Does anyone know any tips for recovering from surgery? I broke my ankle and displaced it a significant amount, and I just had surgery to realign the bones and put hardware in for support. Now I can’t walk and I’m supposed to be sitting down or laying down unless I have to use the bathroom. I’m essentially stuck in my bed until my appointment to take off the splint and put on a boot, and I’m going stir-crazy. All I’ve done for the past 4 days is play games, watch shows, and sleep. Every day feels the same and now I hate staying in bed. I get bored doing the same things every day, and I can’t get up to do anything or go anywhere. I feel gross because I have to have help to shower so I can’t do it as regularly as I would like. Does anyone know what to do to make the bored feeling go away or to entertain myself in a healthy way?

Update: I’m doing okay now! The surgery took a bit longer than expected and I made it through the pre-op procedure with minimal pain. I had to get calming medicines through an IV and usually I’m very scared of needles. However, I managed to get it put in with only a little bit of crying and no hyperventilating this time. I had to wait about an hour and a half in the pre-op room before I met with an anesthesiologist. I’ve only ever had local anesthesia, so I told him I was anxious about being put to sleep. However, they did their best to assure me and make me feel better. They let me hold my cord rosary during the operation by some miracle, and while I was waiting for my surgery I said a couple decades and asked Mary to stay by my side with her Son. I don’t remember anything after being strapped to the operating bed in the surgery room, and after that I woke up by myself in recovery while a nurse was checking my vitals. Several family members said rosaries for me today, and I’m extremely grateful for all the prayers from all of you as well. Staying close to Jesus and asking him to be by my side is really the only reason I was able to stay stable during the pre-op procedure- in any other emergency hospital situation, I would be crying, in hysterics, and afraid of everything around me. If anyone was curious about my operation, I broke my ankle on this past Sunday while doing household chores by falling on it with my entire body weight. I ended up breaking my fibula and the force of the falling impact pushed my tibia out of place and dislocated the bone as well as damaging important ligaments. So they had to put hardware in to get everything back into alignment- a minor surgery but still terrifying for me because it was my first surgery ever. I’m so glad that I brought my rosary with me and I’m grateful to everyone who prayed for me- it genuinely helped me control my fear and get through the procedure with minimal stress or pain. I’m slowly recovering at home right now, and my anesthesia is slowly wearing off. I’m on pretty strong pain medication and I had to go on medical leave of absence from my work because I have to recover and I can’t stand up by myself right now. I’m going to continue to pray for a good recovery, and if you can, please keep me in your prayers too. This has been hard on my family because I need near-constant supervision to do pretty much anything and my medication schedule is hectic as well. Please keep me in the back of your mind when you say prayers, especially to the Blessed Mother. She’s my patron saint and thoughts of her really comfort me. Thank you all so much for your concern and your prayers, you really helped me. ♡

Catholic Facts that would give a non-Catholic a heart attack ✨

Why wearing a Rosary as a necklace is wrong

I’ve seen a lot of people recently that are wearing rosaries on their neck like a necklace, and I’m going to explain why that’s not the proper use for it. The Rosary is what we call a sacramental: “sacred signs by which effects, especially spiritual effects, are signified in some imitation of the sacraments and are obtained through the intercession of the Church” (Catholic Answers).

In simpler words, a rosary as a sacramental is a tool we use specifically for prayer and is an object that has special and sacred meaning.

The reason why we do not wear it as jewelry or specifically around the neck to adorn ourselves is that it serves ONE purpose and one purpose only: to be used as a tool for prayer. By wearing it as an accessory, you cheapen the meaning behind it even without meaning to. Many young Catholics don’t know this, and they wear the Rosary as jewelry thinking it’s harmless. However, it’s important that we address this to make sure our rosaries are being used for their intended purpose, which is to be used in prayer to ask the Blessed Mother for intercession.

Being a young Catholic woman, some of you will genuinely never understand how much it hurts my heart to hear people disrespect Mary. I get a lot of comments and DMs from Protestants or people of other religions that say genuinely awful things about her. (not saying ALL protestants or people of other faiths do this, there are a lot of you out there who are genuinely respectful and I love you for that! ♡)

They’ll say that we worship her, that having statues and shrines for her is idolatry, that praying to her is necromancy, that she’s a sinner, that she’s worthless in the eyes of God.

I want to cry every time I see such words.

It amazes me that even though we all believe in the same God, there are some that will turn and attack their own brothers and sisters with cruel words or mock the Blessed Mother.

My take on the debate “is it a sin to kiss your girlfriend before marriage"

I’ve seen videos on this topic from a LOT of Catholic creators on the Internet, and some of these takes are not rooted in reality.

Respectfully, this debate is a little silly.

I’ve always been a big believer in going to talk to your priest about moral dilemmas, especially with questions you have about your personal relationships as they pertain to God. However, there are a few instances of this subject being discussed among Vatican-approved documents and texts. (if you’re interested in what those are, Aubrey Corrigan (aubrey.corrigan) has a really insightful video on the subject posted to her Instagram.

All of these documents say the same thing essentially-

It is *not* a sin to kiss your girlfriend before marriage.

A kiss between two people who are in a relationship (provided it is a heterosexual pairing) is simply meant to be an expression of romantic affection, and that is encouraged. However, the line is drawn when you are using a kiss to provoke a lustful reaction in yourself or in your partner. Arousal in and of itself is not a sin, nor is having feelings of arousal, but indulging in that feeling or deliberately provoking it without attempting to suppress it *is* a sin. Arousal is simply your body’s reaction to external stimuli, and sometimes a kiss can do that even though it is a simple gesture of affection.

The bottom line here is that yes, you can kiss your girlfriend without worrying that you are putting your morality on the line. However, you should not be using that expression of affection deliberately to provoke lustful thoughts. If Jesus walked in on you and you would be ashamed at what he saw, you probably should avoid it.

Prayer Request

A friend of mine who doesn’t have a platform or anything has asked me to broadcast her prayer request in hopes that her situation improves. She’s a 20-year-old who still lives at home with her parents because she can’t afford to move out, and her mother is verbally abusive and narcissistic.

She’s suffering from extreme anxiety and fluctuating levels of depression because she feels as if her mother has made it impossible for her to be independent- she can’t drive, she has a minimum wage customer service job, her mother constantly criticizes and berates her, and she doesn’t have that many other friends in the area who can support her.

She needs as many prayers as possible, if you would be so kind as to pray for her we would be so thankful!

I believe that our job as God’s faithful is to defend him and advocate for his truth in a profound and loving way. Catholicism isn’t about hurting feelings, it’s about loving everyone regardless of what they believe! I think that if all of us extend the same grace to other faiths that we do to different walks of life that the world would be genuinely so much better. If we actually had discussions about our similarities to different faiths instead of nitpicking at differences, they would be more open to what we have to say about the truth.
