It's just so frustrating that the mere mention of "incest" raises huge alarms in most peoples' minds.
Like, if you stop and think about it logically, its easy to recognize that consanguiphobia is bullshit bigotry. It's as simple as recognizing eugenicist and puritanical language. All very simple stuff that your average leftist can comprehend in other contexts no problem.
But the problem is that consanguiphobia is so deeply ingrained in all of us. We are told it's wrong by our elders from the first moment we say, as children, we want to marry our family members because we love them so much. We're bombarded with propaganda, shown those offspring of families which are the most extreme examples, and told "Look how ugly and horrifying they are!" as though that means they are not even people. As though they cannot possibly live fulfilling lives like that. As if its even a remotely common outcome from consang relationships. We're even shown them as villains, horror movies so readily present incest associated with cannibalism, and Game of Thrones made very sure to show the Starks as the non-incestuous good guys, and the Lannisters as incestuous villains. By the time we're old enough to even conceive of a real relationship, the door on consang has been so thoroughly shut most of us can never reopen it.
And so when someone does mention it, when someone does dare to say "Hey, maybe its worth examining this stigma, and asking who it actually harms", nobody even stops to think they could be right. They spew thought-terminating cliches about Hapsburgs at best, and at worst, they harass you until you are driven out of society. But at no point do they actually think.
Because that would require confronting yourself.
a reminder that if you don't support incest,, like for reals, you should get the FUCK off my page :3
