I’m I missing something? Because it just reads to me as if she’s saying she’s hornier when she’s on her period than not, which is fairly common for a lot of people. Kinda feels like reading way too much into this but I also don’t use tik tok so I can’t say if people are actually saying ovulation = human heat or if people are intentionally misreading women’s posts about being horny on their period as some kind of biologically essentialist statement about women being uncontrollably sexual. It’s the internet, both possibilities are equal.
i think, as someone whose just experienced this strange microtrend on instagram, that they’re commentating moreso on an overarching uptick in videos like this.
I could sort of compare it to “girl dinner” how it began as a sort of inside joke, in which the original posters were self aware, and were just generally more horny, but as this joke has caught on it’s somewhat amalgamated itself into people genuinely making this strange ovulation=heat argument. i wish i could find screenshots or clips but some of these posts have people actually making that argument in the comments as people push back on it

The USA sends more Christian missionaries than other top 5 nations combined, and spends more on its militaries than other top 5 nations combined. It is the only country to vote against lifting the blockade on Cuba that it has been keeping up for decades, among other human rights resolutions it keeps voting against in the name of "we should be able to do what we want." It is a nation with a mindset of a toddler holding dangerous weapons that it has show. willingness to use. Even by their flawed definition and application of the term, the USA is a uniquely bad entity on the global stage.

the thing that drives me up the wall about “anti/proship” discourse is that it frames grooming as like, primarily an ideological practice in which the threat is that kids will “think adult/minor relationships are morally ok”. which sure maybe that happens idfk but the thing is that grooming is in practical almost entirely divorced from ideology and is so much more about individual exceptionalism… which I think is especially true for fandom-aged demographics! these aren’t kids who are just freshly learning the basics of right and wrong, most of them probably already generally know what pedophilia is and think it’s bad, it’s just that they’re also particularly susceptible to individualized attention that makes them feel uniquely special and mature.

I don’t know. it’s just incredibly frustrating to see people continually talking about CSA like it only happens because the perpetrators and victims believe pedophilia is morally permissible rather than because they think that their own personal circumstances exonerate them and make it uniquely acceptable and not harmful.
it is overwhelmingly my experience that kids and teens who met and then “dated” adult partners struggle to think of themselves as victims of CSA because for whatever reason it just didn’t count—not when it was them. they were too precocious, they had too much agency, their abuser didn’t mean any harm, and what would have been a terrible criminal travesty if it had happened to anyone else was just a weird but understandable fluke situation that they brought upon themselves.
sort of related—lots of kids do not actually see themselves as children. a child who sees themself as mature, different, and sensitive to condescension is not going to Identify As A Child™️ and will hold themself to (what they think is) an adult standard. any effort to protect them that relies upon their seeing themself as A Child™️ and accepting their status as a being of lesser agency is doomed to fail. and I think that’s true whether they’re punished or rewarded for their apparent maturity because any kid who perceives being a child as a bad thing is… well. they’re right. to be a child is to be a second-class citizen with very limited rights who is, functionally, private property. any child who becomes consciously aware of this will be traumatized by it and I don’t think that Good Parenting will ever fully prevent that. so of course they’re not going to conceptualize themselves as victims of CSA because CSA can, by definition, only happen to real children.

I don't have a problem with people listening to music per se, but I do have a problem with the music industry exploiting & mistreating artists.
Personally, I abstain from all music in order to keep my hands clean but really music should just be illegal outright to protect musicians from abuse.

Y’all know that I’m into ancient Roman history and I do a lot of research on it but even though I should be used to it by now sometimes I read an anecdote about how an individual slave was treated and I’m hit with the realization that like a third of the population was living like that and I just need to put my head in my hands for a second
Emperor Hadrian randomly stabbed a slave in the eye in a fit of rage and he was supposedly unusually sympathetic to slaves.
There’s other instances of people randomly punching slaves that they didn’t even know because they got in their way or something. This was just normal behavior.
And slaves didn’t rebel en masse because if even one slave committed an act of violent rebellion it was common practice to kill every slave and former slave in the household.
People only took notice for posterity when these mass executions got into the hundreds of people. One of the few recorded for the history books is of over 400 people being killed because one guy stabbed his enslaver.
Like how many people throughout history were beaten to death because some rich asshole was angry and there was no legal or social consequences for doing so? We don’t know.
When you study ancient history you’re reminded that slavery has never once been kind or justified. It just takes on different forms of evil in every time and place that it infects.
Lurking under this is also the fact that most Roman mining operations were done by slaves in conditions that were far more brutal than those of household slaves, to the point that sending a slave to the mines is a threat I’ve read leveraged multiple times in separate texts
also Rome’s slavery is considered chattel slavery.
