Dear Van Gogh truly was a beautiful voyage. As someone who has been fascinated by past painters and Vincent Van Gogh in particular since I was a child, this is really well made. I wasn’t expecting it to be this great, I'm quite impressed and pleased. I have to admit I did cry (and not just a bit, be aware that I am strangely sensitive at rare moments).
I have to praise many different aspects, such as the artistic one, they have well rendered the beauty of Vincent Van Gogh's painting into 3D, the sketch and painting effects, if I was scared of the results in game, looked spectacular. Some times the painting quests were not so clear about how much was left to do but that’s a really small detail I can certainly neglect and that doesn’t affect much the experience.
For the story, I personally love the way they put it, sometimes presenting events with a different approach can really make a difference and make a bigger impact. That being said, I am not mad that they didn’t show, for example, his suicide the traditional way. I believe the crows make a great metaphor for his incertitudes, problems and more. I'm certain that some might criticize some parts of his life being neglected, less explored, I believe what was shown was nice and different than most other presentations. I admire that they included Johanna, not many works include or even mention her, yet, in this case she is presents to us the paintings just like she did once she inherited them. To me, it was a beautiful way to end the story, not with Vincent dying, but also showing Théodore by his side that day, then his death, and then Johanna's grief and deciding the world has to see paintings and letters.
Once again, I was deeply moved by this whole experience and how much care was put into it.
