For the Letsdrawsherlock :)
I didn’t want to overlap others who’ve already drawn J. C. Leyendecker’s famous paintings so I hope people don’t mind me drawing something that’s not as ‘famous’. ;v; I also made John wear a sailor suit instead of a dress hehe;;
someone please take my tablet away ;;A;;
@holmesianpose !!!

John the cactus, damaged but adorable. Prickly. Keeps a gun in his desk drawer. Has a blog. Is best friends w a small succulent named Sherlock.
@bbcbluebell for your drawing inspiration
consulting cacti omg
@flaneurinthecity -- see, your lovely drawings of succulents could pretty easily turn into fanart, too?! (add one blue scarf under the leaves, and...voilà ; )

There are some GREAT people on this website and I love them. Not naming any names
re. red velvet
I got some very nice feedback on the recent post with the “Equinox” portrait of Alexander Nussbaum and in response to a messaging chat I’m posting some WIP pics about glaze paints.
That red was achieved by underpainting the curtain in caput mortuum and cadmium orange (Masterclass), and going over it in a very thinly applied layer of Madder Rose Light (Van Gogh, Royal Talens). It glows IRL like velvet, and I’d never have come up with that idea (of glaze painting red) on my own.
The silk damask was underpainted turquoise and pewter grey, and then glazed in transparent umber green (Rembrandt, Royal Talens) to “stain” it a more neutral color that would set off Alex’s blue clothes by kindly receding. Naples yellow highlights were added to the design, later. It’s not finished, but looks like this now:
Glaze paints rock.

“Postmodern Loneliness” - Pencil, ink & watercolor art by Idalia Candelas. From the artist: “I like to show women who exist in solitude but do not suffer. They are not depressed or crying. Rather [they] are safe, exalting in the sense of enjoying the company of just herself.”
Being alone does not necessarily mean being lonely.

Fic rec like whoa: An original and imaginative premise, beautiful clean prose and characterizations, astute character insight – this story just has everything going for it. The author’s new to the fandom, I believe, and has barely any hits/kudos/comments but deserves so much more attention. It’s a WiP, which of course has such potential for disappointment, but … damn.
I did not have time to start reading it yet (still in the Edinburgh Problem <333) but signal boosting !
