I know you only wanted to know about Lucas but this was really interesting to think about and I kind of got carried away haha 😅 Feel free to ignore my ramble, but IMO this is the main party + Vecna (as someone who has a novice understanding of chess):

Mike is a knight because he is the party’s paladin (a bit on the nose I guess but oh well)

El is a queen because queens have the most power/ability in terms of direction and amount of movement per turn, she’s one of the key pieces on the board.

Will is a pawn due to him being seen as weak and expendable by others including Vecna and being literally used as a pawn in Vecna’s plans, but also because if pawns reach the other side of the board they can also become queens and become powerful.

Vecna is a king because he is the most important piece, if you destroy him the game ends. Kings also can’t physically move much (in the same way that Vecna mostly stays in his lair and reaches victims with his mind) so each move made has to be very calculated.

Max is a rook because she’s the party’s “zoomer” and also travels far into Vecna’s mind- rooks can go long distances across the board and get close to the opponent’s king.

Which leaves Lucas and Dustin. Tbh I struggled the most with them and I’m not 100% on this answer but I think they’re both bishops. Firstly because bishops move diagonally staying on one colour only, with one on light squares and one on dark squares, which could represent the way both Lucas and Dustin can be opinionated and have black-and-white thinking, usually at odds with what the other thinks (e.g season 1 with Lucas not liking El and Dustin more neutral, season 4 with Lucas on the basketball team initially against Eddie vs Dustin in hellfire helping Eddie, and season 5 where they argue about Dustin restarting hellfire and acting reckless). Lucas is also a bishop because he and Max are opposites in a lot of ways, they argue a lot and in season 4 and 5 are separated whether emotionally with their break up or mentally with Max’s coma, but each time they find their way back to each other- to me this is like how rooks can only move straight and bishops can only move diagonally so they’re often separated, but there are some squares where they can come together.

Anyway those are just my thoughts!

★ Enoch - Forensic Pathologist.

★ Horace - makes bespoke clothing and partners with modeling agencies.

★ Hugh - Supplier of honey and ale (mead).

★ Fiona - A supplier of vegetables and fruits/will open a chain of flower shops.

★ Emma - private investigator (PI).

★ Jacob - took over the family business/threw caution to the wind and sought out peculiar children who needed help.

★ Bronwyn - Physical education teacher / coach for multiple sport/teaches self-defense classes.

So how have we been pronouncing Horace’s surname?

Obviously Somnusson breaks down into Somnus + Son, Somnus being the personification of sleep in Roman mythology, and Horace as a prophetic dreamer being named for this makes sense when we look at how many of the other Peculiars are also named based on abilities.

But.

How do we say it? Cause I’ve always done it like “som-nuss-on” but just now it’s occurred to me that others might read it like all the other -son names, Johnson, Jackson, etc…

Okay this is kind of blowing my mind because I subconsciously assumed everyone pronounced it the same way as me but I am only now realising that my way actually makes no sense 😅

I pronounce the end like Johnson except I say SOM-nyoo-son with stress on the Som part

The nyoo instead of noo is an Australian/British English pronunciation thing, I’m pretty sure it’s called yod-retention vs yod-dropping so to me that’s not that weird

But I knew his surname had Somnus in it so idk why it would be a nyoo/noo sound in the first place??? Or why I never questioned that pronunciation??

Anyway don’t mind me I’m just having an existential crisis over here lol

Thanks to the story "Before You Know It," which awakened a full spectrum of emotions in me and entered my lineup of best reads (a list that only includes two works!), I returned to the fandom. I think that if we ever got a spin off of MPHFPC, it should be about Enoch before the loops.

Because not only does Enoch have such a cool sounding back story that we only really got glimpses into, but he was also alive when the Hollows were first created.

And if we wanted to mix book cannon, and say that he was born in 1892, and movie cannon, where he is supposedly 16, Enoch would have been the right age during 1908.

Think of a Spin off, where, not only do we get to see Enochs past ( old Loopmates, old Ymbryne, all that stuff) but we also see how he and the other children of that time dealt with such a dangerous new threat.

It may sound a bit like the plot of the actual books and movie, but in those, they all had an idea of what they were going up against.

In this they would have no clue, and would have to depend on trial and error to survive.

I personally think it would be cool.

Friendship Headcannons I have about mphfpc:

1) Fiona & Enoch. I've talked about them before, but in my mind these two are best friends and have been so for like a century. They almost never talk but they somehow managed to know everything about everyone in that house.

2) Enoch & Hugh: These two are like, peak annoying brothers in my head. They bicker constantly and have thrown each other of the stairs at least one time each but if you say anything but about the other, then either a swarm of bees or a gangle of homunculi will get you.

(In general, Hugh, Fiona and Enoch are the living embodiment of the whole "I'm not the third wheel, I'm their child" trend)

3) Hugh & Claire: Hugh is Claire's honorary older brother and Hugh takes that role very seriously. He has taken part in multiple tea parties and has said the words: "Yes, I'm Princess Genevieve Anastasia Victoria Pinkbow" in a 100% serious voice. I also could totally see Claire becoming the godmother to Hugh and Fiona's kid down the line, if they ever have any.

4) Fiona & Jake: After reading tDoDA, these two have just become the ultimate bros in my mind. If they were in an ordinary highschool they would've been getting high together while skipping class and planned the ultimate senior prank.

5) Enoch & Emma: Common misconception but Enoch wasn't wary of Jake because he liked Emma, it was because he is that one friend that trashes his friends' exes like it is a full time job. He couldn't get over what Abe had done and he might've had cursed his entire bloodline at some point so Jake was an immediate no from him.

6) Millard & Horace: They basically just bond over thinking that they are better than everyone else and then get into fights about which one of them is better, and the cycle goes on.

7) Bronwyn & Horace: She's the older sister he never had. They constantly hype each other up and she has given an in depth shovel talk to Enoch as a warning. They will sometimes sit together and make new clothes out of the old and worn out ones.

8) Olive & Ricky: Olive honestly just thinks that Ricky is very cool, in that "child who sees an alt person for the first time" type of way. Ricky has just accepted it and is teaching her his ways. He also thinks that her shoes are the most metal thing ever (Ha!).
