionally is "healing", they genuinely think this is what taking responsibility is supposed to look like.

Loki needed to take responsibility for his actions? Sure, although the worst thing he ever did was try to destroy Jotunheim, not invade NYC. But sure, he needed to own it. Fine. Being tortured, beaten, and emotionally abused is NOT taking responsibility.

Also, it's kind of telling that Mikey thinks the TVA is in any way entitled to hold the moral ground here. They want Loki to look in the mirror? How many mirrors does the TVA need to face what they have done? How many mirrors does Mobius need? They better save some for Sylvie as well. It's unbelievable: a bunch of fascists want Loki to take responsibility? Don't make me laugh.

And once again the show contradicts itself, bcs Loki is perfectly capable of self-reflection when he tells Mobius that he doesn’t enjoy hurting people, he does it bcs he’s afraid of appearing weak. This is an insight that Loki comes up with on his own; it’s not something that Mobius told him. He knows what he’s done, and he knows why he did it. In fact, berating Loki for his supposed evil deeds is pointless. According to the show’s logic, He Who Remains decided exactly how Loki’s life would play out. Anytime Loki chose to do something different, he would have produced an alternate timeline, which the TVA would have pruned. So Loki was doomed to villainy; whenever he deviated from his preordained path, his variant would be killed. It’s like they’re saying “Shame on you, you did exactly what we made you do!” I mean, it doesn’t make any kind of sense.

I'd rather have a thousand "OHMIGOD WE WERE RIGHT!!!" theory confirmed moments where due to good storytelling and foreshadowing the audience was able to figure out parts of the future plot than just one more stupid twist that makes no narrative sense to avoid being "predictable".

If people knowing anything about your plot spoils the show entirely maybe it's just no good lmao.

It's not worth ruining your narrative themes and character integrity just so everyone is shocked. Sometimes twists that have been guessed .... Are better.
