This will be a bit of a rant but people seriously need to stop using their preferences for a story as an excuse to call it bad writing. That is so utterly offensive and if we are talking about Yoneda Kou in specific, there's no fundamental evidence for that.
There is, in fact, bad writing out there, but Sensei is impeccable on how the narrative is connected by the tools chosen to convey the actions of each character accordingly. She's not an average creator.
We are free to openly disagree with the events in an ongoing story, but in this case it must be admitted that this is simply related to the outcomes being different from what was expected instead of blaming everything as bad writing. People need to swallow their frustrations and take responsibility for either that or their inability to understand what's going on in the plot.
And just to conclude: Saezuru's central theme is that "people are full of contractions".
Kamiya can have internalised homofobia and still sympathise with Doumeki.
Amou can envy the relationship between Misumi and Yashiro and still respect and care about Yashiro.
Nanahara can see the yakuza as family, but still keep his loyalty to Yashiro −who is not properly in the organisation anymore.
Misumi can see Yashiro as his son/successor while also mistreating and objectifying him.
Tsunakawa can be suspicious of everyone and still envy those who receive devotion.
Doumeki can be madly in love with Yashiro while completely aware of the obsessive tone of his feelings.
Yashiro can sacrifice himself for Doumeki while also using this as an escape for facing his fear of change and acceptance.
The feelings and actions of characters can coexist. Even the contradictory ones.
The narrative in Saezuru is not meant to fall in a dichotomy of "green or red flag". That, in fact, would be a bad writing. This is a story very akin to reality where people are multifaceted just like that.
Thank you for saying this!
Saezuru spoilers chapter 66 messy thoughts:
Unpopular opinion? Or not? The thing that stood out to me, and I especially think the visuals emphasize this, is that Yashiro made the decision out of his own will. Yashiro's agency is apparent in this chapter, regardless of others' opinions and perspectives. He surrendered to his own feelings and Doumeki's out of his own accord.
Yashiro always ends up acting of his own will, and that's not the first time he chooses Doumeki in this timeskip. (More on that with a panel in a future post).
Just dropping a line to say that I'm planning to release chapter 66 later this month! What a great chapter, seriously an amazing way to end volume 10. 😭 It's scanned, I just need to clean it and typeset ^^
On a personal note, I had my baby! He's a happy baby boy and I've recovered from the c section well. ^^ Thank you to everyone who sent such lovely messages of encouragement. I enjoyed reading them while I was bed ridden after the surgery lol <333
Thank you for your patience while I work on the chapter <3
Something I don't know.
Klute/Twittering Birds
When you're use to being alone and somebody comes in and moves it around, you feel angry, so you want to hurt them. They are intruding pushing inside your comfort zone. This was a talk the character had with their psychiatrist. This was from the movie Klute ( 1971). It sort of rang with Yashiro and his dealing with Doumeki. Wanting to destroy a relationship because you don't understand the feelings it brings, it being different from your experience. They fought the intrusion at every turn. Going back to their ugly life to trying to push them away. But this guy stayed by their side. Taking care of them even at their ugliest moments. Not being in control was scary to the character. But ultimately they wondered if their lives were too different. She had been a prostitute and he a Detective. But we were left with a maybe.
So Doumeki knew he had to stay in Yashiro's world to have any chance of love. A normal life was something Yashiro didn't understand so how would that work with a Yakuza's life. So Doumeki understood he had to give up living a quote normal life if he loved Yashiro, and he did. I don't think he has any regrets.
It was a long Sunday afternoon watching old movies but it was fruitful.
We have all said so much and I love it the many who love them as much as I do. But there is one thing I want to add. Doumeki get him out of those wet clothes. We can't have Yashiro getting sick. I guess we will have to wait for that.😁 Can't wait for my copy to get here so I can hold it in my hands.
A parallel to chapter 25… I would be insufferable
🌧 Rain, wash away all my fears...
At last, Yashiro has surrendered to his feelings. If we recall, he has often been guarded against them, but now the rain falls upon him and washes everything away: his fears, his mistakes, and that self-destructive mindset that has prevented him from feeling worthy of being loved. Doumeki, with the help of his entire circle—Amou, Kamiya, Nanahara, even Kageyama—has achieved what we thought impossible: that Yashiro, for the first time, follows his heart and is happy. From my perspective, it doesn't matter if this happiness is brief, as long as he has found a little peace. I am truly happy for him and for my beloved Doumeki, who deserves this and more.
Spoiler Saezuru Chapter 66.
I've waited over 10 long years for this moment. I still can't believe it; Doumeki has finally fulfilled his dream, and I hope Yashiro finds some peace before the storm breaks. Are you ready? I hope you enjoy it too until the chapter is released in better quality.
💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
This feels so natural and right yet utterly impossible at the same time. I’m reminded of Yashiro’s stolen kiss from chapter 5 (yes, chapter 5!!).
There’s that curiosity, that what if. Crazy how Y was the first to show affection in this way and D still has no idea. This scene is so crazy when you put it in perspective.
gentlmen higuruma and nanami
Putting every interpretation of their interactions aside, and looking purely from a story perspective - what a great love between Doumeki and Yashiro.
Yashiro finding a man who was willing to do what it took to reach his heart despite allllll his attempts at rejection. A man willing to help truly change him for the better and show him that he deserves love. And that Doumeki is the one who wants to provide that safety. He pulled him out of the literal abyss guys, Yashiro only had a few years left before he succumbed I guarantee.
No one could have done this but Doumeki. I’m so happy Yashiro found his person, I really am.
Yeah so after the wedding bells ring i'm petitioning for @kayura452 to help Yoneda Kou with the side stories.
Saezuru & Timing (Ch.66)
When I tell you this story got a hold of me four years ago and I haven't let go since (10+ year veterans you have my greatest respect).
Yoneda Kou's timing with this series is utter perfection and highly strategic. The hiatus', time between chapters, this story having been ongoing for 10+ years, etc. It all lends to the emotional payoff of this story. I saw one spoiler from ch.66 and started to cry. In this media landscape, not much seems to move me. But Saezuru never fails to.
The timing of this series and the slow release genuinely gives us a better look into their world, the pain, indeicison and self denial, and of the reprucussions of living with that decision for years. It's too good guys.
Imagine reading this story as one of the bls you finish in a single night cause you just need have it - hell no. We would miss so much - I just.. ugh it's perfect. I wanna gush all day about her story telling and how she's enrolling the reader in it as well.
I have no one to talk to about this story irl, but I know the people in this community will understand how I feel right now!! Thank you all for your contributions to this community.
My best regards to Yoneda Kou and every single person who keeps this story alive.
Saezuru tori wa habatakanai Chapter 66 Spoilers:
Yoneda is absolutely unstoppable. We already have the new previews for the latest Saezuru chapter, which is drawing closer and closer to the climax of this final arc. This time, there are two specific details that caught my attention that I just couldn't leave unaddressed.
The Parallelism of the Snow
First of all, the cover image shows Doumeki and Yashiro under a snowfall—a clear parallel to the very beginning of Doumeki’s story within the Sakuraika group. It is snowing in the exact same way it did the day Amou handed him over to Tsunakawa. It seems this crucial part of the story, which began on a snowy day, is coming full circle and closing under the exact same weather.
Two Sides of the Same Coin
This brings me to the second preview image: Amou requests a meeting with Tsuna to apologize. While the surface-level reasons are clear, there is a much deeper history between these two characters.
Amou and Tsunakawa were university classmates, meaning they have known each other for many years. In the Saezuru universe, they represent two sides of the same coin:
Tsunakawa, on one hand, is a successor by inheritance.
Amou, on the other, is Misumi’s illegitimate son, who became a boss through pure meritocracy and power.
Consequently, even though they have only met a handful of times throughout the story, they show an incredibly close bond through the sheer weight of the favors they dare to ask of and grant each other.
Chapter 37 Chapter 66
Loyalty and Favors Within the Yakuza
Back in chapter 30, Amou asks Tsunakawa to talk to the other bosses so they won't accept Hirata into any Sakuraika subgroups, and Tsunakawa agrees. Their conversation is deeply fascinating because Tsunakawa questions whether it wouldn't be easier to just put out a formal notice that Hirata is exiled, ensuring no one takes him in. That’s when Tsunakawa talks about loyalty and drops a heavy line: "A man without a group is dead." Pushing someone to those extremes is no small decision.
Against all odds, many years later, Amou turns to Tsuna for help once again—this time to take in Doumeki. Going completely against his own convictions of not accepting the "leftovers" of other clans, Tsunakawa complies. This is exactly why Amou goes to apologize to him: he knows perfectly well that Tsunakawa made a massive exception solely out of that surreal friendship they share.
The Illusion of Freedom
Furthermore, I love how Yoneda always positions them in spaces that are simultaneously vast yet enclosed: golf courses and fishing ponds. These are artificial, man-made environments that, despite seeming immense, are completely fenced in. It captures the very essence of Saezuru: even if you feel free, the yakuza remains your prison. Perhaps that’s why they look for these specific settings for their private meetings; it grants them a subtle illusion of freedom that, due to the realities of the mafia world, can never truly be real.
I’m eagerly looking forward to the rest of the chapter. Thank you so much if you took the time to read through my ramblings about something that seems as simple as an apology between friends!
my dad (theatre critic and general expert) does this thing where he uses troll dolls and gumbys and other old toys to recreate famous plays i’ve never seen and then sends me pictures of it
a few more
Oh this is magnificent
In their world - tenderness like that doesn't come without cost. Doumeki had to believe he was facing his doom in order to say all that. That man definitley thinks he's about to die at this point.
“Did you seriously think I could be with someone other than you?”
Some of the letters are cut off so I’m guessing. Since it appears he’s saying “anata” I think this is Doumeki speaking. Unless it’s Yashiro being snippy. That would be a terrible face if that was the truth.
That being said… HIS FACE!!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
AND YASHIRO’S FACE!!!!
Ya'll don't understand this man has NEVER looked like this before...guuysssssss.
Yeah I couldn't help myself and read the spoilers anywayyy
IMAGINE THE WHIPLASH YASHIRO IS FEELING MY GOODNESS. This dude who just came back into his life who's just been stopping by to have sex with him left and right, suddenly protects him from a bullet (AGAIN), and then confesses that he's still in love with him - has been chasing him for that matter - all this time.
I know he feels like his head is about to explode - mine definitley would.
