So this was what it looked like when the other used her ability. It was quite impressive Erin noted, looking at the floor. The ice had vanished, leaving her with a new area to ‘practice’ her art. Maybe she’d even try out her magic without the limiter. But before that, she needed to know just what she could do in this field.

Huh, what was up with her and meeting the Duchess’ from the other Empires? First Lissandra and now Sera. Should she even bother with the formality or just be casual? Well, Sera had just seen Erin at her worse who why bother being formal? Oh wait, her upbringing tells her otherwise. “Erin Avalon, First Cleric of Elysium. A pleasure to meet you Lady Claramond.”

          Sera has briefly heard of others being able to control dimensional space, but each one was different. Personally she hasn’t seen it up close to see how different to compare, but hers has helped her reach her Duchess title, despite hers being limited. ◂

           ❝ Same goes to you, Cleric Erin. ❞ it was hard for Sera to use last names, the one exception was higher ups or other Duchesses such as herself. But she did respect Mrs. Avalon, as the other had perked her interest. Until she knows her a bit more, she will stick to her first name. ◂

           ❝ The Cleric title is unique to me. Do enlighten me with your abilities. I know some healing, as one of my family members had taught me, they had learned from a Cleric many years ago. Though every Cleric is different. Feel free to use the time that you have in here wisely. I may be a target for you, if you wish. ❞ Sera realized her formal side was showing, but she hoped the other understood where she was coming from. ◂

A dimension shifter? That kind of ability was extremely strong, regardless of the limits. For someone to so casually say this though, Erin pursed her lips in thought. It was basically a give and take deal; it helped them both, practicing their own abilities. That could work. For her to ‘practice’ somewhere else, yes … it would be safer there.

Though, to take some of this ice with them. She could easily make new ones in the dimension. That way, the newcomer wouldn’t strain herself too much. “We can but you don’t have to move any of the ice. I’ll get rid of it later.”

           ❝ Ah, that makes it easier, then. ❞ she closed her eyes for a moment and opened them again, allowing them to be placed into the dimensional field. It looked that of a hologram, almost unreal, but it was shifted space that they were able to stand in with her help. They could only travel so far, and Sera had to be within a certain radius if the girl wanted to stay. ◂

           ❝ I forgot to introduce myself. I am Sera Claramond, the Duchess of Lucae. What’s your name? ❞  espite having used energy already, she continued to stay calm as she could manage. She was not going to ruin this moment with her temper. ◂

          Sera was walking along the field, having done her daily tasks already, but there was one more thing she wanted to look into. She had already met the First Knight, and he was rather nice and obedient. Not that she cared if someone was obedient or not, but it did show the trust in others. She decided today she’d meet the Second Knight properly, only seeing them on occasion. ◂

           ❝ There you are. ❞ she walked up behind him when she found him, and waited to see how he’d react. She was known for her intimidating stares, which most of the time she wasn’t doing on purpose. She fiddled with her long blue hair while waiting to see if he’d respond to her. Now all she needed to do was come up with a task for him, and see if he was willing for the Duchess. ◂

♚-; Oh dear, now this was a situation she didn’t expect to be in… She recognized the mark of Clavain as well as her signature, however she knew for a fact she hadn’t been the one to send that letter. Whoever had sent the two letters though were surely watching them now. What would they gain from setting the two up though? Did they not think they would find out? Typically it was only one person from one kingdom they went after, not two people in the same positions but from different kingdoms; just what did this person want?

♚-; Keeping the card in her hand, she looked at the other, her smile never once faltering, for she didn’t want whoever set this up to become thrown off. “Indeed. Why don’t we make our way to your steed, shall we? She’s quite a beauty, I must say.” She wasn’t aware of how close they were; could they hear the two even if they whispered? Not taking a chance, Lissandra did her best to play off the whole ordeal. Luckily, she was a very skilled liar, and so all seemed normal.

          Sera wanted to use her telepathy to communicate with the other, but there was also the chance that the person who set them up knew how to read minds. They most likely knew about both their abilities, otherwise they wouldn’t have been smart enough to bring them together in the first place. They were both Duchesses’ after all, and hopefully this situation won’t be starting a war. ◂

           ❝ Yes. We may discuss while we ride on her. ❞ if her horse was still there, that is. This person couldn’t be as stupid as to mess with Sera’s horse. That horse had a willpower of her own, able to throw quite the kick if it wanted to. There was a reason why she chose the name Excalibur, after all. The famous weapon that was told in stories is known as the strongest. ◂

           ❝ Try not to move quickly around her. ❞ she started walking and leading the way to where her horse was resting. This person most likely had a horse as well, since they must’ve known Sera would come here by horse. That was only an assumption.

           ❝ Is everything fine in Clavain? ❞ Sera decided casual talk would be best (if this was considered casual) for this situation. If only her First Knight was nearby. ◂

This was beautiful? This mess of ice, this inability to fully control her ice was beautiful? What a joke – and enough out of you. Enough, get out. Erin shook her head once again, trying to physically get rid of the dark thoughts and stared at the hand in confusion. She didn’t know what to do with it for a few seconds before her mind caught up to her, a hand reaching out hesitantly before gripping it. “I-I …”

Keep practicing? It would benefit her sure but given the state of the forest, it probably wasn’t a good idea to continue here. But help though … how could the other help her? Did she have a gift she could use? “Um, may I ask how you’d help?” She still hasn’t decided whether or not she’d continue her ‘practice’ but she was curious.

          ❝ I have the ability to shift the dimension. I can easily move the ice from where it originally was into space. ❞ she explained calmly and helped her up when the hand was taken. Her ability was hard for her to use, as it took up a lot of what people would call mana or energy. She was shifting the dimension, after all. ◂

          ❝ In turn, you will also be benefiting me. I need to practice using this ability longer. Truthfully, you will have a time limit with your practice session. It is up to you if you want to or not. ❞ while she explained, she continued to examine all of the ice. She wouldn’t be able to take all of it away, only a small portion if she wanted. It was a shame such an ability was limited. ◂

♞-; Oh dear, one of his first ‘real missions’ from the Duchess. Orion was aware of how much she loved her steed, but truth be told, he wasn’t really expecting all of… this.

♞-; “T-There’s no need for payment, Your Grace; I’m the First Knight of Hartion and you are its Duchess, it is payment enough that I assist in easing your worries….” He’s unnaturally formal when speaking to her for two reasons: one, she was the Duchess for goodness sake, and two, she seemed rather serious about this ‘mission’ of his. It’d be embarrassing if he failed in front of her, but perhaps this was just the chance he needed to prove his skills–to prove that he deserved the title of First Knight.

♞-; “Understood, Your Grace, and, er, they went this way…” Pointing to the north east, he was a bit afraid to point out that she had walked the complete opposite direction given her current attitude, but he decided it best to comply with her.

♞-; “I’ll have to make haste if I wish to reach the criminal, so apologies if I leave you behind, Your Grace.” He had never witnessed the Duchess in action–hell, he barely even knew of her abilities, and so he hoped his words didn’t insult her. As soon as they were said though, he steadied his grip on the earth, the ground cracking beneath his foot before he sprinted off into the forest, gone in the blink of an eye.

          The boy was nervous; perhaps it was a good sign that she was doing her job right. Or maybe she was being too intimidating? But she did listen to his words, and he seemed honored           to be taking the job (although, she could probably handle it on her own with enough evidence, which he gave, minus not knowing where the thief went to). At least her anger was coming to a calm, now that they had a lead. When people stole horses, they normally used it to escape faster, not kill them. It meant less of a chance of her horse falling. ◂

          When he pointed his finger, she tried her best not to look annoyed, but it was starting to show more than she planned. At least the First Knight was not afraid to leave his Duchess behind, where as a Pawn most likely would. They seemed to know how to act quickly, even if they were nervous. The First Knight ran in the blink of an eye, his speed seemed top notch. Watching him go, she simply ran after at her own pace to catch up. With her Knight’s help, she was not worried. ◂

           「 I will be right behind to assist you. 」 her thoughts ran through his mind, her telepathy ability active. She can order him this way if she needed, and he could respond back if he wanted. Only problem was, she may not hear him clearly. It was a rather handy skill, especially if a raid were to happen. ◂

「 Do not get behind Excalibur if you can help it. The horse can kick. 」

{ ♠ } Idiot. 

       It was bad enough that Hugo had decided to pick a fight he clearly couldn’t win. It was even worse that he chose to push himself to exhaustion to hold off this enemy in an empire that he wasn’t on good standing ground with. But of course, the infamous First Sentinel of Melantia couldn’t help himself, could he? 

      To add insult to injury, he had dragged his beaten, battered body in the hopes of escape, only to stand before another stranger; obviously Lucae, obviously going to take advantage of his current weakness. This woman didn’t look to be one of the lower-class pawns, either. With a huff, Hugo propped himself on Rinnea and stopped, head bowed in a rare gesture of forfeit.

      “Please.” God, he hated using that word. “Mercy. I’m not here as your enemy.”

          Sera stared at his face long enough to make sure this man wasn’t lying. She knew someone was trespassing, and why they were she did not know. The Melantian was weak and battered. She could heal him if she wanted to, but her healing wasn’t the strongest; it’d end up leaving scars all over his body. ◂

           ❝ I am not certain how you got into this position, but before you even reach Melantia, you will pass out. I recommend resting for the night. ❞ she did have her scimitars on her, and wasn’t afraid to pull them out if she had to, but this man was practically begging. Hopefully his begging was not an act. If it was, she’d have to use her ability and act quickly. ◂

           ❝ Now then, I will escort you to where I’m camping. You can explain yourself there or along the way. Or are you going to stay in that position all day? ❞ she turned her head away. If he wasn’t all bloodied, she wouldn’t have looked like she was about ready to attack him first encounter. Whatever was attacking him must be close by, since the wounds look fresh. They had to hurry if he wanted out of this alive. ◂

( He did not ask for a trip to Hartion. It was Maria, his sister and Lucae’s First Bishop, who made him her bodyguard during this journey. A Melantian guarding a Lucean, oh the irony. When they arrived, he was left in the hallway, just like one leaves their dog to guard the backyard. Maverick disappeared in the meeting room a long time ago. )

Hearing the voice, he glances briefly to the side and seeing that its source is no harm, returns to his ‘work’. “Ah, that?” There is a simple piece of flower arrangement standing before him on the table. Red, rose and white blossoms give it a color while few green leafs add a contrasting accent. ( He snatched the flowers from the vases standing along the windowsill. They already started to wilt anyway. ) It made for an impressive little work of art for a demoted soldier.

“You could say so—” ( One of the matrons from Clavain offered to pay with ikebana course for his errand boy services. He could not find a better way to kill his boredom. ) “ —lady Duchess of Hartion.”

Although she had her arms crossed and she was trying her best to not point fingers at him, she twitched slightly. She knew he was Melantian and probably had no right to mess with the arrangement in the first place, almost wilted or not. Flowers were expensive, even if they only lasted so long, they did add more flare to this building that she considered too plain. ◂

❝ I’ll admit. The colors put together make a good contrast. But there is a thing called asking. ❞ not that she completely cared, as what he did was completely harmless, and the property was still inside the building. ◂

❝ Since you spent all that time waiting, you may keep the flowers, if you wish. The vase will have to stay, though. They were going to cut those flowers tonight anyway. ❞ she shrugged slightly, somehow managing to hold in her temper around him (so far). If he did anything else stupid, she might just lose it. ◂

“Since you have nothing better to do while you wait, I can give you something to do. It won’t be far off. ❞ she simply offered him. If he was a Lucaen, it’d be another story, but he was part of Melantia. ◂

          {♠} —; “Ufufufu … we’re so high up! I wonder if Crimson can see me … he should be the one up here, shining down on everyone below! That’s fine, I’ll shine in his place for now!” he grins, wearing his For the Emperor! t-shirt and tearing at the grass to spell out Crimson’s name. When he hears the other arriving he bounces up, quickly looking over.

          {♠} —; “Haha—yes! Finally, you’re here!” he takes off the giant backpack he’s carrying, unpacking the numerous amounts of dolls and plushes he stuffed into it. All of them have seen their fair share of wear and tear, however they were all stitched together perfectly. He truly cared for them.

          {♠} —; “To fight with you is an honor, madam! However I’m going to have to do my best, so sorry if I hurt you alright?! Let’s both do our best!” he raises his arm, throwing his dolls in the air and pulling his strings to wake them up, each now moving as if independent from him. “Ah lovely, lovely! They’re all awake even at this high altitude. How are you fairing, you can breathe up here right? I know it’s high up, even I’m having a little bit of a hard time breathing—and I have good lungs!”

            His voice was loud, she could already hear him on her way over. She could already guess what he looked right, and her guess was pretty accurate when she got close enough. At least this guy had a good choice of ears, otherwise she could’ve rung his neck right then and there. The battle was already announced, and there was no forfeiting this round. She only got this far because her last match was quite lucky, but even if her opponent didn’t forfeit she had the feeling she would’ve won anyway. Some people did find her intimidating, which she didn’t understand why, but it helped on occasion. ◂

            How he managed to get here before she did was quite the mystery. The Duchess was known to show up on time, and even before the time was announced—but of course, this place wasn’t authorized until the given time, so that option was out of the question. She stayed silent and watched him. So far, Sera has memorized quite a bit about Melantian’s, as they were a neighboring nation, while she knew very little about the mysterious Elysium. She hasn’t seen this man’s work in action, though. ◂

             ❝ You’re rather lively. ❞ if she was lucky, she could read his mind to dodge his next move, but she has no control over said ability yet. Right now, she will have to take guesses and try to get close to him, as it seems he’s a ranged fighter. ◂

             ❝ You’ll run out of breath if you keep talking up here. ❞ she spoke calmly and started to pin her long hair up into a bun, looking quite different from before. ◂

             ❝ But nonetheless, it is a pleasure to meet you, First Commander. Should I call you Minh? You’re welcome to call me Sera. No need to be formal toward me. ❞ if he were part of Lucae, the situation would be different. Once done with her hair, she waited. ◂

             ❝ If I didn’t get hurt, then I’ll be disappointed in Spadia’s Commander. I’ll allow you to strike first. ❞ ◂

There were times when Erin couldn’t control her Winter abilities even with the seal on her. Certain dates that pulled the blonde to the darker parts of her mind were the main cause of this phenomena. It caused so many problems for those around her, hence why Erin had found a place where she could be alone, where her powers could go out of control without harming another - or so she thought. She hadn’t anticipated someone finding her, curled up under a tree, ice quite literally everywhere.

Her green eyes slowly opened, frost clinging to her eyelashes before she brushed them off. For someone to see her when she was like this, how embarrassing. Composure, quickly, she needs to compose herself. “Ah? Y-Yes, it was I who…created the ice.” Created sounded wrong, she didn’t want to make the ice. “And you weren’t disturbing anything…”

           The ‘creator’ of ice seemed to be trying hard to keep her composure. They were out this far for a reason, it would seem, but Sera didn’t want to assume right away. Instead, she glanced around at all the ice around the two in awe. She had no power with such the element, and so far knew no one that could create a miraculous piece of art. ◂

            ❝ It’s very beautiful. There is a lot you could do with such an ability. ❞ she looked at the other and offered them a hand, wondering if she would take the courtesy. ◂              ❝ Would you like to keep practicing? I could try to help. ❞ her own ability could lock them in a dimensional space, which would allow her to freely cast her ice if she so pleased. Sera also used to have problems with her own ability way back when, but now she was starting to learn how to control it, which was one of the reasons she became the Duchess. ◂

      The voice in their head made the teen sit up from hanging off a lamp post. Dropping to the ground, they look around for a few moments. The same voice spoke out again, and Marbh tilted their head as they thought of where the gate was. Hands reach under their baggy shirt (which is used more as a cloak since it seems to eat them) to grab their mask. Pulling it over their face, the teen sprints off in that general direction. 

     How odd this was to Marbh, for they knew they were disconnected from everyone else’s reality, but this was too far. Approaching a figured seemingly hovering over something, they slow down to stand a good distance away, quick to grab a dagger. “ You … rang?  “

The Duchess immediately looked over soon as the voice rang in her ears. They seemed cautious, but it was no surprise to her, since she did randomly invite them over. But perhaps they’d know who could save this dying animal, and if it couldn’t be helped then they’d have to put it out of its misery. Sera did not want to be the one to do that. ◂

❝ Do you know anyone with strong healing powers?❞ she tilted her head toward the dog as she spoke, hoping the younger boy was willing to help and not here for a fight. ◂

❝ My healing is not enough to help it. ❞ she tried her best to stay calm and not make the boy feel startled like she would with most people. It was hard to see their expression behind the mask, but Sera did not seem worried. ◂

♚-; Lissandra had always wanted to speak more with the other Duchess–perhaps they had more in common than they thought, but as soon as the meetings were over, the other was quick to leave. ‘How dutiful’ she always thought to herself, a smirk playing at her lips.

♚-; It was odd though, she never thought that she would be the one called out to; if anything, it would’ve been the other way around. Hartion’s Duchess didn’t seem to have much of an interest in her.–she still didn’t believe that to be the case though, and so perhaps this was just another 'business meeting’ of sorts. Troublesome as they were, they came with the title, but she couldn’t help but wonder what happened that would only require the two Duchesses to come together.

♚-; Smiling as the other came into view, Lissandra gave the other a quick curtsy. “Lady Sera,” she said. Holding up the letter that had been addressed to her she questioned the other. “I’ve been meaning to speak with you, but I never thought that you would be the one to address me first; to what do I owe this pleasure?”

           ❝ …Address you first? ❞ Sera was baffled, and looked at the letter that Lissandra was holding. It looked different from the one she had; the mark of Hartion, and it also obtained Sera’s signature color—blue. She kept the card lifted up in the other’s view, to show that it had the mark of Clavain. ◂

           ❝ Miss Riviere, I am sorry to say… ❞ she started, taking a small pause to hold her breath and examine the area around them. She knew what this was, and it was not a good sign for the two Duchesses’. They had to get out of here soon. Her horse, Excalibur, was resting a walking distance away. They could escape if they managed to reach her steed on time. Excalibur wasn’t always pleased with others riding her back, but that was alright. This was now an emergency, one that they’d have to deal with without the help of pawns. ◂

           ❝ It appears there has been a mistake. We may want to start walking together. ❞ she took the letter and placed it in her sleeve for now, not wanting to make the wrong move in case the person that set this up was watching them. She didn’t want to show a sign of nervousness, and hopefully the other would do the same and not act rashly. ◂
