(This has been saved in my drafts for several months, but you know how it is.)
(TW: Torture, mentions of torture, threats.)
"Minos? What is he talking about?"
"Nothing." Minos muttered. "Nothing at all."
"Shut up Eris." How did he know? How did he-
"Devo thinks I'm an idiot. Which, fair. But you win some, you lose some."
"I don't think you understand the position you're in right now, Accuri." Eris said quietly. "We have the two things you need to win this war."
Accuri laughed, a cold, menacing sound.
"I don't think you understand the position you're in, Eris. I could kill all three of you now, no sweat."
Accuri grinned, and raised a hand. Pain exploded across Minos's face.
Blood trickled down Minos's face, and he stumbled back.
"How?" He croaked. "How did you-"
"Oh, it's simple really. I just took a fraction of that power, and combined it with my own limited ability. It was honestly kind of enjoyable."
"That ability has been lost for…" Eris trailed off.
"Three years, two months, and six days." Accuri finished for him. "I'm just as aware as you are"
Lily glanced between the three of them, fists clenched. "Are we not fighting? What's happening?"
"What's happening is that Minos and Eris are just now realizing the gravity of this situation."
"What I want should be very obvious by now."
"Ultimate power, yeah, we get that-"
"No. I just want what was rightfully mine. The knife."
"That can't be it," Lily challenged. "I know people like you, and they always want more. So what else do you want?"
"Well, I also want you to surrender. I want my brother back. I want to bring in a quarter of your people for lawful execution. I want a lot of things, Ms. Spectere. Most of all, I just want back what I had long ago. I had power. I had my family. That's all I need."
"Okay, no," Eris growled. "The knife, fine. I could care less about that piece of junk, it's not like there's much you can do with it right now-"
"Eris, he could kill all of the Godlings. He could kill the gods. He could even kill sources. He can bring Ghosts back from the dead, potentially killing their hosts. Make even more Phantoms-"
"Yeah, but it is not like he has a reason to."
"Eris, this whole thing was a revenge trip. From the beginning," Minos said, turning to the Godling. "You're going to bring back Tanner. Then kill Orem."
"Yes. I'll bring back Horus too, of course."
"So it's true. You never killed her." Accuri narrowed his eyes and sighed.
"No. Why would I kill such a useful asset? Not to mention one of the most powerful mortals still alive. Who wouldn't want to control that?"
"Yes, Minos, I mean control. I have no need to kill anybody."
"How do you intend on doing that then?" he challenged.
"Attachments are interesting things, don't you think?" Accuri mused.
“Devo doesn’t care.” Minos snapped, impatient.
The man laughed. “But you do.”
Minos said nothing, hands clenched, mind racing.
Eris glanced between the two, sighed, and returned his gaze to Accuri. “Please tell me you’re not doing this, because that’s a really, really bad play, Accuri. As in, bad for everyone in this dimension, type bad.”
“I don’t see why. It would be. Unless you mean I’ll win-”
“I mean everybody is going to die,” he said flatly. “Because you decided to play with fire.”
Lily scowled, looking confused. “What the hell are you talking about?”
“He knows, he’s just in denial. Doesn’t want to admit that he messed up. Badly.”
Accuri stayed quiet, and Minos’s head started burning. It wasn’t pain, no, this was worse. Somebody was about to die, he just couldn’t decide who yet.
It didn’t really matter, did it?
“So you decided it would be a good idea to come here, of all places, to antagonize me, and then proceed to do so further by threatening one of the very few things I care about right now. Great idea. Brilliant.” Eris and Lily both took a step back, eyes wide. “Accuri, who the hell do you think you are? The most powerful mortal in this universe? Well you’re wrong.”
“Minos,” Accuri said hesitantly. “I don’t think you know what you’re doing.”
“Don’t I? After all this time, you’d think I’d get a little respect, but no. I might be a short, idiotic teenager, but I’m a very powerful one, and people always seem to forget that I can drive them insane with little to no effort. Hell, I do it by accident sometimes! People always forget that until they piss me off. So congratulations! I can’t kill you. But I will torture you in your own personal hell until you tell me what I want to know. Sound familiar?”
“How do you-?” And for the first time in his, admittedly short, life, Accuri was absolutely terrified.
The man fell to the ground, clutching his head and started screeching. Minos smiled.
He turned to the pair behind him, probably looking completely insane, but it was a very stressful day and he was tired of caring. “So what do we do with him.”
“Uhh…” Lily trailed off. “You said you had questions?”
Minos waved dismissively. “Oh that’s already been taken care of. He’ll probably break at some point.”
“That’s what I’m asking y’all?”
Eris shook himself, blinking a few times. “Okay. I would say take him back to Devo, but he’d just kill him, and if you’re trying to get information out of him, the best thing we can probably do is restrain him and keep an eye on him here.”
“It might take a while,” Minos warned. “And what would we even- Oh. Right. Yeah, okay.”
“I’ll grab the rope!” Lily said cheerfully, digging around the dust covered piles of torture equipment and restraints. “Ooh, can we use the barbed wire?”
“I don’t see why not.” A few minutes and some heavy lifting later, Accuri was secured to the chair in the center of the room, with a combination of heavy metal and barbed wire.
“You guys should report back to Devo. I’ll keep an eye on him,” Minos said firmly. “I’ll find what I need, let you guys know, and head out.”
“Sounds like a terrible idea. You’re going to get yourself killed.”
“Oh, yeah, definitely,” Eris agreed
“I’m not going to get myself killed!”
“What’re you doing this for anyways?” Lily asked curiously. Eris and Minos exchanged glances.
Eris sighed. “Friend of ours disappeared a few years back. Turns out, she was taken by Accuri and presumably is currently being held god knows where.”
“Not really,” Minos muttered.”She was one of Devo’s old friends though. So you might know her.”
Lily immediately made a face, like she was eating something sour. “Seriously? You have got to be kidding me. She is literally the worst person I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with.”
“Sometimes yeah,” Eris admitted. “But I’m obligated to put up with her because of Minos, so…”
“You act like I’m not obligated to put up with her too,” Minos muttered under his breath.
“That’s not the only reason and you know it.”
“The only other reason is that according to both of you, I'm incredibly self destructive and shouldn't be left alone for more than 5 minutes at a time’.”
“And so you’re going on a suicide mission to save her?”
“Liar. And I quote, she’s ‘one of the very few things you care about right now’. WHich I am absolutely telling her by the way.”
“Don’t. I will get laughed at for the rest of my days.”
“Yes. Yes you will.” All three of them froze at the familiar voice. “Honestly, I’m kind of impressed. Kinda concerned too.”
Minos let out a bitter laugh. “Seriously?”
Nero grinned. “What can I say? I enjoy being overly dramatic.”
Lily groaned. “Oh you have got to be kidding me. WHy do I even bother?”
“You look terrible,” Eris commented.
“I was just tortured for a good 13 percent of my life.”
“How did you do that math that fast- Never mind, I don’t want to know.”
“Probably best if you don’t ask that, yeah. So. Who all has gotten themselves killed out of sheer stupidity?”
“Nobody, as far as I know. Couple of people got turned, but nobody you know.”
“I was better until you showed up.”
“Love you too. And Accuri?”
“He’ll wake up in a few hours.”
“For now. So how long have you been out?”
“A few months. I’ve just kinda been lurking, finding some intel. Piecing some stuff together. You know the drill.”
“So you’re the person who told Devo about today.”
“I tried to make it obvious.”
