Please pray. My mom had surgery on a torn meniscus and she had a stroke. She’s in emergency surgery now and I’m on my way to the hospital

Update; sounds like the blockage was successfully removed, they just won’t know if she’ll have lasting brain damage symptoms until she wakes up.

Please keep my brother specifically in your prayers too. He didn’t know he was her emergency contact, and it was quite a shock to get called and told that she had a stroke, and to be asked if it was alright to do the emergency surgery. We’re all struggling emotionally, but especially him. He’s very sensitive and compassionate, and like I said, I think he was shocked the most

ok I know that the following doesn’t really fit with the content of my blog but I am hoping someone can help me out with some answers.

perhaps someone with more knowledge of aquinas and the summa can help me out with this but:

does st thomas aquinas really say in the summa that masturbation (and sins against nature, etc) are worse than rape?

don’t really know how to square this circle. any help appreciated thanks

Within Aquinas' classification of sexual sins, masturbation is more "against nature" than rape because of how it frustrates the natural end of sex. But rape includes an additional grave injustice against another person, making it a more morally complex and more grievous evil overall.

So he isn't saying that the sins against nature are worse than rape, but rather that rape is less of a sin against lust than masturbation and other examples are because it doesn't frustrate the procreative aspect of sex. In the article he is evaluating the sins in regard to how they violate natural law, not which act is the most evil in every way. The additional moral evil of rape comes from its attack on justice. Aquinas discusses rape under the virtue of justice as well as under chastity, because it is both a sexual sin and a violent wrong against another person.

Padre Pio was forbidden from saying public Mass and hearing confessions. I seem to remember Catherine of Siena was told she couldn’t receive the Eucharist daily because her ecstasies were distracting. and these prohibitions were unjust—and in the case of Padre Pio, prevented him from ministering to people whom he might have helped—but they obeyed!! because they believed humble submission to the will of God in and through the authority of His Church was more important than fighting to be seen as right. they were vindicated by history, and if they weren't, they still would have been vindicated at the Last Judgment. but it was still right that they be obedient.

I had to take one of my babies to the vet this morning for an emergency low blood sugar and dehydration, possibly due to a tumor. please pray for a fast and full recovery and that if she passes she will be comfortable and peaceful as I will not be able to be there with her.
