Intrinsick Mag
Launching November 1, 2015 ā Intrinsick Mag INTRINSICK MAGās goal is to publish one memorable story per week beginning sometime in November 2015, or whenever we can collect enough quality submissions to ensure our unpredictable standards of quality can be upheld.Ā Our style is humorous, quirky, unusual, unbecoming, uncomfortable, or, best case scenario, a misguided hybrid of all these. Genre isā¦

My father wasĀ so damned specific about where and how he wanted his ashes spread, but it wasnāt just one location. As he wrote in his will: āallow equal measure of myĀ ashes released to the winds,Ā atĀ tenĀ of myĀ most favored spots in the universe.ā Ā This included a list of ten places, mostĀ of which he hadĀ never evenĀ visited himself.Ā Iām not sure why I felt so compelled to complete thisĀ ridiculousā¦

She had big aspirationsĀ in regards to books. There were so many books she wanted to read, but the problem was not enough time to read them. Even if it was her full time job to just read books, like someone decided to give her a generous salary and health insurance and a 401K just to read, there would never be enough time. Even if she never slept or ate, and spent every second of every dayā¦

It started the moment he learned how toĀ walk. Off he went in whatever direction he happened to be pointing, wearing nothing but diapers and a smile, and sometimes not evenĀ the diapers. It made no difference where he was going, just so long as he was going somewhere. Had his parents not startedĀ keepingĀ him tethered on a modified leash he surely would have wandered away and ended up kidnapped orā¦

It starts with picking just the right one. So many to choose from. Not too green; it shouldnāt be crunchy. Too brown and itāsĀ Ā mushy andĀ hard to swallow. Itās a texture thing. Itās got to be just right.
Then comes the peeling. Start at the stem and work your way down. No need to rush here. Take your time. Relish this common but extraordinary moment. Sometimes it seems like magic. When youāre doneā¦

Lost in Translation

My wifeĀ told me that she thought each word could probably be its own story. So I decided to try to write aā¦

Where Profanity ComesĀ From
My mom taught me a couple new swear words this morning on the way to school.Ā Traffic was bad. I canāt tell you what they were without getting in trouble, but trust me when I say they were both creative and breathtaking.
Sometimes I wonder where those wordsĀ come from. What happened to her?

The Countdown
Ā Asteroids by Nicholas Wilson
Scientists had first observed the asteroid months ago, but most people didnāt comprehend the magnitude of the consequences. For the first few months after the discovery people suspected some sort of impossible scientific conspiracy, like the big bang, the Higgs Boson, or global warming. Many researchers and pundits were accused of conspiratorial motivationsā¦

Refraction refers to the bending of a wave when it changes its medium of transmission. This bending can result in separation, compression, distortion, and differing levels of visibility. It can make small things seem bigger and far off things seem closer. It can delight the senses or confuse the mind. Even though there may be a simple scientific explanation that doesnāt mean it has to make sense.
In fact scientists are now developing simple lenses that are effectively bending light so far as to make objects seem invisible. Yet more proof that we may not always be able to see everything that is in front of us.
