On routine infant circumcision

Doula.
I have been considering getting my doula certification, how cool would that be? Definitely have not made the final decision but I've been looking into it a lot.
Recently, I haven’t been posted anything about circumcision, but I feel this is an excellent depiction in describing many reasons not to circumcise.
Did you know that a circumcision can interfere with breastfeeding? Not in all cases, but it happens.
Why do we have a double standard that cutting a female is illegal but yet cutting off perfectly viable skin on an infant boy isn’t?
Why do parents feel they have to make this decision for their son? Why can’t they wait until their son is old enough to decide for themselves? Isn’t that what being a parent is about? Giving our children the option to do what they want with their bodies? If they want to cut their hair, get breast implants, color their hair, etc.
Because ultimately, their penis doesn’t effect our lives as parents. It will eventually effect them and their sex life. So instead of giving them the decision to do what they want with their body, we choose to cut off a part of precious sexual nerve endings for convenience.
Great Idea!
So, since we're having cosmetic surgery (circumcision) done on baby boys so they don't get made fun of later on, we should probably start giving baby girls breast implants. You know, just in case they end up being flat chested. They could get made fun of for that too. Sorry, apparently a Facebook 'friend' got mad at me for saying that anyone who fully and accurately researches circumcision and still goes ahead with it is an idiot. She said she knew it was cosmetic and did it anyway. Then she started to say that my son was going to get made fun of. Oh, and she also compared babies dying from their circumcisions to babies dying from SIDS. It can happen to anyone! (Uhhh, no, it can't happen if you don't do it. SIDS in really not avoidable like death from circumcision is.) Let's just say I lost a Facebook friend. Oh well. More room for people who are willing to open their eyes.
