Last Tango In Bayreuth, for 4 bassoons, by Peter Schickele. Wagner, eat your heart out!
“Human-rights movements have traditionally existed to help the voiceless and those without agency gain progressively more rights. Yet in the case of abortion, the voiceless have progressively lost rights at the hands of people who claim to be human-rights crusaders.”

A stay-at-home mom responds to those who say her Ivy League education was wasted.
As a good friend of mine puts it, people shouldn't think my desire to be a stay-at-home wife and mother isn't a free, fully-educated choice.
In which (surprise!) God answers prayers...
So, thanks be to God! Despite my whinging and whining, my despairing and despondency, He has taken care of me! The evening before my lease ran out, I got in touch with a college friend of my dad's who lives in the area, who had previously offered me a place to live. She and her husband had just returned from a month-long trip with their adopted daughter to the girl's birth country (Russia). I told her my plight, and she said, "No problem, move in tomorrow!"
So now I'm living with a wonderful, loving family in a beautiful suburb of the city of my beloved university, in a lovely neighborhood of white picket fences and hopping bunnies, in a gorgeous house with a trellis and an herb garden and an overenthusiastic, dumb, sweet, poodle-spaniel puppy named George. Glory to God in the highest. :)
A great reminder: Praise the Lord, who prepares you wisely and well, who bestows health, and accompanies you as a friend; in how much suffering has not the gracious God spread His wings over you!
And a partrige in a pear tree...?
Nine days until I'm queen of the homeless, Eight million things to do, Seven housing possibilities, Six more credits to fit in my class schedule, Five hours of organ time tomorrow (at least), Four long-term housing possibilities (of the seven above) Three short-term possibilities (again, see above), Two classes I have to take this fall scheduled at the same time, And one financial hold on my university account which won't let me register for classes.... Oh, and did I mention 15 minutes on hold with my leasing office? *whine, whine, grumble, grumble*
I know God won't give me anything I can't handle. I just wish he didn't trust me so much.
Mother Teresa Please pray that I can find a place to live in the next nine days. I'm getting pretty scared.
My True-Love Hath My Heart, by Sir Philip Sidney
My true-love hath my heart, and I have his, By just exchange one for the other given: I hold his dear, and mine he cannot miss; There never was a bargain better driven. His heart in me keeps me and him in one, My heart in him his thoughts and senses guides; He loves my heart for once it was his own; I cherish his because in me it bides. His heart his wound receivèd from my sight; My heart was wounded with his wounded heart; For as from me on him his hurt did light, So still methought in me his hurt did smart: Both equal hurt, in this change sought our bliss, My true love hath my heart and I have his.
I so want to do a cover of this at some point! Great fun! :)
Nothing concentrates a man's mind more than the prospect of being hanged in the morning.
Or, in my case, homeless in two weeks. My once and future roomie and I were two weeks away from signing a year-long lease and moving into our apartment for the next school year, when she decided to transfer to a state university half-way across country. Great for her, not so great for me... We cancelled the lease, and now I'm desperately in the process of finding a new place to live, with new roommates...exciting times.... If worse comes to worst, I'll just move into the organ case in the chapel. Or I hear that you can get really good deals on cardboard box houses these days! But really, you pray about something, it's amazing the blessings God throws your way. I've had friends inundate me with all sorts of lovely people who are looking for a roommate. :) Now, to find one that will work out...prayers, please?
For me, as long as I've been able to remember, I've wanted to either be a child, or a grown-up....the youth in between is the terrifying part...
Soul: Come, do not keep me waiting longer, come, gentle wind of heaven, blow through the garden of my heart! Holy Ghost: I shall refresh you, my child. Soul: O most beloved Love, who are so sweet, the fullness of all delight, I faint when I lack You. Holy Ghost: Take the kiss of grace from Me. Soul: Be welcome to me in faith, highest Love, come within! You have taken my heart from me. Holy Ghost: I am yours, and you are Mine!
Music, and Concerts, and Solos, Oh My!
So in a couple of weeks, I'll be singing at a concert at the beautiful cathedral where I work...it's all secular music, but is lovely nevertheless. We're a quintet, and are singing two choral pieces, and a big bunch of solos...I've got two!
I was kind of nervous going into this, as it's a quintet, so everyone has to hold their own like nobody's business, and the other two women have huge enormous Puccini-style voices. When I sing 'legit' music, I have either big low chest voice, or high, pure, boy-soprano/Judith Nelson/Emma Kirkby sound (my deeply offensive choir director once called me an "asexual transgender boy/mezzoid creature"...jerk.). The alto lines I'm singing for the choral music are *almost* low enough for me to sing and be heard with the other women. :P But I'm encouraged about my solos...I chose music that shows off my voice, and the styles fit me well enough that I don't have to compete with the other two lovely ladies in terms of style or volume. ;) I'm doing "Diaphenia" by Dominick Argento, which is very bouncy, right up my alley. I'm also singing a piece by John Ireland "My True Love Hath My Heart". Should be nice...I might even put up audio of it afterwards. :)

WHEN I BS MY WAY THROUGH A CONVERSATION ON A TOPIC OUTSIDE MY EXPERTISE
Or as Aristotle says in the Metaphysics, Book 1, Part 2, "We suppose first, then, that the wise man knows all things, as far as possible, although he has not knowledge of each of them in detail." :P
You can't really be on the internet without running into the Piano Guys, but my boyfriend really got me listening to their music. This one's pretty fun. :)
